RE: Backported drivers

2013-06-14 Thread Bandi,Sarveshwar
Ben,
I have decided pushing new hardware support to stable branch. Given the
dependencies of the patches on intermediate wants I don’t want to take the risk
of regressing. If there are any other criticial patches I will certainly push
them into stable.
As for 3.9, while new hardware support was available certain critical patches
in relation to that went in after 3.9 cut was made. I will open bug again
3.9.5-1 and submit these patches

Thanks,
Sarvesh

Critical bug fixes should be submitted for inclusion in kernel.org stable
branches. And backporting new hardware support to unstable outside of a freeze
period is generally unnecessary, as each new upstream release will quickly be
uploaded there.

If you really want to provide a tested backport from net-next to 3.9 then I'm
not about to refuse your patches. But it would help many more Debian users if
you would concentrate on backporting to our stable release.

Ben.
