Yes I did it this morning (away from my laptop these 3 last days...).
I was about to answer you, as expected.

Unfortunately behavior is just the same with this official debian
release than with the RC of last week. Logical BTW, when RC is approved
it's switched to unstable without (many) changes I guess.

how about 2.6.18-1 linux image inbetween?

I just report that point to help developpers knowing what's happening
with special configs. How to work if nobody's telling you something's
wrong somewhere ? That's a problem I often have in my sysadmin job...

I wish you a good day,

thanks for feedback, sorry for late reply.

Alsa module for ALI5451 is still providing the same errors, but as you
said I guess I should report it to alsa developpers. Do you have the
email address to contact them please ?

However you might be more directly concerned by the USB point. As I
mentionned in one of my previous email my integrated touchpas and
keyboard are now working, my external USB mouse is still working too,
but my external PS/2 keyboard, linked to the laptop in USB via a
PS2-2-USB device is no longer working.

The logs in 2.6.14 boot vs. 2.5.15 are attached.

Don't worry too much for that behavior, I can work fine running 2.6.14.
I just report that point to help developpers knowing what's happening
with special configs. How to work if nobody's telling you something's
wrong somewhere ? That's a problem I often have in my sysadmin job...

I wish you a good day,

best regards,

Laurent-the-frenchie-with-a-very-weird-laptop ;-)

Bug#345129: linux-image-2.6.14-2-686 and ALI5451 module

2005-12-29 Thread Laurent Neiger

Package: linux-image-2.6.14-2-686
Version: 2.6.14-6

Hello,

Since I upgraded from linux-image-2.6.12 to linux-image-2.6.14 my
ali5451 soundcard is no more able of playing any sound...
I've tried all the successives revisions of 2.6.14 but it really seems
it's since the change 2.6.12/2.6.14 that the module is no longer loading
properly.

Here the corresponding part of my dmesg :

If I unload and reload manually the drivers

modprobe -r snd-ali5451 snd-ac97-codec snd-ac97-bus snd-pcm-oss
snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm snd-timer snd-page-alloc
modprobe -a snd-page-alloc snd-timer snd-pcm snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm-oss
snd-ac97-bus snd-ac97-codec snd-ali5451

then I've got the same message in my syslog.

alsaconf command seems to work fine. It does the unload/reload (which
doesn't work) but say then all's OK. Then I set up alsamixer. When I
play a sound, e.g. play ~/sound/sample.wav system seems to play it, no
error is displayed, the play command stays in use for all the sound
duration, but no sound could be heard (mixer's OK, speakers also).

Many thanks in advance if you could see what went wrong since the 2.6.14
arrival.

Have a good day and a happy new year !

Regards,

Laurent.

Bug#345129: linux-image-2.6.14-2-686 and ALI5451 module

2005-12-29 Thread Laurent Neiger

Dear Maximilian,

first of all many thanks for your so quick answer.

Unfortunately, upgrading to 2.6.15 didn't solve my problem.
Messages in /var/log/dmesg (or boot or syslog) are just the same, there
is an error while loading the ali5451 module.
But as at last it achieve to be loaded, alsa, play command etc. are OK
and do not detect any arror. But no sound is outputted. Just the same as
in 2.6.14.

[As a funny border effect, my integrated keyboard and touchpad (I'm on a
PackardBell iGo 6571 laptop) do work under 2.6.15, that's great. And my
external USB mouse still works also, but I've lost my external keyboard
(PS/2 to USB)... The adaptator is well detected but keyboard no longer
works. That sould be a different bug report so don't matter, I just
notice it as this is a difference between 2.6.14 (external mouse kbd
work but not internal kbd touchpad) and 2.6.15 (internal kbd
touchpad fine, external USB mouse OK, but no external USB kbd).]

The sound problem really seems to be related to ali5451 module, did
anything changed into it from 2.6.14 to 2.6.15 ?

Have a good day,

Regards,

Laurent.

hmm that is an usb driver.
we only disabled CONFIG_USB_BANDWIDTH two days ago,
so not yet uploaded, might be related.

please monitor experimental and feedback if next kernel upload
solves your problem.

if not you may need to bug report to the alsa folks.

Yes I'll check for releases and I'll do feedback you if solved, be sure.

if not you may need to bug report to the alsa folks.

Yes I've thought about it, but then thought alsa seems to work properly
(to its point of view I mean ;-) ) and feel happy, and for managing that
soundcard it only relies on the ali5451 module. The module notifies an
error and log it, but doesn't refuse to load, so alsa goes on...
But I suppose even if it's a kernel module, this driver is probably
developped by alsa team so I'll follow this track if it's not that usb
switch which does the trick.

Once again many thanks for your help.

I wish you having a great 31's evening (night ? 1st's morning ? ;-) )
and in advance a happy new year (will not be at work tomorrow...)

See You,

Laurent.
