Bug#607484: upgrade-reports: unusable on intel i810

Can you still reproduce this? What version of the kernel and of xserver-xorg-video-intel do you use? Any other news? Thanks for your help and patience. Bug#607484: upgrade-reports: unusable on intel i810
Shadow is enabled by default on 845, so that shouldn't make any difference. that can not be the case. I updated to the experimental distribution video driver (and X server), which does not even start up without Shadow true. with Shadow true I had no freezes whatsoever using experimental, so this bug is fixed in experimental. however, it is not fixed in unstable. I still had some freezes with that version, even with Shadow true. without the Shadow option the experimental X server shows a mouse cursor and a black screen only, with rendering errors in the X log. no other packages have been updated (same kernel version). only xserver-xorg-video-intel and its dependencies were updated. -- htmlhead titleDEREFER/title META HTTP-EQUIV=REFRESH CONTENT=0; URL=http://www.gmx.net/?status=hinweis; /head body bgcolor=#ff link=#66 vlink=#66 table width=100% height=100% border=0trtd align=centera href=http://www.gmx.net/?status=hinweis;font face=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif size=2 color=#66Einen Moment bitte, die angeforderte Seite wird geladen.../font/a/td/tr/table /body/html Empfehlen Sie GMX DSL Ihren Freunden und Bekannten und wir belohnen Sie mit bis zu 100,- Euro! https://freundschaftswerbung.gmx.de -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. the upstream bug is: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26345 as you can see in the report this was reported many times and appears to affect all 845G chipsets, so please do not ship squeeze without a fix or the following workaround. it took me about 30 reboots to figure this out. the workaround is: Option Shadow true in the xorg.conf Device section. to reproduce this bug, use: x11perf -range copywinpix10,comppixwin500 -time 1 -repeat 1 this appears to be a xorg bug, not a kernel bug. please change the assignment. -- htmlhead titleDEREFER/title META HTTP-EQUIV=REFRESH CONTENT=0; URL=http://www.gmx.net/?status=hinweis; /head body bgcolor=#ff link=#66 vlink=#66 table width=100% height=100% border=0trtd align=centera href=http://www.gmx.net/?status=hinweis;font face=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif size=2 color=#66Einen Moment bitte, die angeforderte Seite wird geladen.../font/a/td/tr/table /body/html GMX DSL Doppel-Flat ab 19,99 Euro/mtl.! That output just says the gpu is hung, which can have an infinite number of different causes. I realize that, but there is no more information in it. it is the only message since booting. lspci: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01) Xorg.log: That's still not the full X log, and you didn't provide the full dmesg. ? except for some redacting that`s the full log. I understand that this is not a lot of information to reproduce the bug, but please consider that this appears to be a KNOWN bug, so all debian has to do is to ship a version that doesn`t have this bug and/or disable kernel mode switching. -- htmlhead titleDEREFER/title META HTTP-EQUIV=REFRESH CONTENT=0; URL=http://www.gmx.net/?status=hinweis; /head body bgcolor=#ff link=#66 vlink=#66 table width=100% height=100% border=0trtd align=centera href=http://www.gmx.net/?status=hinweis;font face=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif size=2 color=#66Einen Moment bitte, die angeforderte Seite wird geladen.../font/a/td/tr/table /body/html GMX DSL Doppel-Flat ab 19,99 Euro/mtl.!
