Bug#666686: initramfs-tools: thinkpad_acpi does not load automatically if not in initramfs

2012-06-08 Thread Kevin Locke
It was self-configured and compiled from an unmodified linus 3.3.0 tree.
Unfortunately, the power supply in the machine died and I do not have
another ThinkPad with which to test. If you think the problem is
possibly due to differences between the linus kernel and the
Debian-patched kernel, or that it is unsolvable without a machine to
test, feel free to close.

Hmm you are using an home-brew linux image.

I can't verify your assumption here on official linux image 3.2
or 3.4 from experimental on old X61s.

Can you still reproduce it? Did you try official linux images?

thank you.

Bug#666686: initramfs-tools: thinkpad_acpi does not load automatically if not in initramfs

2012-03-31 Thread Kevin Locke
Package: initramfs-tools
Version: 0.101
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

Recently the thinkpad_acpi module ceased to load automatically during
boot. After further testing, it appears that the module will load
automatically only if it is included in the initramfs (by listing it and
dependent modules in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules). It was suggested[1]
that this indicates a bug in initramfs-tools with the handoff from
initramfs to the main system.

I purged the initramfs-tools package and installed version 0.98.8 from
stable, but the same symptoms remained. Note that it is a bit
intermittent, but fails to load thinkpad_acpi ~90% of the time, so there
may be a race condition present.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to troubleshoot this
further.

Thanks,
Kevin
