Yep, i suppose, but i would rather do this shortly after the 2.6.15 release,
and once they are adapted to ARCH=powerpc, does this sound right ?

Can we get them posted to linuxppc-dev again, please?

this patch was always broken, but the underlying issue it has been
papering over has been fixed now.

Well, last i spoke to Steve about this, he was not so interested in moving
2.6.14 to testing while the initramfs ramdisk generation tools where still a
bit rough, so i guess we will soon have 2.6.12/2.6.15. Not sure what this
means for the beta2, but if things go badly, it would be best to delay it a
bit or something.

OTOH the time to test with 2.6.15 will probably be quite short, so testing
d-i for hppa with 2.6.14 (using udev instead of discover etc.) would be
very useful.

Also, if 2.6.14 is allowed to migrate to testing before 2.6.15 is
released, we may well end up basing beta2 on 2.6.14 after all if 2.6.15
proves to have problems.

In this we of course follow the kernel team, but ports would do well to
keep their options open where possible.

currently d-i unstable uses 2.6.12/2.6.14 depending on arch -
next beta is planed for 2.6.15 so latest 2.6.15 is more important.

nevertheless i'm very happy that fs uploads newer 2.6.14
to fix the udev ide bug.

I need to re-rename the kernel images for hppa. Somehow they got
reverted from "parisc" and "parisc64" back to the unclear "32" and "64".

Where's the best tree to make this change, I've been out of the loop
for a while, so I'm not sure which tree this change should be made in.

[Bdale wants this sorted out so he can update D-I, I believe]

Disable these two for now, we can readd them later, and they need fixing for
ARCH=powerpc anyway.

> - powerpc-mv643xx-hotplug-support.patch

This one has been added upstream, not sure if for rc5 or later, so it can
probably be safely dropped.

> - powerpc-apus.patch

This one should be dropped until the upstream apus patches get merged into
2.6.15, probably a couple of weeks after the 2.6.15 release.

> - powerpc-build-links.patch
> - powerpc64-audit_sysctl-build.patch

Not sure about those ones, arch/ppc64 is dead as of 2.6.15 though, so i doubt
the latest one one is needed or applies, just disable them and let me check
them later on.

There are some packaging changes needed to have kpkg-arch in addition to
kpkg-subarch, and have a fixed kernel-package for this.

Preparing 2.6.14-6 release, getting 2.6.15-rc into shape

2005-12-19 Thread Frederik Schueler
Hello,

we should finish the release 2.6.14-6 of linux-2.6 as soon as possible:
It includes 2.6.14.4 and fixes a couple of bugs, among them the current
udev breakage with ide-generic.

I would like to see it uploaded tomorrow, unless someone has a big issue
pending.

The other package I would like to see finished is the experimental
2.6.15-rc one.

The following architectures need their configs updated:

- alpha
- arm
- hppa
- m68k
- powerpc
- s390

The following patches need still to be checked, and dropped or rediffed:

- powerpc-calibrate-tau.patch
- powerpc-g3-750cxe.patch
- remove-references-to-removed-drivers.patch
- tty-locking-fixes9.patch
- powerpc-mv643xx-hotplug-support.patch
- powerpc-apus.patch
- s390-uaccess-const.patch
- powerpc-build-links.patch
- powerpc64-audit_sysctl-build.patch

and of course the hppa and m68k arch patches.

If we intent to release 2.6.15 the same day as upstream does, we have
still some work to do...

I would like to upload a 2.6.15-rc5 tomorrow, too, built with the new
kernel-package (fixes the missing Makefile.cpu in the headers package),
and upgrade to 2.6.15-rc6 afterwards. Having more arch configs updated
would be nice for this.

Can we go ahead with these two packages, or does someone have objections
against uploading tomorrow?

Best regards
Frederik Schueler
