Ben has "just" closed a lot of linux bugs which only affected 2.6.32 with a 
note saying

"Debian 6.0 Long Term Support has now ended, and the 'linux-2.6' source
package will no longer be updated.  This bug is being closed on the
assumption that it does not affect the kernel versions in newer Debian
releases.

If you can still reproduce this bug in a newer release, please reopen
the bug report and reassign it to 'src:linux' and the affected version

That said, *I don't believe* Ben would be against fixing really critical bugs 
in linux-2.6 should one pop up in, say, the next two weeks…

Looking more at the wider future, I think it would be great if we could 
support one LTS version until the next oldstable becomes oldstable-lts.

I've started to draft the announce to be consistent with this. But I
think there is a problem with the imprecise date (February 2016) on the
wiki. Some of us, and more important, some users may thought it was at
the end of the month.

For wheezy-lts, it would mean until stretch's release date + 1 year, and
not wheezy's release date + 5 years: 4th May 2018. Isn't it?

If I may weigh in:

When support has ended, people will always come and ask for special 
favors in the following days/weeks.


Being nice to these people is fine by me, but there is no need to change 
the end-of-support date for that.


Keeping the end-of-support date at February 6 (yep!) makes it clear that 
any effort made after last Saturday is purely a matter of extraordinary 
courtesy.


That way, you are free to say at any later time "sorry, we no longer 
have spare capacity to handle Squeeze security updates".


Additionally, I think it's fine to handle any updates to Squeeze on a 
consultancy basis, but then not via the official mirrors.

i agree, otherwise people wouldn't upgrade to wheezy at all because
"they will keep fixing the big things in squeeze" - i observe similar
behavior with typo3-upstream users...

That was something I was wondering about as well.

One idea I was thinking of was to collaborate with the secteam to merge
all the work we have done on squeeze that still has to be forward-ported
into wheezy.

If squeeze is not supported anymore and wheezy is supported by the
secteam, the least we could do is to make sure wheezy is up to date to
squeeze, since we're going to have to do that work eventually anyways.

How does that sound?

I suppose a more PC turn of phrase would be something like:

"After the end of Squeeze LTS support, the LTS team will prepare for 
start of Wheezy LTS support April 26, 2016."

I've attached some patches (#1+#2) fixing minor wording and grammar issues.

Then I think we should not miss the opportunity to ask for more funding for 
the LTS effort, so I'd suggest adding a paragraph linking to 
https://wiki.debian.org/LTS/Funding - patch (#3) for that attached.

There's one irritation though, which I could not fix yet: if support for 
Squeeze LTS ends now or on the last day of February, and support for Wheezy 
will be taken over from the security team on April 26th, what will the LTS 
team do in the maintime? It reads as if the LTS team would do nothing til 
then.

I'd definitely agree with this. I, as a user, expected a formal notice 
of end of support, rather than a quiet whimper into support end. Finding

To prevent the 'end of life' I upgraded my old comp to wheezy some time 
ago, despite being told to throw the old box to the junk-yard. It is
