The problem is described in the bug report[1].  May be one of the people
who responded here will find a patch.

Com.sun.net.ssl has been removed from java base package.

Its (long time) replacement javax.net.ssl should be used instead

I can take a look. What's the problem?

Still working through getting EMBOSS moved to github with all the past 
releases. Nearly there. Then I play a lot of testing and updates for 
anything that has run into problems.

Hummm, if not called in too many places, i expect ssl stuff should be quite
easy to update/replace.
I won t have time this week, but i could have a look next week.

I am very much for retaining emboss, thus I may give it a look. The code
using com.sun.net.ssl seems to be used to establish HTTPS connection for
Java Network Launch Protocol. I wonder if that worked in the previous
stable release, though.
