Yes, sorry.

Also, shouldn't pinot depend on (or at least recommend) dbus(-x11)?

It depends on libdbus-$something. But, to be sure it'll work, I've added
dbus-x11 as a dependency.

RFS: ITA: libapache-mod-layout libapache-mod-random (updated packages)

2008-02-21 Thread Andreas Wenning
Dear mentors,

I am trying to adopt these two packages.

So I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 5.1-1 of
libapache-mod-layout and the new version 2.1-1 of libapache-mod-random.

In both cases this upload includes a fix for apache1.x being removed and only
apache2 being avaible.

---
libapache-mod-layout
---
It builds these binary packages:
libapache2-mod-layout - Apache web page content wrapper
mod_layout allows you to create a single look and feel throughout a
website without using server side includes to automagically wrap
pages in standard headers and footers.
 .
It can be used to to add standard disclaimers to all of the pages on a server,
 add banner ads, etc.

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 429126, 462860

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libapache-mod-layout
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libapache-mod-layout/libapache-mod-layout_5.1-1.dsc

---
libapache-mod-random
---
It builds these binary packages:
libapache2-mod-random - Create random ads, quotes and redirects
This module creates randomized content for you website -- random quotes for
your scripts, randomly chosen files and redirects to random URLs. It's most
 useful for inserting various ads.

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 429085, 462861

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libapache-mod-random
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libapache-mod-random/libapache-mod-random_2.1-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded these packages for me.

Kind regards
 Andreas Wenning

RFS: gnormalize (try 2)

2008-02-21 Thread Alessio Gaeta
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Dear mentors,
here is my second attempt to request a sponsorship. I decide to write a
new one because my first RFS
(http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2007/11/msg00082.html) was
orrible. Lately following hints received from Bernd Zeimetz (to whom I
ask excuse again for my unforgivable delay), I managed to repackage from
scratch the new release of gnormalize.
So...

I am looking for a sponsor for my package gnormalize.

* Package name: gnormalize
  Version : 0.53-1
Upstream Author : Claudio Fernandes de Souza Rodrigues
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://gnormalize.sourceforge.net/
* License : GNU General Public Licence (GPL), version 2
  Section : sound

It builds these binary packages:
gnormalize - Graphical audio ripper, encoder, converter, player and tag
editor.

Long description:
gnormalize is a front-end to normalize, an audio converter, encoder,
ripper, meta data (tag) editor and audio cd player.
It decodes the MP3/MP4/MPC/OGG/APE/FLAC file to WAV, then normalizes the
WAV to a targeted volume level and re-encodes it. Moreover, gnormalize
can extract Audio CD track and output as various popular audio formats
(MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, APE, FLAC, WAV) with fast speed and high quality.
gnormalize can also convert audio format between MP3, MP4, MPC, OGG, APE
and FLAC with high fidelity, which meets your need to play and collect
audio files. It can change the encoding and metadata (tag) properties of
final normalized files.
gnormalize can be used to adjust the volume of audio files to a standard
volume level, where different recording levels on different albums can
cause the volume to vary greatly from song to song.

I decided to repackage the source tarball to remove some redundant
libraries and a binary provided by dependencies; the source package size
is now reduced by a 30%.

Lintian reports shows only a minor error: menu-icon-not-in-xpm-format. I
provided to override it, because it seems to me non grave (and the
Debian menu policy states that icons should be in xpm format, not
must be). Anyway, I will try to fix it, if necessary.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gnormalize
- - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- - dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gnormalize/gnormalize_0.53-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards

I'd like to ask you where I could find an explanation about what the

I've checked the Debian Policy Manual and the Debian New Maintainers'

urgency=high: For fixing critical bugs (esp. security). 2 days for

Hi,

Read: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/footnotes.html#f36

The urgency affects how quickly a package will be considered for
inclusion into the testing distribution and gives an indication of the
importance of any fixes included in the upload.

* Remove -X revisions on build-depends.

Huh? I can see that removing -1 is most often a good idea, but -3?

It was my understanding that build-depending on any Debian revision was
a bad idea?

Not necessarily. A library could well have a serious bug that is fixed
in Debian before being fixed upstream and the program may need the
fixed version. e.g. an unintended API breakage can be reverted. In that
case, 1.2.3-1 is borked but 1.2.3-2 is fine (as is 1.2.2-8 and,
hopefully, 1.2.4-1). Other candidates can be broken pkgconfig files,
out of date autotools stuff, transitions in build tools
themselves . . .

Generally, though, Build-Depends versions come directly from whatever
build system is used upstream (and can be omitted completely if Debian
does not have anything older than the minimum required version
specified in the build system - that includes testing, stable and
oldstable so is quite rare).

Why would -3 be any better than -1? There shouldn't be any
API/ABI changes between Debian revisions should there?

Should be - no. Can be - yes, usually trying to fix a mistake upstream.

Obviously, I
guess it makes sense if there was some specific bug fix but it still
seems like a bad idea, but what do I know? :)

Unless there is a *specific* reason for the Debian revision to be
included, it should be omitted. Packages that do include the revision
should not be assumed to be buggy merely due to the presence of such a
revision although it is sensible to check that the revision is
actually necessary.

OK, I have put back the -3 build-dep and left the -1 removed. Also, I
have talked to some mono folks and the warnings on dh_makeclideps is
OK. I've added foo.dll.config files to handle it but the warnings still
exist. I'm told this is OK.

If anyone has time to review and/or upload I would appreciate it.

To me it seems that there has been some problem in the g++ STL code in that it
used a dynamic_cast, which probably shouldn't be used in the STL. Judging from
my sid installation here, this is apparently not there anymore in current g++
releases.

In my opinion you should indeed revert the NMU and close the bug (without a
version number).

lwm is a window manager for X that tries to keep out of your face.
