Various remarks:
 - debian/Changelog, what for?
 - debian/control: buggy indentation in long description.
 - debian/control: unsure about the section, please check the php
   policy.
 - debian/copyright: you don't quote the GPL boilerplate, IIRC it's
   better to do so.
 - debian/pecl: Unsure what it's used for (there's only a commented
   dh_pecl in debian/rules).
 - debian/php5-rar.dirs: probably unnecessary.
 - debian/rules: sorry, but: what a mess! You probably want to get rid
of everything v4-related, as well as all commented out rules. There's
also dh_install instead of calling install with a zillion parameters.

RFS: gcin (updated package, closes RC bug #406036)

2008-04-27 Thread Wen-Yen Chuang
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 1.3.4-3 of
my package gcin.

It closes RC bug #406036 (FTBFS on hppa, ia64 and sparc),
and also closes #419366, #420504, and #436914.

The patch which fixes the RC bug is provided by upstream author.
I have tested it in qemu and it works fine.

The only one lintian warning is
W: gcin: package-name-doesnt-match-sonames libgcin-im-client1.
It is unnecessary to pack a libgcin-im-client1 package, because
libgcin-im-client.so.1.0.2 is only used by gcin internally.

It builds these binary packages:
gcin - an GTK+ based input method platform for Chinese users
gcin-qt3-immodule - an QT input method module with gcin as backend

Description of gcin:
Gcin is an input method platform, which supports GTK+/QT immodule
and XIM. Gcin is focused mainly on Traditional Chinese. However,
it is also very useful for Simplified Chinese, Japanese,
 and many other languages.
 .
Input method table format of gcin is almost as same as those of
 xcin and scim.
 .
This package contains an GTK+ immodule. If you want to use QT immodule,
 please install gcin-qt3-immodule package.

Description of gcin-qt3-immodule:
Gcin is an input method platform, which supports GTK+/QT immodule
 and XIM.
 .
This package is the QT 3.x native input method module for gcin.
 .
For more information about gcin, please check the description of
 gcin package.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gcin/gcin_1.3.4-3.dsc

You can see the debdiff here:
- - http://www.calno.com/moto/gcin/debdiff_1.3.4-2_to_1.3.4-3.txt

A step by step HOWTO to test gcin:

the original tarball can be found here:

You should punch the Upstream Author the next time he will make an new
release, he missed to remove the .svn directories.

any hints and tips are really welcome, also suggestions for further
 improvement and features.

Okay some hints from myself:

  * patches: Why did you called every patch with '01_'? I think you
should count them in an normal way (01, 02, 03 etc.).
Also your DP: lines are very very short and uninformative. You
should describe it an little bit more.
  * Closing bugs: Yes your way will work but I would prefer if you
would remove the trailing 'Bug' from it, this seems very ugly.
  * control: Is it *realy* right, that vexim-pgsql needs the php5-mysql
extension? This seems like to fast copy paste for me ;)
Also there are some useless depends, for example:
  libapache2-mod-php5 | php5-cgi
Have a look at the 'php5' package, this will do the job for you.
Does it realy only work with apache{1,2} and lighthttpd? If not,
the depends should look like: apache2 | httpd
Also why do you depend on mysql-server / postgresql? Can't I use an
external one? You should just depend on the clients and set the
server ones as recommends or suggests.
  * rules: Hm okay some useless debhelper calls and the problems which
Bernhard Link already stated. But you should seriously remove
dh_strip from the arch-independ target, this is quite wrong.
Also you should include dpatch (see for example cuetools or sbnc),
then you just need to add an unpatch and patch call in your
rules.

Also there are in many files many useless whitespaces at EOL and
newlines at EOF. ;)

So no more time today.. Good luck with it and I hope it will help you.

 many thanks in advance
 Daniel

  I have ~/.devscripts with:
  DEBUILD_DPKG_BUILDPACKAGE_OPTS=-i -ICVS -I.svn -I.git

This doesn't have the same effect. The '-iEXCLUDE_REGEXP' option omits
files matching the Perl regexp 'EXCLUDE_REGEXP' from the 'foo.diff.gz'
Debian diff file. The '-IEXCLUDE_GLOB' option will omit files matching
the shell glob 'EXCLUDE_GLOB' from the 'foo.orig.tar.gz' tarball.

Yes. This was what I usually wanted as my packaging environment to exclude VCS
data from all source package files. (Initially, .svn and .git needed to be
excluded manually as I remember.)

Now that I checked latest command, -i and -I without argument seems to
be good enough since current default regexp is very exhaustive.

So this is good enough.
  DEBUILD_DPKG_BUILDPACKAGE_OPTS=-i -I

It was good for me to check the latest command situation.

Osamu

PS: These exclusion lists are impressive.

 -i defaults to this regex:
(?:^|/).*~$|(?:^|/)\.#.*$|(?:^|/)\..*\.swp$|(?:^|/),,.*(?:$|/.*$)|(?:^|/)(?:DEADJOE|\.cvsignore|\.arch-inventory|\.bzrignore|\.gitignore)$|(?:^|/)(?:CVS|RCS|\.deps|\{arch\}|\.arch-ids|\.svn|\.hg|_darcs|\.git|\.shelf|_MTN|\.bzr(?:\.backup|tags)?)(?:$|/.*$)')

-I defaults to:

-I.arch-inventory -I.bzr -I.bzr.backup -I.bzr.tags -I.bzrignore -I.cvsignore

The QT3 immodule of gcin depends on the .so file.
I splitted it to the gcin-qt3-immodule package, since it depends on
libqt3-mt.

I will try rpath in next release. The major goal of current 1.3.4-3 is

Since there is no license file in the distribution of magic, there is no
problem yet. You should first ask upstream to put a file LICENSE,
COPYING or COPYRIGHT that states the license of the whole software. I
suppose that he will choose a BSD license as stated on his web site. In
this case, there is a problem because lib readline is GPL licensed. If
upstream wants to license magic under non GPL license, he should drop
the use of libreadline or use another library like libeditline.

Yesterday evening we released new version 2.5.1 wich fixes some bugs
(also the one you mentioned).
Nico uploaded the package for me but I'm still looking for sponsor.

In the next days, as i said, I'll address a bunch of bugs in 2.0.10 series.

Thank you all.

Greetings.

 Hi,

Yes it does contain the PHP 3.01 license but it is now acceptable. check the
php-apc package in mirror it also has PHP license 3.01.

No it doesn't, it is released under the PHP licence version 3.0, not
3.01; the former it REJECTED the latter is also REJECTED unless the
code was written by the PHP Team themselves.

 Thanks
 Deepak

  That should be fixed...

Currently, the only generally accepted use of this feature in Debian
is to add non-standard library path (like /usr/lib/package) to
libraries that are only intended to be used by the executables or
other libraries within the same source package.

I think we are in this case.

Exactly.

2008-04-27 Thread sadia jameel
hello dear

My name is sadia and i am student of MS(computer science).
i want some information relating to bug #436681 that has been fixed
now. i have two problems in checking this bug:

Q 1- please tell me how can i install the new package of
backuppc_3.0.0- 4.diff.gz on my PC ?? As i have already
installed
the old version of package backuppc 2.1.2.6 directly through
internet
but can not install the new version of this package. I have also
tried
by downloading the new package from this following path

http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2007/08/28/debian/pool/main/b/backuppc/backuppc_3.0.0-4.diff.gz

But when i try to install it by giving commands (i.e aptitude install or
dpkg -i), it do not install this new package and give error of zero bytes
like this. kindly tell me the proper way or command to install this new package.

Q2- In which language the code of backuppc packageis written??, is it perl or
in some other language?? (as i have found some of the syntax is
different
  from perl)

  Thanx in Avance!!!
  bye

Hi Sadia;

At the risk of spoon feeding you something you should already know,
there is a
difference between a *.diff.gz and a *.deb file. If you do not already
understand
these differences, you might be better served if you begin with the
debian-user
mailing list. This debian-mentors list is not tailored to answer these
type of

questions.
