Submit a bug report known to be blocked by another bug
Howdy all, When submitting a bug to [EMAIL PROTECTED], the instructions at URL:http://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting show some of the control that can be operated by fields in the pseudo-header of the bug report message. One aspect of the bug I can't see represented there is the 'blocked by' property. I would like to be able to submit a bug with the information that it is blocked by another; often I know this at the time I'm submitting the bug report, so it would be good to put that in the pseudo-header at submit time. As it stands, all it seems I can do is to wait for the BTS to report my bug number, and only then can I hunt down the information on what bugs this new bug is blocked by, and 'bts block $NEWBUG by $OLDBUG_A $OLDBUG_B'. Is there a way to do this when submitting the bug report? -- \ My house is on the median strip of a highway. Here's a quick review of your package, which actually isn't in an uploadable state: * Your debian/copyright is lacking large third parties' copyright assignment like The open group (eg. xplanet/rgb.txt), Apple Computer (eg. src/libdisplay/DesktopPicture.m), DEC (eg. src/ParseGeom.h) and other individuals (eg. src/libdisplay/vroot.h). Not everything is under GPL, either. There are some notes about images copyright at xplanet/images/README, you should mention that too. While you're at it, I'd really suggest you to completely refactor your debian/copyright in a more readable manner, collapsing redundant debian packaging notes and mentioning that the upstream download site has been now moved to sourceforge. Also, at your discretion, consider following http://wiki.debian.org/Proposals/CopyrightFormat (which can help you track down the mess :) * You're currently shipping a patch (gcc-4.3-includes) which isn't yet committed to upstream's SVN, please take care of forwarding it now. * What's debian/package.docs for? (Maybe a forgotten example?) * Try lintian with -Ii to see that it suggests that hyphens are wrongly used in the manpage. Otherwise the package looks quite good, and I'll take a deeper look to your fixed package. Re: Packaging gtk wiimote whiteboard for debian
Hi! The packaging for debian goes pretty well and I would like to request for a sponsor in debian soon. The only thing preventing this so far is the unclear licencing situation and maybe the lack of some documentation (manpages etc.). I already work on some rudimentary manpages that will the do job so this won't be an issue. So have you decided on a licence yet? MIT or GPL would be fine with debian (apparently there are several types of MIT and GPL, so I'd have to know which exact type). I think the easiest way to do it would be if you send me the full licence text/copyright notices and I'll add them to the package-information. Also I wondered if you plan to make easy internationalization possible. If so I'd like to provide a german translation. Greetings Thomas (zulu9) Am Samstag, 10. Mai 2008 07:25:00 schrieb Stéphane Duchesneau: Hello ! Thank you for your interest and your work, I will try a debian-based distro and see if your package works correctly for me real soon! For the requirements, I wrote down which packages were necessary under Mandriva in the README file, which are basically: python-xlib, python-pybluez (with the required bluetooth packages) and wxpython. It shouldn't be so different under another distro. As for the license, it was not specified in the version I distributed because I wasn't sure yet, but it will probably be the MIT license, since that is what Johnny Lee wanted for wiiwhiteboard project, and because some code (perspective.py) is based on his MIT-licensed work. (which is, by the way, compatible with GPL, so no problem there) I'm happy to see that my software worked well on your configuration, please let me know of any comments you might have! I will work hard to bring 'calibration and options saving' real soon! I didn't know about the other project, I am looking at it right now for the first time. I will try it too when I set up a debian-based distro, so I can see and compare. I don't think a merge is possible since the language is different, and I wouldn't want to use another wiimote-library because the one I wrote is compatible in its calls with the Windows version (wiimotelib.dll) (which makes it cross-platform). Also, I don't program a lot in C Once you try python, everything else seems you know, old and too complicated! Please keep me informed of your progress, and I will do the same! danke sehr, Step On Wed, 2008-07-05 at 03:32 +0200, zulu9 wrote: Hi there! Hi! Sorry for the last mail. I hit the send-button too early there :(. Sorry for the probably confusing stuff without even saying hi. Here is the stuff I missed: The mails are a summary of my talk to upstream. I currently wait for the licence to be set and then officially request for a sponsor. I forwarded the mails to maybe help speeding up the process by making sure the packages are in good shape once the licence is set. I also filed and ITP-bugreport (don't know if this was right). http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=480756 The current packages I build are lintian clean (except of course the dummy copyright-file) and build in pbuilder. They are currently hosted here http://sidux-underground.com/downloads/linux-whiteboard/debs/gtkwhiteboard-python/ (don't mind the poor install-script there. Besides, there are normally more (a lot more) uploads of libtorrent than rtorrent, most of the changes are made in the library (talking about patches made to upstream and stuff).
