RFS: gimmix

2008-07-08 Thread Vincent Legout
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package gimmix.

* Package name: gimmix
  Version : 0.4.3-1
Upstream Author : Priyank M. Gosalia
* URL : http://gimmix.berlios.de/
* License : GPL
  Section : sound

It builds these binary packages:
gimmix - graphical music player daemon (MPD) client

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 431051

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gimmix
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gimmix/gimmix_0.4.3-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Vincent Legout

This looks like some nice work. I wonder if it would make sense for it
to be maintained inside the d-i project?

As far as I am concerned, that would be fine.

 Some review:

 - Minor typos in the README, mostly involving number (ie, missing
s on plural words).

I've reviewed it... I will also submit the documentation to
debian-english as I've probably left some mistakes.

 - It shouldn't need syslinux to be installed on the tftp server.
   - pxelinux.0 is already included in the netboot tarball
   - menu.c32 is not, but vesamenu.c32 is (in testing), and can also do
 menus and submenus

I wanted to be sure that it works Etch.
Also, I had a quick look at vesamenu, but all configuration snippets
seems to be loaded at once so there might be some bad interaction
between the different releases (?). I don't have enough time right now
for that, but it's a must have for Lenny+1.

 - The docs say that to use the top-level menu it should use
 filename debian-installer/etch/i386/pxelinux.0;
Why is that in etch/ ? Wouldn't it be clearer to put the file in
   debian-installer/i386/pxelinux.0?

I've fixed the documentation to match the actual file location.

Currently, all the meta-menu stuffs are installed in /debian-installer/
(because I have /debian-installer/lenny/i386 but
not /debian-installer/i386. May be I should have arranged the
directories the other way around : /debian-installer/i386/lenny ? )

 - No checking is done of the validity of downloaded files. It should check
the images/MD5SUMS file. (Unfortunatly there's no signed trust path for it
   to check.)

That would be nice.
The daily images don't have MD5SUMS either. I've added it to my todo
list.

 - Seems to use the french keymap by default?

;) fixed.

 - Suggest s/NetBoot Meta-menu/netboot overview menu/

done.

 - The di-sources.list seems redundant. I think that the regular sources.list
could be parsed to get the mirror urls, and those modified to get the
d-i image locations. The file would still be useful for the dailies,
   or other distributions

I couldn't figure out how to parse and use the sources.list. Especially
for systems with multiple entries in sources.list (backport...) and
those with mirror that looks like ftp.my-isp.com/debian

I assume I could still grep and sed /etc/apt/sources.list :
 grep -E
^deb[[:blank:]]*(http|ftp)://[[:alnum:]]*\.[a-z]{2}\.debian\.org.*${DIST}
But it would only work for general case.

I couldn't find a clean way to specify the mirror, since it could be
specific for each distribution and/or architecture. I'm just wondering
how live-helper and debootstrap have addressed this problem.

Any idea ?

but it would be nice to not have to modify it to use a !french mirror.

done

dupload di-netboot-assistant_0.33_i386.changes

 Given that

Right. And the lintian message suggests exactly what I'm suggesting: a
watch file that documents exactly why 'uscan' can't yet do its work
for this particular package.

 c) We don't hide problems according to our social contract

Indeed. Documenting them explicitly is what I'm suggesting, instead of

I'd say the best thing is to not include a watch file, to not add a

Creating the watch file with comments on the *current* situation is no
barrier to also working with upstream to fix that situation. In
addition, it documents the current situation exactly where people can
be expected to look, for as long as that situation persists.

RFS: fpm2 (updated package) - password manager

2008-07-08 Thread Wen-Yen Chuang

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.72-1 of
my package fpm2.

It is lintian clean.

This new upstream release fixes following bugs:
~ * provide using current category as default (Closes: #239564)
~ * fix a double-click bug (Closes: #367905)
~ * provide sorting by click-on-column-header (Closes: #367912)

It builds these binary packages:
fpm2 - a password manager with GTK+ 2.x GUI
fpm - a password manager - transitional package

Long description of fpm2:
~ Figaro's Password Manager 2 (FPM2) is a program that allows you to
~ securely store the passwords. Passwords are encrypted with the blowfish
~ algorithm.
~ .
~ If the password is for a web site, FPM2 can keep track of the URLs of
~ your login screens and can automatically launch your browser. In this
~ capacity, FPM2 acts as a kind of bookmark manager. You can teach FPM2
~ to launch other applications, and optionally pass hostnames, usernames
~ or passwords to the command line.
~ .
~ FPM2 also has a password generator that can choose passwords for you.
~ It allows you to determine how long the password should be, and what
~ types of characters (lower case, upper case, numbers and symbols)
~ should be used. You can even have it avoid ambiguous characters such as
~ a capital O or the number zero.

Long description of fpm:
~ Figaro's Password Manager 2 (FPM2) is a drop-in replacement for fpm.
~ .
~ This package can be purged at anytime once the fpm2 package has been
~ installed.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
~ * dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/fpm2/fpm2_0.72-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
~ Wen-Yen Chuang (caleb)

also test files so I'll restore some of that in copyright info.

Then why doesn't the package version, package directory, and copyright file
reflect those changes?

Btw, that package naming schema is used by perl but not php. IMHO it
would be better to use zend-framework or if you really insist:
 libphp-zenf-framework.
For the naming I used the PHP Policy Draft 4.1

http://webapps-common.alioth.debian.org/draft-php/html/ch-php-libs.html#s-php-libs-naming
This document is valid or outdated? If this is correct probably the
 best name is libzend-framework-php

As you can see, that section has several 'XXX' in front of those self
questions, which I think you can understand that it means that there's no
current policy on php packages naming.

Quickly greping apt-status there are:
13 packages using the libphp-foo naming convention
3 packages using the libfoo-php naming convention
0 packages using the php-pear-foo naming convention
0 packages using the libpear-foo-php naming convention

And after all, that section is meant for PEAR packages, and the Zend
Framework isn't.

[1] And there's a patch that is needed for one the pdf generation tests
 which is in SVN.
Uhm... the patch seems to be for the demo pdf

s/tests/demo then :)

And finally, don't forget to retitle the WNPP bug and set yourself as the
owner, and consider joining the pkg-php group so you use the team's svn
repo and co-maintain it with the others (at least Aleksey Zapparov was
 also interested in packaging it).
 Ok.

 Thank you for your help.

Hello Richard,

I would suggest to read the New Maintainers' Guide
(http://www.debian.org/doc/maint-guide).
First its important to ensure that Redmine is not conflicting with the Debian
Free Software Guidelines (DFSG). See 2.1 of the DFSG.
If its not conflicting you can send a ITP (Intent To Package) message so that
everyone knows you are working on the package.
After that play and enjoy to create the package.

I hope I havent forget anything. I am also just a beginning package builder.

Hi Carl,

The debdiff between 8.86-1 and 8.80-1 is definitely too intrusive for a NMU,
let alone that NMUs are not to be used for new upstream releases but for
helping maintainers to fix important bugs in their packages. I understand that
the situation can be frustrating since the current version in Debian can not
handle some cameras (#482816), but if you want to help the maintainer of the
dcraw package in Debian, you should not do changes such as introducing a patch
system that may not be his favorite.

Have you tried to contact the maintainer? Your wishlist bug for a new upstream
release is only one day old!

Have a nice day,
