I would rather recommend a special care for easy backporting. So in conclusion, Carl, I recommend you to contact the pkg-phototools team while doublechecking that the current maintainer is MIA, and see how you can either join or help them for the takeover if necessary. In the long term, I am sure that it will benefit more to the Lenny users. Anyway, thanks a lot for raising the issue, dcraw is definitely the kind of package that will attract bitter complains if the only reason why people can not use their camera is that the pakcage has been neglected. PS: if the package is taken over, maybe you can consider using the upstream tarball complemented with other upstream files rather that assembling a debian-specific orig.tar.gz. http://www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw/archive/ Have a nice day, -- Charles Plessy Debian-Med packaging team, Tsurumi, Kanagawa, Japan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I tend to work in bursts! But I agree it is time I spent some time on getting it up to scratch. I am hoping to include the multi-language stuff for the next release, but this will require a little bit more work than I have currently needed for the previous versions. If you are able, I would like any raw images you can provide particularly from recent cameras. These will form part of my test suite to ensure the quality of the debian package. I don't intend to make these images available but if you are happy for me to pass them on, that would be easier. I am particularly interested in images with white, and clear colours that can be identified by their context within the photo. Thanks, -- Steve King -- /Carl Fürstenberg [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[...] I remember having read Daniel Baumann's recommendations [0] when taking the decision to remove the existing debian/ directory. There is no consensus. But if you modify the pristine source it's always a good idea to document the process in the debian/rules get-orig-source. I have decided to keep the pristine tarball. I guess upstream developers will accept quite easily to remove the existing debian directory from their next release if the application is uploaded into the official archive. - I created a patch that fixes some quirks in the Makefile (should be forward to upstream). - I created a patch that fixes some quirks in the manpage (should be forward to upstream). great, have you already forwarded these patches? No, being your RFS I believe you should contact upstream and send the patches. Done and accepted upstream - thanks for sending them. - I changed the debian/copyright file to include the same text as is presented in the source code. Maybe this file could be switched to the machine parsable format, what do you think? That would be great. Done. - I added the Homepage: field. Wasn't it already added? I have a version with this field, as well as the Vcs-* fields - I might have forgotten to upload this new version to mentors. I think it would be useful to add these Vcs-* fields once they have reached a definitive location. Done as well. I have added my personal (publicly accessible) repository. Should you need a write access, I can have a look to my configuration (I am not sure I remember exactly how this repository is set up). Ok, do the proposed changes and I'll review it again. Re: Question about watch-file
Raphael Geissert [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Yeah, that's another known issue. DEHS currently treats all its input data as ISO-8859-1 and converts it into UTF-8 without first checking if the input is already UTF-8. Since there's no way to deduce the encoding of a byte stream for certain, and the heuristics are both complicated and prone to false positives, it would be better not to check the encoding of a text file in the absence of an explicit declaration of its encoding. Better would be to assume the input is UTF-8, and encourage all authors of such files to encode them using Debian's de facto (and, in increasingly many areas, de jure) standard of UTF-8.
