 The package appears to be lintian clean.

 I'm not really happy about direct upstream code modification, but
 didn't want to introduce a patch system so I've just modified the
 manpage to replace Netscape/Mozilla with Iceweasel/Iceape.

 The upload would fix these bugs: 419932

 I think you will need some code fixes, too...

 e.g.
 $ rgrep mozilla . | head -n 3
 ./wmnetselect.c:/* default executable is mozilla, may be overridden by
 command line parameter */
 ./wmnetselect.c:#define EXECUTABLE mozilla
 ./wmnetselect.c: Defaults to mozilla,

Well, I've checked and mozilla is managed via alternatives to be iceweasel:

$ ls -l $(which mozilla)
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 2007-11-06 00:02 /usr/bin/mozilla -
/etc/alternatives/mozilla
$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/mozilla
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2008-07-19 13:19 /etc/alternatives/mozilla
- /usr/bin/iceweasel

So it's working: or is it only on my system?

 Also you will need to verify that this does actually something useful
 afterwards.

Sure, I verified this too: if you double left-click the app, it open a
new tab in iceweasel, if you right-click it will open a tab for
google.com and if you paste with middle-click that text is passed to
iceweasel to be opened as URL.

 I actually skipped this package because I thought this wasn't worth the
 effort.

Of course it's not a critical package, but it didn't take too long to do it.

Thanks,
Sandro

 Hi Iustin!

Hi Vincent, thanks for your response!

 Some files are BSD licensed (the ones in src/gtest). You should mention
 it in debian/copyright.

Fixed, sorry for not catching them.

 You use DM-Upload-Allowed in debian/control. This is not usually done
 with a first time sponsor. Most sponsors will ask you to remove it.

Ah, I see For now I'll leave it, but I will remove it if required.

 The long description in debian/control contains some weird
 characters (before similar to XML).

Fixed. The copy-paste from the homepage copied UTF-8 dashes instead of
ASCII dashes.

 In debian/rules, remove commented calls to dh_*.

Fixed.

 I am not really familiar with the java part. Maybe, you can post your
 RFS in debian-java@ mailing-list too. The python part seems to be ok for
 me.

Thanks for the tip, will do. The java part was done not by me
originally, but accepted as a patch from someone else - I'm also not
familiar with java packaging.

In the meantime, could you be kind and check at
http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/protobuf.git that the changes you
suggested are OK?

thanks!

RFS: libenglab

2008-07-28 Thread Harry Serenis

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package libenglab.

* Package name: libenglab
  Version : 0.2.2-2
  Upstream Author : BugFest Team [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://englab.sf.net
* License : GPLv2
  Section : libs

It builds these binary packages:
libenglab - mathematical platform with a C like syntax (run-time files)
libenglab-dev - mathematical platform with a C like syntax (development files)

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 491710

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libenglab
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/libenglab/libenglab_0.2.2-2.dsc

EngLab is a cross-compile mathematical platform with a C like syntax
intended to be used both by engineers and users with little
programming knowledge. It supports programming through small script
files but also enables users to easily compile their own functions as
shared objects and use them through the program's main interface.

This package contains header files and a static library needed for
compiling EngLab user interfaces and toolboxes.

Is EngLab a MATLAB clone?

No, unlike other similar projects, e.g. Octave, EngLab is NOT intended
to be a MATLAB clone. On the contrary, EngLab seeks to provide an
alternative approach to the mathematical/calculation problems
engineers and scientists face in their field of expertise. Using
C-like syntax, multiple type variables and a continuously extensible
set of toolboxes, EngLab lays out an easy-to-use and powerful
environment for engineers and scientists with experience or not.

EngLab is about creating a new fast and scalable mathematical platform
that is closer to a programming language than other programs, but
still retains features such as on-demand toolbox loading and data
processing though a script programming language.

EngLab current version is at alpha stage. That means that new features
are constantly being added, but the reliability is still an issue to
be addressed.

EngLab is starting to draw attention from the open source community:

An author's interview, program review and advanced tutorial is
currently pending by Linux Format, Greece.

During it's release in June it reached a rank of 98 at sourceforge,
the last recorded rank is 118.

The program is rated 4 out of 5 stars at linux.softpedia.com
http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Science-and-Engineering/Mathematics/Englab-console-37081.shtml

Flattering comments exist such as:
http://www.computerworlduk.com/COMMUNITY/BLOGS/index.cfm?entryid=1020blogid=14

The project was started by a group of engineers in Greece.

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Harry Serenis

Handling password inputs and verification in config scripts so that special characters are allowed in passwords

2008-07-28 Thread Olivier Berger
Hi.

Let's consider the following snippet from a package's config script :
db_beginblock
 db_input critical phpgroupware/header/password || true
 db_input critical phpgroupware/header/password/confirm || true
db_endblock
db_get package/header/password
password=$RET
db_get package/header/password/confirm
confirm=$RET
if [ $password != $confirm ] ; then

If I'm not mistaken, whenever a user inputs a password containing
characters like a double quote (), the script may fail to properly
manage such a password.

Is there any good practice, doc or otherwise guidelines on how to deal
with such cases in debconf ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Daniel!

I don't quite understand why there is a patch for Windows while this is
not a platform supported by Debian.

Can you add a debian/watch, please?

Why don't you close #373658?

You can move python to Build-Depends-Indep. It is not needed for clean.

Just a suggestion: maybe you can ship (as example) an Apache
configuration snippet to explain how pyblosxom is usually integrated
into Apache. Usually, Debian package are almost ready to use. I think
that you should replace /path/to/blog/entries with
/var/lib/pyblosxom/entries or something like that. And add a note about
this in README.Debian. A new user will just have to symlink the Apache
snippet in /etc/apache2/conf.d, restart Apache and put his blog entries
in /var/lib/pyblosxom/entries to get its blog available on
http://localhost/pyblosxom/ (for example).

Well, this is just a suggestion, you can wait for a future release or
just ignore it.

* please add python-otr-dbg package (check DPMT[1] repository for examples)
* Priority: extra - why not optional?
* please remove all files generated by running tests in clean rule
  (yeah, I know, you're not running tests at build time, but I am :-)
* fix debian/watch (check `uscan --report --verbose`)
* Vcs-Bzr and Vcs-Browser should point to debian stuff
* Off-the-Record should appear somewhere in long description, IMO
* consider joining DPMT[2]

RFS: cmatrix (updated package)

2008-07-28 Thread Diego Fernández Durán
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 1.2a-4

It builds these binary packages:
cmatrix- simulates the display from The Matrix
cmatrix-xfont - X11 font for cmatrix

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 465929

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/c/cmatrix
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/c/cmatrix/cmatrix_1.2a-4.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Diego Fernández Durán

Hi.

 The upload would fix these bugs: 465929

Well, uploading it with this change (setting yourself as Maintainer)
would make the freeze exception go away, and the fixes introduced in -3
wouldn't migrate to testing, for no benefit (but your ego or something).

Sorry for my ignorance. I was only trying to help adopting a package.

Can you (the sponsors) just wait until the freeze is gone to make the
upload?

Please re-work the synopsis in line with the Best Packaging Practices

The synopsis should not be capitalised like the start of a sentence.

The synopsis should be an appositive clause to help state what the
package is, such that it fits into the following template:

packagename is {a,an,the} synopsis

A better synopsis for this package might be:

lister for TV programme guides

If that doesn't actually describe what the package does, feel free to
improve it.
