This has bugged me too. Is anything speaking against changing inetd to
accept an /etc/inetd.conf.d/ directory where packages can just dump a
file containing their own entries? That way one (as admin) could also
easily customise the line and wouldn't get complains from update-inetd
on every package upgrade.

RFS: redmine

2009-03-11 Thread Jérémy Lal

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package redmine.

* Package name: redmine
  Version : 0.9.0-1
  Upstream Author : Jean-Philippe Lang jp_l...@nospam@yahoo.fr
* URL : http://www.redmine.org
* License : GPL-2
  Section : web

It builds these binary packages:
redmine- flexible project management web application

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 478741

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/r/redmine
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/r/redmine/redmine_0.9.0-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Jérémy Lal

Hi Jérémy,

Rather than installing vendor/plugins, all of the plugins should be
packaged. Gunnar Wolf did will_paginate, you can look at that for an

Also in debian/copyright, what does License: none mean? Does that
mean that it can't be distributed? It needs a license..

There's also the following lintian output, some of which is ignorable:

grepping is not enough. There are also full deamons.

BTW I don't like the idea of user chosen port, and I would really
like that every used port is also listed in /etc/services.

BTW it should be the contrary: the user choose a port in /etc/services,
and the program look in services to find the port number (by calling
getservbyname(3)). inetd use /etc/services, so new question:
how to had new services in /etc/services database?

Dear mentors,

Hello,

I just going through New Maintainers' Guide and editing debian/rules file.

In NMG is sentence:
If your package is an `Architecture: all' one, you need to include all the
commands for building the package under the `binary-indep' rule, and leave the
`binary-arch' rule empty instead.

It's mean something like this?

# Build architecture-independent files here.
binary-indep: build install
dh_testdir
dh_testroot
dh_installchangelogs
dh_installdocs
dh_installexamples
#   dh_install

#   dh_python
#   dh_installinit
#   dh_installcron
#   dh_installinfo
dh_installman

dh_compress
dh_fixperms
#   dh_perl
#   dh_makeshlibs

dh_md5sums
dh_builddeb

# Build architecture-dependent files here.

  That is the correct approach, as far as I know. Be aware that you

Thanks for advice and link it can really save frustration.

I have one other question about debian/rules

original variable PREFIX in makefile is PREFIX = /usr/local

I shouldn't edit makefile itself so I should to do it in debian/rules file.
The result should looks like this?

build-stamp: configure-stamp
dh_testdir

# Add here commands to compile the package.
$(MAKE) -C source/ PREFIX=/usr
#docbook-to-man debian/jkmeter.sgml  jkmeter.1

touch $@

clean:
dh_testdir
dh_testroot
rm -f build-stamp configure-stamp

# Add here commands to clean up after the build process.
-$(MAKE) -C source/ PREFIX=/usr clean

dh_clean

install: build
dh_testdir
dh_testroot
dh_clean -k
dh_installdirs

# Add here commands to install the package into debian/jkmeter.
$(MAKE) -C source/ PREFIX=/usr DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/jkmeter install

Makefile is also nested in source subdirectory ... thats why - C source/

Thanks for help

- I've moved some java libraries from B-D to B-D-I without thinking this

To build this package, we rebuild a JAR file then dh_nativejava in the build

A pbuilder env. auto install B-D *and* B-D-I so I haven't seen this when

- openjdk-6-jdk is not available on m68k and s390 wheras java-gcj-compat is.
libmx4j-java is a dependency of java-gcj-compat-headless which in turn is a

So with this 3.0.2-5 upload, java-gcj-compat-dev or default-jdk-builddep were

Hi Sebastian,

  Would you mind explaining why lazarus-ide is required to build this
  package? I'd
  strongly dislike installing all kinds of X libraries to build a package
  that is
  completely unrelated to X/GTK.

  Thanks,

 Hi Michael,

 I also strongly dislike to install all kinds of X libraries for building the
 package
 and tried to avoid it, but nbc is using Graphics package from lazarus and the
 needed
 file[1] for this is unfortunately in the lazarus-ide package.

Did you try to contact the maintainer of the lazarus package about this? Maybe
it could be split out into a separate package, or maybe also put that stuff in
the lazarus-src package? If it is only about a single file, it might also make
sense to just ship it with nbc. Maybe also upstream has some clues whether
lazarus is really the only way to go.

Further, many files lack license headers. Bother upstream to fix this, otherwise
this is not distributable.

And, well, please add a clean target to the Makefile, otherwise your package
cannot be build twice in a row or the like.

Best,
Michael

Before beginning the work to package something new in Debian, you need
to file an ITP bug report[0] to signal your intent to others early,
help prevent doubling up on work, and allow input from others[1].

The ITP bug report should be closed by the first release of your
package (by using the “Closes: Bug#N” syntax in the
‘debian/changelog’ entry for that release[2]), so that when it enters
Debian the ITP bug will be closed.

Have you already filed the ITP bug report for this package? If not,
you need to do that before proceeding.

  that is correct. I tried to get a sponsor last year but I provide
  updates nevertheless. But if the title is reserved only for packages
  that are already included in Debian, I will pick another.

  Looks good. Uploaded.

 It's time for my first brown paper bag release ;(

 libmx4j-java 3.0.2-5 won't build |1] because I've made two mistakes :

 - I've moved some java libraries from B-D to B-D-I without thinking this
 particular package have an architecture-dependent package (libmx4j-java-gcj).
 To build this package, we rebuild a JAR file then dh_nativejava in the
 build
 target of debian/rules so we need to keep all this libs in B-D.
 A pbuilder env. auto install B-D *and* B-D-I so I haven't seen this when
 building locally. I'm currently setting up a local sbuild...

 - openjdk-6-jdk is not available on m68k and s390 wheras java-gcj-compat is.
 libmx4j-java is a dependency of java-gcj-compat-headless which in turn is a
 dependency of java-gcj-compat-dev | default-jdk-builddep.
 So with this 3.0.2-5 upload, java-gcj-compat-dev or default-jdk-builddep were
 uninstallable on those arch because of a missing openjdk-6-jdk.

 I'm really sorry for all this garbage. I hope someone will sponsor my new
 3.0.2-6 soon to revert this nasty issues.

Sorry, I too missed that, but there still seems to be some
problem. The new package still fails to build on many archs and I am
not sure why. Could you please check?

Regards,
Varun

Hello,

Just quoting from the FAQ:

  * How is tmux different from GNU screen? What else does it offer?

  tmux offers several advantages over screen:

  - a clearly-defined client-server model: windows are independent
entities which may be attached simultaneously to multiple sessions
and viewed from multiple clients (terminals), as well as moved
freely between sessions within the same tmux server;
  - a consistent, well-documented command interface, with the same syntax
whether used interactively, as a key binding, or from the shell;
  - easily scriptable from the shell;
  - multiple paste buffers;
  - choice of vim or emacs key layouts;
  - an option to limit the window size;
  - a more usable status line syntax, with the ability to display the
first line of output of a specific command;
  - a cleaner, modern, easily extended, BSD-licensed codebase.

Some of these (preferably not just the last!) should be chosen and
added to the package description.

Currently upstream considers UTF-8 support to be in need of
improvement.

Kapil.

Dear Jaromír,

it looks fine, but the ultimate answer comes of course from building the binary
package and inspecting its contents with dpkg -c. In addition, you can run the
checker `lintian' on the .changes file; it will give you a lot of useful
stylistic comments.

Have a nice day,
