RFS: python-sshpt (2nd try)

2010-01-09 Thread Ignace Mouzannar
Dear mentors and Python mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package python-sshpt.

* Package name: python-sshpt
  Version : 1.1.2-1
Upstream Author : Dan McDougall youknow...@youknowwhat.com
* URL : http://code.google.com/p/sshpt/
* License : GPL-3
  Section : python

It builds these binary packages:
python-sshpt - Application and Python module to perform tasks over
simultaneous SSH sessions

Description:
The SSH Power Tool (sshpt) enables you to execute commands and upload files
to many servers simultaneously via SSH without using pre-shared keys.
Uploaded files and commands can be executed directly or via sudo.
Connection and command execution results are output in standard CSV format
for easy importing into spreadsheets, databases, or data mining applications.
sshpt is designed to be easily imported as a module so that any Python
application can quickly and easily be given the ability to SSH into a large
number of hosts to gather information or perform administrative tasks.

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The upload would fix these bugs: 558311

My motivation for maintaining this package is: I use this package at
work. I find this tool very handy/simple/efficient and upstream seems
to be very responsive.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/python-sshpt
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/python-sshpt/python-sshpt_1.1.2-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone reviewed/uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards
 Ignace Mouzannar

understood what I wanted and put nice Unicode guillemets in the ouptut!
I am quite amazed, even if it looks like a strange hack to me.

It's not a hack, it's an old, documented behaviour.

And sometimes annoying. I have seen command examples in manpages that used
fancy Unicode quotes, and didn't work when copied and pasted into a shell.

Blame the one who wrote a buggy manpage, not groff. Here's a quick guide
 to groff's apostrophe-like characters:
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?msg=10;bug=488213

What about double quotes?

quilt's manpage renders like this in the man viewer: ``pushed on the stack''

I looked at the source and the .1 file has exactly those characters too. So
what should it have to get them converted into nice-looking Unicode quotes?

So much about it being a feature of the format, then. If ``'' means quotes

them to something sane like .

Regardless, I'm sure I have seen some manpages that do show Unicode quotes

2010-01-09 Thread Bernd Schubert
Hello Tim,

I just uploaded the new collectl release.

Lintian -pendantic complains with:

I: collectl source: build-depends-without-arch-dep bash

and

I: collectl: hyphen-used-as-minus-sign usr/share/man/man1/collectl.1.gz:41

I'm not sure what to do about the new build-depends-without-arch-dep. If I
set in the control file Build-Depends-Indep it complains about:

E: collectl source: clean-should-be-satisfied-by-build-depends quilt
E: collectl source: clean-should-be-satisfied-by-build-depends debhelper

Bug in lintian?

And at least for now I do not plan to fix hyphen-used-as-minus-sig.

Any chance you could upload the new package?

Thanks,
Bernd

lintian does not have a build-depends-without-arch-dep tag, it was
removed in the 2.3.0 release. You should upgrade your version of
lintian to the latest one:

http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/l/lintian/current/changelog#versionversion2.3.0

And at least for now I do not plan to fix hyphen-used-as-minus-sig.

It is easy to do so, just replace - with \- or \(hy as appropriate:

Got it; those manpages use \[lq] and \[rq]. They are correctly converted to
either “” or depending on the locale.

`` and '' aren't documented in the troff paper that I could find, so I'm
not sure that they're a formal feature of the format in the same way that
- becoming a hyphen is (the latter is documented). However, I may be
missing where it's documented.

`` and '' have been converted to paired quotes by troff for years, though,
so it is a commonly-implemented feature of the underlying format. I would
call this a substandard rendering of the quotes by the nroff front-end,
not a deficiency in the format.

Yeah, that's a groff-specific feature. I suspect they won't render
properly on, for instance, Solaris. (\[xx] is a groff extension to the
language.)
