In the upstream Makefile you should replace PREFIX ?= /usr/local with PREFIX ?= $(DESTDIR)/usr That fixes both the issues. See maint-guide §3.3 [0]. Just a note: adding DESTDIR to PREFIX, BINDIR, MANDIR, etc in the upstream Makefile is not always the best solution. Sometimes part of the install (or even the build) process consists of updating some configuration files, documentation, etc. with the actual locations of some files and directories on the target system; if one appends DESTDIR to those directories, the results might be... funny :) A much better approach is to make the installation process DESTDIR-aware - look through all the install* targets in the Makefile and add a ${DESTDIR} at any places that do not have it. For example, if the upstream Makefile has something like this: install-program: install (some options) fooclient ${PREFIX}/bin install (some options) fooserver ${PREFIX}/sbin ...that should be changed to: install-program: install (some options) fooclient ${DESTDIR}${PREFIX}/bin install (some options) fooserver ${DESTDIR}${PREFIX}/sbin This achieves both goals - the files end up in the DESTDIR tree and PREFIX, BINDIR, etc keep their real values that correspond to the paths where the files will be at runtime. Of course, the change should then be forwarded upstream :) G'luck, Peter -- Peter Pentchev r...@ringlet.net r...@freebsd.org pe...@packetscale.com PGP key:http://people.FreeBSD.org/~roam/roam.key.asc Key fingerprint FDBA FD79 C26F 3C51 C95E DF9E ED18 B68D 1619 4553 I am the meaning of this sentence. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

RFS: triggerhappy (retry)
Dear mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for my package triggerhappy. * Package name: triggerhappy Version : 0.3.4-1 Upstream Author : Stefan Tomanek stefan.tomanek...@wertarbyte.de * URL : https://github.com/wertarbyte/triggerhappy * License : GPLv3 Section : utils It builds these binary packages: triggerhappy - global hotkey daemon for Linux The package appears to be lintian clean. My motivation for maintaining this package is: I've written this little daemon software to allow the global handling of hotkeys. While many window managers offer such a functionality, they require a specific user being logged in, having the focus and running an X session. Triggerhappy observes the input device files provided by the kernel and can react to pressed keys, switches and buttons even on headless systems. It offers a few distinct features that set it apart from the few existing solutions: * system scope There is no need for anyone being logged in, since the daemon operates on a system wide scale, allowing e.g. the regulation of volume while using the console or the login manager. * hotplug capabilities A running triggerhappy daemon (thd) can handle an arbitrary number of input devices; devices can be added and removed without restarting the daemon by calling a helper program. A udev rule to inform the daemon about new devices is included. * optional exclusive grabbing of devices While usually running alongside the normal X session, thd can grab devices exclusively when instructed to do so; this way input events from those devices won't be handled by other software * generating synthetic events triggerhappy can not only launch arbitrary commands, but also generate input event itself by using uinput. By doing so, thd can grab input events from a device exclusively while channeling or even remap selected input events * support of different modes The triggerhappy daemon supports modes, allowing one to define several sets of key binding. Modes can be switched on-the-fly using the th-cmd command line utility or a predefined key Having this package uploaded to Debian would fill the gap I tried to fill by developing and packaging this tool; I'm using it on my notebook systems to regulate volume, as well as on my armel-Dockstar systems to control an mpd media player, where it proved useful as well due to its low memory footprint. Considering that there is currently no other software offering these features, I'd really appreciate the addition of my program to Debian. If you'd like to see any changes in the program or package, feel free to contact me. The package can be found on mentors.debian.net: - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/triggerhappy - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main contrib non-free - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/triggerhappy/triggerhappy_0.3.4-1.dsc I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me. RFS: gadmin-rsync (adopted, updated package)
Dear mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 0.1.7-1 of my package gadmin-rsync. this package is unmaintained, having upstream release and this package very useful for studying rsync. I have added d/watch, fixing typos, fixing desktop-file, and refreshed old patches It builds these binary packages: gadmin-rsync - GTK+ configuration tool for rsync gadmin-rsync-dbg - GTK+ configuration tool for rsync (debug) The package appears to be lintian clean. The upload would fix these bugs: 605299, 608251 The package can be found on mentors.debian.net: - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gadmin-rsync - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main contrib non-free - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gadmin-rsync/gadmin-rsync_0.1.7-1.dsc I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me. RFS: hiredis - Minimalistic C client library for Redis
Dear mentors, I am looking for a sponsor for my package hiredis. * Package name: hiredis Version : 0.9.2-1 Upstream Author : Salvatore Sanfilippo anti...@gmail.com * URL : https://github.com/antirez/hiredis * License : BSD-3-Clause Section : libs It builds these binary packages: libhiredis0-dev - Minimalistic C client library for Redis (development files) libhiredis0 - Minimalistic C client library for Redis The package appears to be lintian clean. The upload would fix these bugs: 612601 (ITP) My motivation for maintaining this package is: There is no C library for interacting with the Redis database in the Debian repository (only Perl, PHP, Erlang and Python AFAIK). It is also the official C client library for Redis (it is written by Redis' authors) and I think it is a good candidate to enter the Debian repository. The package can be found on mentors.debian.net: - URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/h/hiredis - Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main - dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/h/hiredis/hiredis_0.9.2-1.dsc And on git.debian.org: - URL: http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/hiredis.git - git clone git://git.debian.org/collab-maint/hiredis.git I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me. Re: RFS: ulatencyd - Daemon to minimize latency on a linux system using cgroups (2nd try)

I've just uploaded the new upstream version (0.4.9) of the package, released a couple of days ago. It fixes some issues (e.g. the wrong systemd service file path) and it also adds some new nice features. The most notable is the addition of a 'ulatency' python script, which is basically, a simple client for the daemon. Since it depends on python and some other python modules I decided to add a new binary package for it (called 'ulatency') so that if someone do not want the client, he is not force to install all its python dependencies. Hope it's not a problem for you to review the new version as well. You can find the new package on mentors.d.n: dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/u/ulatencyd/ulatencyd_0.4.9-1.dsc As well as on git: git clone git://git.debian.org/collab-maint/ulatencyd.git Now some questions: * Why don't you ship the systemd service file? With systemd around the corner, you will certainly end up adding it in the future. And why are you stripping it away with a patch (where you could dh_auto_install to debian/tmp and have a ulatencyd.install file to opt files _in_) ? I would just correct the path in this install file and be done with it. Indeed. The wrong path issue has been fixed upstream, so that now the systemd service file gets installed properly. Regarding the patch, I simply found adding a patch easier, but your solution is more elegant. In the new version of the package there's another patch that makes a file to be installed. In this case I chose a patch to report more easily the problem upstream (I've already forwarded that patch, and it is being merged). * Your debian/init.d isn't named correctly (IMHO). man dh_installinit tells us that it should be named debian/ulatency.init (or debian/init, but I very much prefer being explicit). As for the names, it's the same for logrotate, manpages and docs (but don't worry, it's mostly a matter of taste). I've fixed the names for all the files. Since now two binary packages are built, it's not a matter of taste anymore (particularly for the *.manpages ones) :) * Deactivation of the tests: why do you disable the tests ? Build tests should be run and they should not fail (obviously…). You should either comment your debian/rules explaining the reasons or (preferably) convince upstream to patch (or patch yourself) the tests in order to be able to run within the buildd environment. The tests need the ulatencyd daemon to be running, which needs its core library properly installed under /usr/lib/... AFAIK this is not possible at build time, unless build-depending circularly on the ulatencyd package itself. I have now documented this in the rules file though. * debian/gbp.conf should not be in the source package; having a debian/source/local-options to filter it out sounds nice. Fixed... I think. I renamed the debian/gbp.conf to .gbp.conf and added the extend-diff-ignore local-option to ignore it. Is this what you suggested or is there a better solution? Any news about this?
