http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Debian/ForUbuntuDevelopers

+ A Debian document “How Debian?” which speaks to upstreams wishing

Some possibly relevant pages:

http://wiki.debian.org/DebianMentorsFaq
http://mentors.debian.net/intro-maintainers
http://mentors.debian.net/intro-reviewers

There is a rewrite to intro-maintainers pending that is a vast
improvement and could probably replace DebianMentorsFaq.

If these are upstream developers, please also point them to our
upstream guide, which is about what Debian expects from our upstreams
and contains lots of links to advice about how to make distro-friendly
projects:

http://wiki.debian.org/UpstreamGuide

  - Still hope to use mentors, extending it with the concept of
derivatives for the rare cases this is needed or, if mentors folk
aren't happy with this, then I guess we could run our own instance
but this would likely have the same problems as REVU does.

I think this is a good idea and I imagine debexpo can be extended here
to do per-vendor stuff like lintian has been.

RFS: gnumail/1.2.0~pre3+snap20071004-5 (RC bugfix)

2011-11-05 Thread Yavor Doganov
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package gnumail.
It builds these binary packages:

gnumail.app - Mail client for GNUstep
gnumail.app-dbg - Mail client for GNUstep (debugging symbols)

The upload would fix these bugs: #599072, #645936.

Thanks in advance.

Uploaded package is not showing up in mentors

2011-11-05 Thread Vasudev Kamath
Hello,

First of all I don't know if this is relevant list of this query but I
tried sending this mail to supp...@mentors.debian.net but the host
rejected my mail. With no other option I'm writing to this list.

I own the ITA for dwm package http://bugs.debian.org/647088. I was
trying to upload the finished package to mentors to get a
sponsor. I've tried more than 6 times from morning, dput says upload
successful but my package won't show up in the mentors!

While checking in dwm PTS page I found there is already a dwm package
present on mentors http://mentors.debian.net/package/dwm is this the
reason why my package is not showing up in mentors?

Working on hiphop php

2011-11-05 Thread Mike Dupont
just a heads up,
I have an experimental packaging for hiphop php it could use some help
https://github.com/h4ck3rm1k3/hiphop-php
eventually I would like to make it an official package, but I need some time.

also I am working on an improved debian packaging for OTRS,
https://github.com/h4ck3rm1k3/otrs with up to date code etc. there is
a package but it is not the lastest.

I have more debian package stuff in the works somewhere. One package
that might be really good is the diaspora project, it would be
excellent to have that as a deb.

I proposed to get rid of those as they tend to confuse people. I
personally don't read either one, to be honest and apparently Asheesh
doesn't do so either. However, for the time being they are here so we
should really take care someone notices them - sorry about that.

And people seem to talk about it here as well. My previous patch was
applied quickly by filling a bug on the Alioth project, but I had
implementation questions that I wanted to ask first on this one.

While I fear, we're annoying other people, it's probably the best option
to send such questions to debian-mentors for now. Many people do anyway,
so you wouldn't be the first as you noted.

I was thinking that it might be nice to link to the PTS page for
packages that are already in Debian. I noticed that there is already a
plugin that checks if a package is already in Debian, but it does not
seem to be enabled (nor does it work for me).

Yes, you are right. We're not running the QA plugin currently as it
doesn't do anything useful (yet). However the plugin architecture is
limited in many ways too, so we want to normalize the data plugins are
creating before working on the plugins itself again since that may yield
to API changes.

If I don't intend to actually finish all of these checks, would it be
more desirable to move the Package is in Debian check to a new
plugin or to enable the DebianQA plugin and comment out the
 non-working checks?

I am fine to enable the plugin as is with the stub code, as it does not
hurt either. If you only want to have the test_package_in_debian test,
that's fair enough.

I just tested your patch and successively committed it into our
repository [1]. We will announce it here on the mailing list, as soon as
we deploy a version which includes your change.

It would also help to compress the file by using e.g. dh.

Sorry for being unclear. It would help with readability. Using dh kind
of compresses the file, because it removes the need to list every single
dh_* command on its own line. Thus a rules file using dh is usually much
shorter.

Why do you depend on debhelper 8 again

Because he uses compat 8.

Is this the only debhelper 8 feature he uses?

when you don't even use dh?

I don't see how is that relevant.

This is not a direct problem in the package, but it highlights that the
maintainer did not fully understand what debhelper version 8 provides.

So what else is going on in the rules file?

  * # Add here commands to configure the package. (multiple times)
  * #   dh_installcron (multiple times)
  * configure is run from build-stamp target, so the configure-stamp
target becomes useless.
  * rm -rf Rules.make in the build-stamp target. Why?

All of which does not influence the resulting package, but it makes

LeechCraft is a free open source cross-platform modular internet-client. It
consists of a core which defines common plugin interfaces and a lot of plugins
for different purposes. User can install any combination of them to achieve
the necessary functionality.

The main advantage of such approach is that modules could interact more closely
than standalone programs in usual Desktop Environments. Thus, plugins can also
rely on functionality provided by each other. Plugins could also have their own
plugins: for example, support for different protocols or chat window styles in
an IM client.

Also developers don't reinvent the wheel for each protocol. They use existing
solutions (rasterbar libtorrent for BitTorrent or QXmpp for XMPP protocol
for example) if possible. And they contribute back their patches to the upstream
in these cases.

There are active developers command and quite wide community in the project.
So it will improving in the future.

Best regards,
Boris

Re: RFS: gnome-shell-extensions

2011-11-05 Thread Leo 'costela' Antunes
[taking the liberty of adding reply-to:mentors, to avoid further
cross-posting, but inform gnome-devels of intention to review/sponsor]

Hi,

On 01/11/11 10:24, Victor Seva wrote:
I am looking for a sponsor for gnome-shell-extensions. The source is
accessible at [0] and the binaries on [1]. As you can see on [2] I
already have been helping maintaining other packages.
The idea is to integrate the package in the gnome vcs if you think it
deserves to be included in Debian.

The package seems good, but I have a couple of structural comments:
  - is there a reason for not packaging the schema files in the
respective extension-packages?
  - since all bin-packages already depend on -common, why not link
/usr/share/doc/g-s-e-* → /usr/share/doc/g-s-e-common? This saves a bit
of duplication.

And a couple of very minor notes:
  - how about changing the binary names to *-extension-* instead of
*-extensionS-* ?
  - are you actually using the REV/VER variables in debian/rules? Since
REV parses for bzr, I'd guess this is left-over from a copy-paste?
  - you check for bz2 in the watch file, but used a gz for your first
package (obviously not an error, just a minor inconsistency)

If no pkg-gnome maintainer objects, I could upload it in the coming week.

Cheers

 Hi,

I'm trying to make use of the mentors soap interface, but it seems to
be broken.  I've tried both python-soappy and python-suds and get
different errors for each.  Here is the output of the attached scripts
 that demonstrate the problems:

Wait, mentors.debian.net supports a SOAP interface? I didn't even know
that.

Would you be willing to look at the code that implements the servidce
and give it a quick sanity-check?

If not, I can try to do so within a few days.

We do. I wrote about it on [1]. I /know/ it is in parts broken, I don't
know how much though.
