sorry for that. It needs automake package in the Build-Depends field. I
will upload a new update in a few hours.

Cheers,

You can simply ignore it; there's no need to repack the tarball just
to remove the debian dir. dpkg-buildpackage (or your favourite
wrapper) will remove the debian dir inside the original tarball and
use yours at build time.

Replace the debian/ directory with your own version.

Can I safely remove the existing debian-dir from the .orig.tar?

When using source format 1.0, the only sane option is to repack the
.orig.tar without the debian/ directory. If you use format 3.0 (quilt),
this is not necessary.

 What else can I do?

Use format 3.0 (quilt), and the debian/ directory in the .orig.tar will
automatically be ignored. See the SOURCE PACKAGE FORMATS section in
dpkg-source(1).

http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2011/06/msg00227.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2011/07/msg00291.html

I have patched the source to avoid the requirement to use a patched
libgc, so mosh now links against system libgc.
The debian/rules now performs a 2-pass build: it bootstraps once using
precompiled images, then builds itself with patches using the
interpreter built in stage 1.
Lintian overrides are documented in their respective files.

Cheers,

2011-11-09 Thread David Banks
Hi Desmond,

On 07/11/11 18:05, Desmond O. Chang wrote:
I am looking for a sponsor for my package stumpwm.

I am not a DD so I can't upload your package. However I am a stumpwm
user, except I have been using the upstream git version until now
because I initially had trouble using the Debian package and didn't have
the time to troubleshoot.

Technically the package looks fine, it builds cleanly in a sid chroot.
Lintian has one pedantic warning:
P: stumpwm: copyright-refers-to-symlink-license
usr/share/common-licenses/GPL
You may want to change that to GPL-2.

I faced some problems in using the package. Initially, both clisp and
sbcl would complain about Component 'stumpwm' not found. I eventually
found out that I needed a symlink:
/usr/share/common-lisp/systems/stumpwm.asd -
/usr/share/common-lisp/source/stumpwm/stumpwm.asd

I presume the package was meant to set this link up itself, but for some
reason it didn't. I installed it using 'dpkg -i' after building it with
'debuild'.

You might want to use DEP-3 for patches.
Consider updating your DEP-5 formatting:
  Format-Specification - Format
  Upstream-Source - Source
  Upstream-Maintainer - Upstream-Contact
And you need to expand the short name for the license GPL-3+.

Once I had set up the symlink, I was able to load and use stumpwm
successfully with both SBCL and CLISP.

I would give you some more detailed feedback on using the package, but
at the moment I am using stumpwm with GNOME 3 (in fallback mode) and my
configuration -- which is pretty fragile -- was broken. I believe this
is because upstream git defaults to compiling an SBCL image as a binary,
which has a marginally faster startup time. Because the packaged
version of stumpwm loads slightly slower, GNOME is (most times!) able to
load its panel first, causing Stumpwm to load on top of it, which breaks
the ability to use the GNOME panel. [Suggestions welcome, I don't
consider this a bug in the stump package because using stump with the
GNOME panel seems to be quite a bizarre and non-recommended
configuration. I have been meaning to migrate away from it but didn't
get the time.]

Thanks for your work on stumpwm!

Cheers,
David

Well, the only data point I have is yui which works fine with 4.5. I
don't know of any other packages in Debian which need flex-sdk yet. So I

Also when it does become necessary, the easier way will be to use git
branches rather than have seperate sets of files.

Okay.

I don't have the code in front of me right now, but I believe I removed
 all
the .exe and .bat files in debian/rules. I understand why you'd remove
 them
in the .tar.gz, but I thought that for simplicity's sake, removing
everything from the .tar.gz would wait until we were building from
 source.
Adobe keeps those in their svn repo, unfortunately. The .a files may be
necessary, because the SDK is able to produce AIR binaries for mobile
devices. Ideally, those would also be built from source, but in the mean
time, they should not be deleted from the package, IMO.

The bottom line is if the package contains files for which there is no
source code it cannot be included in Debian main. Perhaps the .a files can
be split into a seperate (source) package called flex-sdk-nonfree or
 something.

I see what you mean, but my intent was to get flex-sdk into non-free or
contrib first. When that's finalized, we can undertake the (rather large)
task of getting the SDK built from source, after which point it can be
moved into main. In my opinion, there's no point in splitting it up right
now, since none of it can currently be built from source.

If, after the SDK is built from source, there are still small pieces of it
that can't be built from source, then a flex-sdk-nonfree would make sense,
in my opinion.

Thanks,

It needs to use a version *lower* than what you uploaded to unstable,

Yup - security team decided to go with -2.1+squeeze2.

Re: Fwd: Why does lintian tell me this?

Thanks a lot. This fixed it.

I'm using add-shell now, too.

 Hello everybody!

When I'm running lintian on my almost finished package, it tells me:

 E: jailkit: duplicate-updaterc.d-calls-in-postinst jailkit
 E: jailkit: duplicate-updaterc.d-calls-in-postrm jailkit

But why? I do not see anything duplicate there.

You would need to look at the final result ...

 Here are the complete files:

 postinst

 #!/bin/sh
 #DEBHELPER#
 set -e
 if ! grep /usr/sbin/jk_chrootsh /etc/shells /dev/null; then \
  echo /usr/sbin/jk_chrootsh /etc/shells ;\
 fi

 if [ -x /etc/init.d/jailkit ]; then
 update-rc.d jailkit defaults /dev/null
 if [ -x /usr/sbin/invoke-rc.d ]; then
 invoke-rc.d jailkit start
 else
 /etc/init.d/jailkit start
 fi
 fi

 exit 0

 [...]

The #DEBHELPER# is there for a reason: it's for debhelper to put useful code
 in there. And that precisely will be this if [ -x /etc/init.d/jailkit ];
 then
 ... fi bit. Just use

 #!/bin/sh

 set -e

 if ! grep /usr/sbin/jk_chrootsh /etc/shells /dev/null; then \
   echo /usr/sbin/jk_chrootsh /etc/shells ;\
 fi

 #DEBHELPER#

and you should be fine. Same for your other file.

 Best,
 Michael

You've renamed README.Debian to README.source.

debian/patches/01_network.patch:
- Why Forwarded: not-needed?
- Origin: states that the patch was taken from #533437, this is not true
- Bug-Debian: states that #533437 is related to the patch, this is not
  true either

debian/patches/02_hextoipv4.patch:
- Again, why Forwarded: not-needed?

debian/copyright:
- License: GPL-3 but text for MIT? Anyway, I'd suggest you to relicense
your work to MIT rather than put additional burden on the package users
  by changing the package license.
- The Debian packaging is: Copyright (C) 2011? What about 2009?

debian/control: Description still starts from lowercase letters.

Your diff.gz creates python-ipcalc-0.3/pkg-info.
Please can you explain me this point ?
What is the problem with diff.gz ?
Did you read the description of patch-system-but-direct-changes-in-diff
  lintian tag?

debian/rules override_dh_auto_build-indep

2011-11-09 Thread Mathieu Malaterre
Hi all,

I have been trying to split indep operations from the rest on the
activiz.net package, see:

http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/debian-med/trunk/packages/activiz.net/trunk/debian/rules?view=markup

However the -indep rules are still being called on the buildd machine:

Eg:

http://buildd.debian-ports.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=activiz.netarch=s390xver=5.6.1-2stamp=1320869304

..
   debian/rules override_dh_auto_build-indep
make[1]: Entering directory
`/build/buildd-activiz.net_5.6.1-2-s390x-TAnp4G/activiz.net-5.6.1'
/usr/bin/make -C obj-* AVDN_doxygen
make[2]: Entering directory
`/build/buildd-activiz.net_5.6.1-2-s390x-TAnp4G/activiz.net-5.6.1/obj-s390x-linux-gnu'
..

Am I missing something here ?

Thanks

I see what you mean, but my intent was to get flex-sdk into non-free or

since none of it can currently be built from source.

If, after the SDK is built from source, there are still small pieces of it
that can't be built from source, then a flex-sdk-nonfree would make sense,
in my opinion.

As you know I have an ulterior motive in helping you with this :-) I
need flex-sdk to build-depend on for yui. If it goes into non-free or
contrib, yui would have to do the same. I imagin Pau Garcia i Quiles
faces the same situation. So I would like to make getting flex-sdk into
main a high priority. Lets take the time to do it right. Hopefully it
won't be too difficult.

I have pushed my changes to the git repository now. Please take a look
(make sure you get all the branches) and make sure I haven't pruned too much.
