Heh, except that you missed other usages of the same pattern. Andreas,
 please try the attached patch.

As Per explained, the problem is that in Ruby 1.8, a string is an array
of bytes, so str[0] returns a number (the byte at position 0). Ruby 1.9
is fully encoding-aware, so a string is an array of characters and
str[0] returns a string that is the first *character* in str.

What I did was replacing the occurrences of str[0] with str.bytes.first
to explicitly request the first *byte* in str.

The resulting output when run with Ruby 1.9 is pretty much the same as
the original version generates when run by Ruby 1.8, *except* for the
ordering between lowercase and lowercase letters. Maybe that is due to
some other detail, but understanding that script completely is too much
 for me. :)

If that's not acceptable, you can also (at least for Wheezy) run the
script from debian/rules with `ruby1.8` instead of `ruby` and build
 depend on ruby1.8 explicitly.

Hi, Andreas and the other people!

I see you have already patched the script. Sorry for my later
response: I'm very busy these days: I'm trying to change my job.
I will able to do something in week or two. Please don't drop packages
in the time :)

At first thanks to thsoe people who quickly provided patches. Hoewever,
I decided to follow the hint to Build-Depend on ruby 1.8 because in this
case we not only know that the script works without errors but we also
can quite safely assume that the result is the same as we had before.
Otherwise some more intensive tests would have been needed.

 Sorry for my later

I just uploaded 3.0-28 which fixes all important bugs. IMHO there is no
real pressure to update it before freeze (rather the contrary - I'd like
to see this package migrating to testing before another upload is done).

In general I would really prefer a script written in Perl or Python in
other words: I fully subscribe what Steve said about favourite
language-of-the-week. If this is not possible in a reasonable time
frame please update it to the new default ruby version and test it
carefully. Please be aware that in similar future cases I might always
consider droping the goldendict package as a fallback solution.

Kind regards

  Andreas.

No. AFAICT this is because the new entries are pointing to
/usr/bin/nyancat-server rather than /usr/bin/nyancat which makes
reconf-inetd believe that they are not related.

ACK, my experiments seem to confirm that.

Shouldn't the last entry be disabled? How do inetd servers behave if
there are multiple entries for the same service?

I've added the three lines you provided in your last mail to my
inetd.conf file and restarted my inetd server and it works fine even
though there are conflicting services.

The modified entry is still served (probably because nyancat
nyancat-server lexicographically), so I don't see any harm in this,
especially given the very low popularity of this package.

Fair enough. Uploaded, thanks.

Bug#675532: RFS: bilibop/0.1 (ITP #675467)

2012-06-06 Thread intrigeri
Hi,

bilibop project wrote (02 Jun 2012 00:07:22 GMT) :
I am looking for a sponsor for my package bilibop

Here is a first, quick review.

First of all, this is great work. In case this is your first Debian
packaging work, as you seem to indicate in the ITP bug, then congrats!

The whole thing is arch:all, but some shell functions require a Linux
kernel shouldn't bilibop-common have a versioned dependency on Linux
kernel = 2.6.37 (needed by backing_file_from_loop), and be
arch:linux-any instead?

Quotes such as in « disk » are no international symbols, and I've
seen English native speakers misinterpret those.

You want an URI to a versioned copyright format:
  Format: http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/
(catched by lintian --pedantic).

Any Vcs-Git / Vcs-Browser field? If you have none ready, I suggest
setting up a Git repository in collab-maint on Alioth.

Given the Maintainer is a collective email address, we need at least
one human listed in the Uploaders: field (Debian Policy §3.3) -- note
that this field has nothing to do with who actually sponsors the
uploads; either put yourself, a co-maintainer, or the first sponsor if
they are willing to take the responsibility to act as co-maintainers.

Why does bilibop-common's postinst and postrm run update-initramfs?

The debian/changelog entry must close the ITP bug.

The debian/rules header about Sample debian/rules that uses
debhelper should be removed.

Why the need to disable override_dh_pysupport by hand?

Cheers,

Yes, but for nearly all packages, they are in the source of the package

consider including it in your psi-plus package?

Re: Bug#673457: RFS: psi-plus-i18n/0.15.5333.2-1 [ITP] -- translation files for Psi+

2012-06-06 Thread Boris Pek
Hi,

Yes, but for nearly all packages, they are in the source of the package
themselves. So even if the translations are in a separate binary
package, the source is still the same as the main package. So, did you
consider including it in your psi-plus package?

Yes, most of sources comes with translation files. But I know few packages
in Debian with separate source package for translations (quick look gave me
18 results [1][2][3]) and believe that it is the matter of choice.

It case of my package psi-plus sources and translations come from different
locations and trey are updated independently. I see no good reason to unite
these source packages. But there is good reason for holding them separately:
package with translations can be updated when translators update their
translations (it is always happens after release in psi-plus project).

Regards,
Boris

RFS frefoam

2012-06-06 Thread Gerber van der Graaf
I modified the FreeFOAM source code by removing the non-free files. Also
debian/watch has been modified and now seems to work fine.

The packages can be found at:
http://mentors.debian.net/package/freefoam

The respective dsc file can be found at:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/f/freefoam/freefoam_0.1.0
+dfsg-1.dsc

Also, the git repo at debian/science has been updated:
http://git.debian.org/?p=debian-science/packages/freefoam.git

Mentor needed for automated testing tools and deps

2012-06-06 Thread Julio Merino
Hello!

I am interested in packaging Kyua (http://code.google.com/p/kyua/) for
Debian. Kyua is a collection of tools to run test programs and
generate reports from their results, and also a collection of
libraries to implement test programs in C, C++ and sh. Parts of these
are used in NetBSD as the canonical testing infrastructure for the
project, providing continuous integration dashboards.

Before I can package Kyua, I have to package first its two
dependencies (ATF and Lutok). And, because the three packages will
work in unison, I'd like to get a mentor that is willing to take the
three reviews (one at a time!) so that he can keep a more global
view of the process.

So far, I have created a package for the simplest component, Lutok:
http://mentors.debian.net/package/lutok ; I think it's ready for
review, although I'm sure there will be some rough corners.

Any takers? :-)

Thank you!

How to build a source tarball that includes symbolic links?

2012-06-06 Thread David Lindelöf
Hello,

I'm trying to build my first cross-distribution package, but I run
into the following problem.

The source of my project includes symbolic links to other source trees
(notably, the CppUTest framework and a library used by several of our
projects). When I call `dpkg-buildpackage` to build a debian package
out of my project, I've found that `dpkg-source` will not follow the
symbolic links and leaves them as empty files in the source's tarball.
As a result, they cannot be used by `pbuilder` to build the package
for another distribution.

Digging further, I believe this is because the default behavior for
`tar` is not to dereference symbolic links unless explicitly told to
(with `-h`). I was unable to find any way to pass this extra option to
`tar` when building the debian source's tarball.

I've also asked the question on StackOverflow
(http://stackoverflow.com/q/10917214/1428) but to no avail.

What am I doing wrong here? Is it possible to build a debian source
tarball whose origin includes symbolic links? If so, how?

Could you give us a link to the tarball or Debian source package?

It isn't clear to me what you are doing wrong from your description,
but please note that source packages are self-contained apart from
being able to Build-Depend on binary packages.
