Oops, you're right.
It is due to a trailing ${Newline} in the Description variable.
It was added to work around a bug [1] affecting dpkg-dev; but this bug
having been fixed recently... the workaround becomes a bug :)

Hi,

I updated one of my packages on mentors earlier and wanted to clarify
whether each upload increment the build number? (For example 0.4b2-1
 would become 0.4b2-2)

Yes, each upload should increase the Debian revision, and contain a
changelog that hustifies the new revision. There are exceptions where
the Debian revision is changed with some other pattern, e.g.
non-maintainer uploads.

However, the first upload of an upstream version to the Debian archive
should reset the Debian revision to 1.

At the the moment, my second upload of the package has created a
 strange error:

Buildsystem: Package uses debhelper with an old compatibility level
 No compatibility level set!

I have checked the upload and compat is definitely present in both the
 debian folder and debian.tar.gz

The package in question is vpcs: https://mentors.debian.net/package/vpcs

I think the current compatibility level is 8, not 9.

Ah... I had recreated the git repository to follow the git workflow
outlined on the Debian Wiki, which in turn has recreated the

What would be the best option from here? Should I remove the package

Looks like you used different .orig.tar.gz tarballs for 0.4b2-1
 and 0.4b2-2.

Ah... I had recreated the git repository to follow the git workflow
outlined on the Debian Wiki, which in turn has recreated the
 .orig.tar.gz tarball.

What would be the best option from here? Should I remove the package
from mentors altogether and upload it again?

That would be the best, I think.

Cheers,
   Sven

Help with bug 722794

2013-09-17 Thread Jose G . López
Hello,

I've received a bug in one of my packages and I want to check with you a
proper solution before I make a stupid thing. The bug number is 722794.
I've been investigating the problem with linkage and I see it comes from
package libmcrypt-dev, more precisly from a script it installs
'/usr/bin/libmcrypt-config'.
I'm not sure if /usr/lib is a worng place to install libs in a multiarch
system but I have amd64 and that library is installed there.

The build system do in configure.in:

MCRYPT_CFLAGS=`libmcrypt-config --cflags`
MCRYPT_LIBS=`libmcrypt-config --libs`

And that is translated to:

libtool: compile: gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I.. -DHAVE_CONFIG_H
-I/usr/include -Wall -Wpointer-arith -D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -g -O2
-fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat
-Werror=format-security -c libgrg_tmp.c -fPIE -o libgrg_tmp.o /dev/null
21
/bin/bash ../libtool --tag=CC --mode=link gcc -g -O2 -fPIE
-fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat
-Werror=format-security -version-info 2:7:0 -fPIE -pie -Wl,-z,relro
-Wl,-z,now -o libgringotts.la -rpath /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
libgrg_crypt.lo libgrg_structs.lo libgrg_utils.lo libgrg_tmp.lo -lz
-lbz2 -L/usr/lib -lmcrypt -lmhash -lm

libtool: link: gcc -shared -fPIC
-DPIC .libs/libgrg_crypt.o .libs/libgrg_structs.o .libs/libgrg_utils.o
.libs/libgrg_tmp.o -lz -lbz2 -L/usr/lib /usr/lib/libmcrypt.so -lmhash -lm
-O2 -Wl,-z -Wl,relro -Wl,-z -Wl,now -Wl,-soname -Wl,libgringotts.so.2 -o
.libs/libgringotts.so.2.0.7

So this line seems to be a problem '-L/usr/lib /usr/lib/libmcrypt.so'

So my questions are, is it ok to install by hand (admin) a lib
into /usr/lib as YunQiang Su says?
Can someone try this on a non official or different port? And sorry if I
didn't explain myself ok, this is my first filled bug ;-)

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Note that I'm not a DD and cannot sponsor your package.

I have now uploaded the package to mentors again, hopefully fixed this
time around. Would you kind enough to take another look at the package
 for me?

The Makefiles look rather broken, both with and without your
LinuxMakefilePatch:

- hardcoding defines for Linux and i386 cannot be right. Either your
architecture is i386, then gcc already defines these (as 1), or it is
not - then CPUTYPE or OSTYPE really ought to be different.

- -m32 and -m64 don't belong in CFLAGS, since gcc -m32 and gcc -m64
are really different compilers (i.e. different versions of cc1 get
invoked). Worse, on i386 with an amd64 kernel, 64-bit binaries get
produced. Remove this part of the patch and don't set CC at all.

- CPPFLAGS are ignored.

Cheers,
   Sven

Package: sponsorship-requests

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package bilibop

 * Package name: bilibop
Version: 0.1
Upstream Author: bilibop project quid...@poivron.org
 * URL: https://poivron.org/~quidame/bilibop_project/
 * License: GPL-3.0+
   Section: admin

It builds those binary packages:

bilibop - run Debian from external media - metapackage
bilibop-common - shell functions for bilibop scripts
bilibop-lockfs - lock filesystems and write changes into RAM
bilibop-rules - udev rules for OS running from external media

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/bilibop

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/b/bilibop/bilibop_0.1.dsc

To know more:

The bilibop suite is designed to help admins to maintain a Debian OS installed
on a removable and writable media. One of its main goals is to fix security
issues or harden standard rules and policies, to make the system more robust in
this particular situation.

bilibop-common functions use proc, sysfs and udev databases to query
informations about block devices. The drivemap command shows them in a tree of
dependencies.

bilibop-rules fixes bug #645466: using the bilibop-common functions, the udev
rules file fixes the external disk hosting the running system, and all its
partitions, as members of the 'disk' group instead of 'floppy'; dm-crypt, LVM,
loop devices and aufs root filesystems (and any combination of them) are
supported.

bilibop-lockfs can be used as an alternative to the 'fsprotect' package
(especially for OS on USB stick), with additional features:
- whitelist based configuration: all is protected but the listed
fs/mountpoints
- not only filesystems are set readonly, but also block devices
- swap device management
- notifications are send to the user about filesystems status (about
temporary or permanent changes)

Thanks for your attention
quidame

Note that I had to run pbuilder with -v0.0, to make sure the ITP bug
was closed once the package is accepted into the archive. For your
next new package, you'll want to ensure the ITP is closed in the *most
recent* debian/changelog entry.

by ema@debian a while back, and due to some recent interest in the package
