Bug#740043: Powerline dans Debian

2014-05-10 Thread Vincent Bernat
 ❦ 9 mai 2014 20:09 -0400, Jerome Charaoui jer...@riseup.net :

Il y a quelques semaines, j'ai soumis une permière version du paquet sur
 mentors.debian.net, voir mon RFS à
 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=740043

Hi!

The suggestion for powerline package should not pull vim, zsh, tmux and
ipython. I don't really see a use case where a user will install vim
because they installed powerline. powerline enhances vim but I don't
think that vim enhances powerline.

The licensing of the packaging usually match the licensing
upstream. This is not mandatory but this allows upstream to use patches
and modifications from the Debian package. Unless you have some reason
to use GPL-3, stick to Expat.

Include a debian/watch file with a comment explaining that you are
fetching from git because upstream doesn't make release. This will
document the fact that you know about that.

You need to add the build dependency to help2man.

 Hi Cameron

The last Debian package included the full manual in odt and pdf format and
this is also the case for the version I uploaded.

 Is that okay?

Have you addressed the comments made in this earlier review [1]?

Also, your package was removed from mentors.debian.net (packages get
auto-removed every 20 weeks IIRC), so you'll need to re-upload your
package and re-open this bug if you are still seeking sponsorship.

 Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package ckeditor

Version : 4.3.5+dfsg1-1
Upstream Author : [fill in name and email of upstream]
  * License : GPL-2+ or MPL-1.1+ or LGPL-2.1+
Section : web

   It builds those binary packages:

ckeditor - text editor for internet

To access further information about this package, please visit the
 following URL:

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

 dget -x
 http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/c/ckeditor/ckeditor_4.3.5+dfsg1-1.dsc

More information about hello can be obtained from http://www.example.com.

   Changes since the last upload:

   * New upstream release (Closes: #741337).
   * Upgrade debian/copyright in order to use uscan
automatic repack of non free file.
   * Add myself as maintainer.

This package isn't orphaned, and the current maintainer doesn't seem
to be MIA according to mia-query, so unless the previous maintainer
approves of this, this would be considered a hostile takeover. Perhaps
consider a minimal-change NMU to fix whatever RC bugs currently affect
the package, if the maintainer is unresponsive right now?

 According to :
 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=742990#48

It agree so no hostile takeover. BTW change are so massive that NMU is
 not suitable.

At the very least, please document this in debian/changelog (i.e. link
to that specific message in your changelog, and mention that you've
added yourself as an _Uploader_ and not the Maintainer of the
package). For the sake of abiding by Policy though, I'd feel a lot
more comfortable sponsoring this if due procedure was followed, i.e.
ask the current maintainer orphan the package by filing a wnpp bug
report, and adopt it yourself. The maintainer's last message was sent
on May 6, so he should be active enough to orphan the package himself
(perhaps send him a friendly email with instructions?) rather than
going through a lengthy process via MIA.

BTW the lintian warning is spurious and I plan to fix on the lintian
side (I am the lintian maintainer).

That doesn't matter in this case since the lintian issue isn't the blocker.

Regards,
Vincent

You can create a branch for your older version, and have
git-buildpackage use it with --git-debian-branch.

This is similar to the workflow described for experimental, see:

https://wiki.debian.org/PackagingWithGit#Merging_a_debian-experimental_branch_into_master_for_sid

if there is no change that affects your package, you should probably
go for compat-level 8, to ease backporting.

 Done.

thanks.
looking at the mentors-page, it becomes quite obvious that by now
there is a newer upstream version (5.2.0) available.
you might want to package the newest version. (i'm aware that your
initial request for sponsorship predates swift-5.1.0; but then was
then and now is now :-))

also: it's somewhat useless to mention tell lintian to not complain
in your lintian-override
also the override description might be a bit more to the point: what
the script is used for, is not so interesting; what i find more
interesting is why do you think it should stay non-executable? (the
fact that upstream distributes it like this and that (afaict) it is
only used on an ad-hoc basis may be enough)

PS: i don't want to raise too many expectations; as i'm not into php

* New upstream release.

* Run on top of guile-2.0 (was guile-1.8; fix brought in from upstream).
  Closes: #746006.

* Fix ftbfs.  Closes: #641625.

Here's a quick review of your package:

- what's the purpose of debian/mcron@GUILE_SITE@/ ? Please remove it.
- in general, please be more verbose in debian/changelog. Stuff like
bumping standards version, adding new build-deps, or adding/removing
patches should all be mentioned.
- latest Standards version is 3.9.5, not 3.9.4.
- debian/make-test.patch is unnecessary, just include an empty
override target in debian/rules (it's as simple as
override_dh_auto_test:)
- debian/man-page.patch is the wrong approach as well; you should
instead build-dep on help2man and generate the manpage post-build
(instead of patching it in), e.g. by overriding dh_install or
dh_installman in d/rules
