Re: ghdl package has been removed from Mentors

2014-07-19 Thread Joris van Rantwijk
On 2014-07-19, mentors.debian.net wrote:

Your package found no sponsor for 20 weeks

Ok.

This comes as a bit of a surprise, and it may be unfortunate. My idea
was that, even if no sponsor would be found, at least
mentors.debian.net would reflect the latest state of development of the
package, possibly as a starting point for further work. By removing the
package, you have made my work unavailable for the world, and you have
also deleted any comments that were posted by prospective sponsors.

On the other hand, it is true that I have essentially given up on
attempts to get my package into the distribution. I can understand that
you want to focus mentors.debian.net on work which is actively
developed, and not let it become a dumping ground for half-finished
stuff.

Fair enough. I will simply move the packaging files back to my personal
website.

Two points which I think you should consider:

* A little warning ahead of time would be nice before you delete stuff.
I don't see your 20-weeks rule in the QA, for example.

* If I follow the URL to my (now deleted) package page, I would expect
an error message saying that the packgage does not currently exist.
Instead, the server silently redirects me to the list of packages.

That is not helpful. If something goes completely wrong inside a
computer, it is important to tell the user about it. There is this
misguided notion that users dislike error messages, therefore
software should never report errors. Please don't believe that.

Kind regards,
Joris.

Thanks for your encouragement.

I actually found two Debian developers who have been very helpful and
were willing to sponsor the package. Unfortunately we then discovered
a copyright issue which makes it impossible to distribute GHDL in the
Debian archive. I'm still making unofficial GHDL Debian packages
available, but my efforts to get GHDL in the Debian archive are on hold.

So I agree that this packages does not belong on mentors.debian.net
right now. But I think the removal process could be more careful to
avoid losing track of work that has already been done.

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package gnustep-sqlclient. It
failed to build an all architectures for a reason that should be
something specific to the sbuild/buildd setup.
It builds these binary packages:

libsqlclient-dev - SQL client library for GNUstep (development files)
libsqlclient1.7 - SQL client library for GNUstep (runtime library)
libsqlclient1.7-dbg - SQL client library for GNUstep (debugging symbols)

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this
command:

dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/g/gnustep-sqlclient/gnustep-sqlclient_1.7.3-2.dsc

Changes since the last upload:

* debian/rules (override_dh_auto_test): Explicitly set the permissions
  of test.conf to 0644.
* debian/control (Vcs-Browser): Typo fix.

Hallo,

I've some questions about bug-scripts for reportbug.

- Is there a collection of the existing snippets?

- What is better? Ubuntu and Debian - scripts in all packages or
apport scripts only into ubuntu and bug scripts in Debian?

Thanks for your answers.

Nice weekend

I agree with Joris.

Users are not properly informed that discussions on mentors.debian.net
may be automatically lost after a package is removed from
mentors.debian.net. This should be changed. I would rather see the
information backed-up in some way before it is deleted.

Does this require a bug report again debexpo, or is this mailing list
the place for a discussion?

Best wishes,

Guido

Bug#754463: RFS: pdf2htmlex/0.11+ds-1

2014-07-19 Thread Jakub Wilk

* Johannes Schauer j.scha...@email.de, 2014-07-18, 12:00:
But there's a good reason --dry-run is described as “unsafe” in the
mktemp manpage.

What is the reason? I thought the reason for it being called unsafe
was that if you use --dry-run first and then create the directory with
that name yourself then somebody else could hijack that location in the
meantime.

That's right.

But this is no problem for this use case.

If an attacker can predict what the victim's $HOME is going to be, they
can overwrite arbitrary files by creating a $HOME/.FontForge/prefs
symlink. More sophisticated attacks might be also possible.

Your d/copyright says:

Files: *
Copyright: 2012 WANG Lu coolwan...@gmail.com

Shouldn't it be s/WANG Lu/Lu Wang/? The latter seems to be the spelling
used in the code.

More importantly, some files have newer copyright dates. For example,
src/pdf2htmlEX.cc reads:

// Copyright (C) 2012-2014 Lu Wang coolwan...@gmail.com

Please bump date in d/changelog. :-)

From the wishlist department:
You might want to implement DEP-8 tests.

Re: ghdl package has been removed from Mentors

Does this require a bug report again debexpo, or is this mailing list
 the place for a discussion?

I think a patch would be more useful, AFAICS no-one has found the time
to work on debexpo since February.

The point of the removal is that mentors is about active maintenance
and old packages means inactive maintainers (probably). Yes, the
debexpo codebase should communicate that more effectively and have
options for maintainers to keep packages in extenuating circumstances
but right now no-one is working on that.

I don't know the nature of the copyright issue but in general if
Debian can't distribute something, mentors can't either. It sounds
like you should have removed ghdl from mentors immediately after
discovering this issue. BTW, ghdl is still in unstable/oldstable,
should it be removed from there too?

GPL openssl

2014-07-19 Thread Jörg Frings-Fürst
Hello,

I ask for this[1] bug against remmina.

Remmina does not use openssl. It uses libssh, which is linked against
openssl.

Must Remmina also have the license exception?
