isn't it going to give an illusion that the message has been removed,
when instead it is available on a number of 3rd party archives on which
nobody in this list has any control?

It isn't very useful to remove a message from

https://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2015/11/threads.html

when it is available e.g. on

http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.mentors
https://www.mail-archive.com/debian-mentors@lists.debian.org/info.html

and at least gmane has even bigger chances to end up on a google result
than lists.debian.org did.

Bug#805393: Subject: RFS: liblastfm/1.0.9-1 [ITA]

2015-11-18 Thread Stefan Ahlers
Hi,

I tried to fix most of the points. I replaced my patch with a applied
upstream patch. One of the symbol files had a wrong file name. This
should be fixed, too.

I'm not sure what I have to add for upstream metadatas and I do not know
what to do with the output of

flawfinder -Q -c .

Please let me know what I should do next.

Kindly regards,
Stefan Ahlers

lets see :)

1) VCS-* they should point to Debian packaging, not to upstream packaging
(this is done in copyright)

2) symbols:
sed 's/ \(_.*\) \(.*\)/ (c++)"\1" \2/' package.symbols | c++filt >
package.symbols.new

and look to the "new" file :)
(you might have many build failures and need to fix the symbols file on various

this needs to be done in a later step)

3) question: why one library is called liblastfm1_1.0.9-1_amd64.deb and the
other is called liblastfm5-1_1.0.9-1_amd64.deb

(this shouldn't be a real issue, just I'm wondering if it is a lintian complain)

Oha, this is great. Now the symbols are human readable.

liblastfm1 is build against Qt4 and liblastfm5-1 is build against Qt5.
I've adopt the names of lintian.

There was a missing dependence in debian/control. Fixed!

How can I fix the symbol files now? Is there a way to setup a local
build farm for each architecture?

Paul, Joachim,

Here is the changelog for the version 2.1.1, sorry for not having
uploaded it sooner, but I’m pretty busy currently. I’ll prepare and upload the
2.2 version ASAP; quite a bit of work will be necessary for this release,
notably due to the usage of Unix domain socket to configure and monitor
chronyd (via chronyc) from now on… and I didn’t forget about your challenge
Paul, I
just don’t have enough time to work on Debian at the moment :-(

chrony (2.1.1-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Import upstream version 2.0 and 2.1.1:
- Please see /usr/share/doc/chrony/changelog.gz for the release notes.

  * debian/:
- Rename ppp scripts from ip-{up,down} to chrony.ppp.ip-{up,down}.
Necessary to let dh_installppp do its magic.

  * debian/chrony.conf:
- Use the new 'pool' directive to specify the pool of NTP servers.
- Use the iburst option to speed up the initial synchronization.
- Drop the minpoll option. There is no point to deviate from upstream here.
Consequently, the default minimum polling interval is now 64 seconds
instead of 256 seconds.
- Enable kernel synchronization of the RTC via the 'rtcsync' directive.
- Drop the commented out 'rtcfile' directive in the configuration file.
- Stricly act as an NTP client by default. Serving time to other systems
should be the decision of the administrator(s). (Closes: #778770)
- Clarify some comments.
- Improve comment about the 'commandkey' directive.

  * debian/control:
- Drop 'Recommends: udev (>= 0.124-1)' since it predates Debian squeeze.

  * debian/copyright:
- Update copyright years.
- Various cleanups.
- Update relative to sys_macosx.{c,h} files.

  * debian/NEWS:
- Comment the deactivation of the NTP server capability by default.

  * debian/patches/:
- Refresh 01_do-not-install-copying-file.patch.

  * debian/README.Debian:
- Fix misleading information.

  * debian/rules:
- No need to install ppp scripts from the 'rules' script. Let dh_installppp
handle that.

Cheers,
Vincent

Bug#804801: RFS: libjdns/2.0.3-1 [ITP]

2015-11-18 Thread Gianfranco Costamagna
Control: owner -1 !
Control: tags -1 moreinfo

Hi Stefan,
>Thank you for your hint. I tried to adjust the debian/rules. I've
>uploaded the package. Could you please review this package again?

sure, here we go:

first: congrats for the packaging skills, it wasn't an easy package, but seems
that you did
it correctly.

lets review:

1) changelog: urgency=low would be preferred for a new package

2) control:
libqjdns-qt5-2, can't it be called libqjdns2-qt5 maybe?
(I'm not asking to change it, but to investigate, probably lintian will
complain if the naming is wrong, that means that
it is currently fine)

Package: libqjdns-qt5-2

Depends: libjdns2, ${misc:Depends}, ${shlibs:Depends}

I did an ldd of the qt5 library, and I see it depende from libjdns2 already.
So I guess you can remove the "libjdns2" dependency because it should be taken
care of in shlibs:Depends(please check the built package, inside DEBIAN/control
file)

3) debian/rules: it looks really nice, maybe I would override the clean target
to remove the build directories.
4) debian/copyright: I would avoid licensing the debian packaging under GPL-3+
and upstream as MIT.
this makes impossible to e.g. forward patches upstream (withour relicensing
them)

if possible I would ask you to use MIT, the same as upstream (that way
everybody might be able to forward patches from you
without asking to relicense them)

5) you ship usr/bin/jdns as part of libqjdns-qt4 package, but ldd shows that
links qt5 stuff.
ldd jdns  |grep Qt5 -i
libqjdns-qt5.so.2 => not found
libQt5Network.so.5 => not found
libQt5Core.so.5 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/sse2/libQt5Core.so.5 (0xf723)

so please choose: move in the qt5 package, move in the base package (maybe
dropping the qt stuff), or fix it somewhat else.

this "problem" makes the qt4 package drag all the qt5 dependencies.

the other stuff looks good to me.

(I did a test build on a clean machine with some of the above fixes)

oh and please convert your package to multiarch (needs investigation and a
probable trivial change)
https://wiki.debian.org/Multiarch/Implementation
(be careful about usr/bin)

lintian:
X: libqjdns-qt5-2: application-in-library-section libs usr/bin/jdns
W: libqjdns-qt5-2: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/jdns (help2man is a good
starting point)

check-all-the-things output:

$ codespell --quiet-level=3
./CMakeLists.txt:91: prefered  ==> preferred

(maybe report it upstream, no need to patch of course)

cheers,

G.

Bug#804283: Fwd: RE: [E1000-devel] igb / ixgbe : differences between mainline and out-of-tree drivers

2015-11-18 Thread Clement Hermann
[Cross posting to both RFS and ITP bugs, since it's relevant to both]

Hi,

there weren't any new message on the thread I started on upstream
mailing list for a week, so I guess it's time to relay.

The complete response I received is included below, at the end of the
message.

To summarize:
- RSS, EEE, InterruptThrottleRate and QueuePair can be achieve via ethtool
- LLI parameters won't, but this is considered a rarely used feature,
not supported by recent hardware
- InterruptMode is mainly used for debug, since the driver should select
the best interrupt mode available
- VDMQ, MDD and DMAC aren't supported via ethtool and probably never will.

I personally can manage what I need with ethtool, but I'm willing to
maintain this package anyway since I already use kernel parameters
(easier to use than ethtool, although less dynamic). Also people could
find the parameters not supported by ethtool useful.

Of course I'll understand if it's not acceptable for Debian. Advice and
input welcome. I updated the version on mentor to reflect this in the
description.

Cheers,

nodens

Except for rare cases the community is against using module parameters and
in favor of using generic tools to control the behavior of the Ethernet drivers.

That's right.

>Other don't seen to be:
> - IntMode:Change Interrupt Mode

The driver will pick the best available interrupt mode. This parameter is
more useful for debugging than anything else. There are also ways to limit the
support from the kernel command line, but that is usually not a good idea.

> - Node:set the starting node to allocate memory on

The driver is designed to allocate memory from the nearest NUMA node.
If I remember correctly this parameter was rejected by the community when we
proposed it. I think this is a leftover in igb, ixgbe does not have this
parameter.

> - LLIPort:Low Latency Interrupt TCP Port
> - LLIPush:Low Latency Interrupt on TCP Push flag
> - LLISize:Low Latency Interrupt on Packet Size

The LLI parameters are not generic and are no longer supported in newer HW.
There is no ethtool alternative, but we haven't seen much use of them either.

We always try to determine if a certain parameter can be exposed via method
other
than a module parameter, but not all of the functionality has an equivalent
option
in ethtool. Also some parameters are introduced as a way to test new
functionality.

(CCing Vincent Legout who sponsored previous uploads and Chris Lamb
who reported this bug - thank you guys!)

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "visualboyadvance"

 * Package name: visualboyadvance
   Version : 1.8.0.dfsg-3
   Section : otherosfs

It builds those binary packages:

visualboyadvance - full featured Game Boy Advance emulator
visualboyadvance-gtk - GTK+ front-end to VisualBoyAdvance emulator

This upload fixes RC bug #805163 (FTBFS due to a missing header).

Please note that I am a Debian Maintainer, but currently lack rights
to upload this package. So if you are interested in uploading this
package I would appreciate if you would set the correct ACL so that I
can upload this package my self.

The latest changelog entry is:

visualboyadvance (1.8.0.dfsg-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Add a patch to fix CPU usage under SDL.
Thanks to Matthew Harvey (Closes: #740292)
  * Change my email address.
  * Bump S-V to 3.9.6 (no changes needed).
  * Remove menu file.
  * Remove obsolete include . (Closes: #805163)

I uploaded the package to mentors at the following URL:

dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/v/visualboyadvance/visualboyadvance_1.8.0.dfsg-3.dsc

It is also available on the Debian Games Team git repository:

git://anonscm.debian.org/pkg-games/visualboyadvance.git

Thanks!

Hi Etienne

I sponsored the package, however I would appreciate for a future upload:
- use a correct clean override target (maybe override_dh_auto_clean)
- switch to autoreconf

the latter in particular allows you to:
drop some build-dependencies (automake autotools-dev libtool, maybe others)
and add dh-autoreconf

call dh --with autoreconf

drop the auto* calls in configure override target
probably drop the clean: target completely and also most of the debian/clean
files.

anyway, Built, thanks for your contribution to Debian!

cheers,

G.

Bug#805393: Subject: RFS: liblastfm/1.0.9-1 [ITA]

2015-11-18 Thread Paul Wise
On Wed, Nov 18, 2015 at 12:58 AM, Stefan Ahlers wrote:

> I am looking for a sponsor for my package "liblastfm"

I don't intend to sponsor this package, but here is a review:

There don't appear to be any blockers.

These things would be nice to fix:

Please put DEP-3 a header on the patch.

http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep3/

I wonder what upstream has to say about the patch since it breaks
compatibility with them.

README.md contains build/install instructions, which are not useful to
binary package users. I would strip that out with sed during the build
process or ask upstream to move it to README.install.

Please add some upstream metadata: https://wiki.debian.org/UpstreamMetadata

When I set DPKG_GENSYMBOLS_CHECK_LEVEL=4, the build fails because
there are many more symbols exported than present in the symbols
files.

The package FTBFS when built twice in a row, the second build fails
because the build/ dir isn't removed by `debian/rules clean`.

Automatic checks:

I know the name is not so nice, but I used the named lintian claimed out.

Oh sorry, this is a relict of the divided package. Fixed.

Done.

> 4) if possible I would ask you to use MIT, the same as upstream (that way

Yes, of course! I forgot the incompatibility between MIT and GPL-3+.

I've fixed it by using the cmake option "-DBUILD_JDNS_TOOL=OFF" for the
Qt5 build. And so only the Qt4 version will be build in a separate
package called "jdns".

Converted and tested. Only usr/bin/jdns is a problem and so I decided to
separate the test program into another package.

I've created and added a manpage based on the /usr/bin/jdns output. It's
not the best, but I hope it's ok.

The codespell error only occurrs in the CMakeList and so it is not
important for a normal users.

Hi Alex,

You can mark it as spam

Reporting non-spam messages as spam is counter-productive. It won't
help the message disappear. But it will help actual spam messages to
survive in our archives.

Hi Jakub,

there are definitely precedents were messages containing private information
that the poster did not want to send or regrets to have sent have been removed
with the spam-removal interface.

And I fail to see how it helps actual spam messages to stay, unless you are
suggesting that by using the spam removal system for these purpose we will
undermine it by demotivating or drain time from the people who use it for spam
removal only, or that we will cause it to be more strongly moderated.

I understand that listmasters do not have time to handle removal requests, but
I think that we are being arrogant when we refuse for technical reasons.
Especially with the trap situation that people tend to send removal requests to
the debian-www address without knowing that it is also a publically archived
mailing list. Some times I have the impression that our only answer is just
shaming the requester.

Anyway; there is not much to discuss. When I reads these requests, I tend to
mark the message as spam. And sometimes it works.

Cheers,

building symbols

2015-11-18 Thread Nico Schlömer
Hi everyone,

I'm building the symbols for all libraries in the Trilinos package.
Unfortunately, the documentation [1] isn't too verbose here. One thing that
has come to my attention, for example, is the fact that some Trilinos
libraries appear to contain lots of symbols; including some (all?) of
dependent libraries, e.g.,
```
MPI::Op::Free()@Base
```
see [2] (towards the end of the build log).
This amounts to symbols files of several megabytes in size per library.
Perhaps something is going wrong at the linking stage? Pointers to more
documentation/tips and tricks are appreciated.

Cheers,
Nico
