Bug#932866: RFS: elpy/1.29.1+31.ge61540b-1

2019-07-23 Thread Nicholas D Steeves
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear Chris and mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "elpy". A new upstream
version is needed because self-tests are failing in DebCI with the
existing version due to the new version of Black. I chose to package
a git snapshot because it's a poor use of free time to rebase and
3-way merge the patch queue onto the last stable release, and because
if the relaxed timing for self-tests doesn't do the trick on DebCI
then we'll need something close to upstream/master to work with
upstream on a fix.

Package name: elpy
Version : 1.29.1+31.ge61540b-1
URL : https://github.com/jorgenschaefer/elpy
License : GPL-3+
Section : devel

It builds this binary package:

elpa-elpy - Emacs Python Development Environment

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  https://mentors.debian.net/package/elpy

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/e/elpy/elpy_1.29.1+31.ge61540b-1.dsc

Or clone from here and use gbp to build:

  https://salsa.debian.org/emacsen-team/elpy.git

Changes since the last upload:

elpy (1.29.1+31.ge61540b-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Package upstream snapshot.
  * Drop all patches that were merged upstream:
0002-Add-a-quickstart-section-to-the-documentation-1598.patch
0003-Make-sure-we-cannot-load-Elpy-twice.patch
0004-Enable-elpy-mode-in-python-buffer-when-enabling-Elpy.patch
0005-Fix-typo.patch
  * Register HTML documentation with doc-base.
  * Add a tip to README.Debian about how to trigger elpy-enable only for
buffers that would use python-mode, instead of unconditionally running
it during Emacs init.
  * debian/elpa-test: Set elpa-rpc-timeout to double it's default value to
defend against timing-related self-test failures on DebCI.
  * Add 0002-Double-max-wait-in-elpy-wait-for-output-self-test.patch to
double the amount of time we wait-for-output during self-tests.
  * Switch to debhelper-compat 12.

Bug#932435: RFS: python-jellyfish/0.6.1-1

2019-07-23 Thread Diego M. Rodriguez
Hello Adam,

thanks for your prompt review and detailed comments. Shortly after your
reply, Ondřej Nový helpfully added some commits in salsa and after some
exchange, the package was sponsored with the additional improvements -
apologies for the confusion and the timing.

Nevertheless:

> Looks good to me. Not uploading, per the request in the changelog
> (or did you forget to unmark it as UNRELEASED?).

It was indeed an unintended omission on my part - noted for future
changes and requests :)

> Unless your point is to do two uploads, to ease review and help bisect
> regressions -- a noble goal (for me, especially the part about easing review
> :p), but you'd need to drop the py2 build later anyway.

Correct - the uploading of 0.6.1 was intended to be followed-up by a
0.7.2 version eventually, partly because I was not confident about the
amount of changes and would benefit from a more digestible review, and
also partly under the (wrong) assumption that a recent py2 version might
have been useful somehow.

In the end, the python-jellyfish (Python2) package was dropped [1]
during this upload already, in accordance to the recent DPMT policies.
Again - many thanks!

I thought László usually sponsors the scons package which is why I didn't
want to intervene. If that hasn't happened yet, I can take care of the

As I understand, this with this flag linker does not make dynamically
linked binary depend on library, that was passed on command line, but
none of its symbols is used.

If this is correct, question is why build system system links unused
library in first place.

Convincing. Let there be override.

Good.

Runit does not have support for "one-shot" invocations by design: it is
process supervisor, after all. But I agree, doubling number of initfiles
for three init systems is considerable burden.

So please check for $ONESHOT in init.d script, I will provide patch for
runscript after.

Good.
