HiPerConTracer has not been tested with MacOS, yet. However, it has been
tested under FreeBSD, and it is part of the FreeBSD ports collection as
well. Probably, it should not be difficult to adapt it to MacOS as well.

Hi,

version 1.3.1~test4 closes bug #975076 now. I added the Closes: to the
change that actually fixed the bug (update of the debian/watch file).

If there are no other problems, I could create release 1.3.1.

Bug#934297: RFS: bibtexconv

2021-11-06 Thread Thomas Dreibholz
Hi,

version test3 makes the following updates:

  * changelog is merged, i.e. new entry + all old entries from unstable.
In the new entry, all items from the changes after the latest
"unstable" version are merged.
  * Installation of examples with dh_installexamples.
  * Installation of manpages with dh_installman.
  * Updated standards version
  * Removed empty test/control
  * Removed OpenSSL exception from debian/copyright. BibTeXConv uses
LibSSL's MD5 computation function (from shared library). In
addition, it uses (by default) libcurl with OpenSSL (from shared
library).

If the changes are okay, I would create an upstream release 1.3.1 (i.e.
without ~testX), and a new package.

I rewrote the postinst and also added a postrm, in the same way as the
user creation is made by the tcpdump package.

Bug#961114: RFS: sctplib/1.0.25-1

2020-05-20 Thread Thomas Dreibholz
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "sctplib
<https://www.uni-due.de/~be0001/sctplib/>":

  * Package name: sctplib
Version: 1.0.25-1
Upstream Author: Thomas Dreibholz mailto:dre...@iem.uni-due.de>>
  * URL: https://www.uni-due.de/~be0001/sctplib/
  * License: LGPL-3+
  * Section: net

The SCTPLIB library is a prototype implementation of the Stream Control
Transmission Protocol (SCTP), a message-oriented reliable transport
protocol that supports multi-homing, and multiple message streams
multiplexed within an SCTP connection (also named association). SCTP is
described in RFC 4960. See https://www.uni-due.de/~be0001/sctplib/ for
details. The API of the library is modeled after Section 10 of RFC 4960,
and most parameters and functions should be self-explanatory to the user
familiar with this document. In addition to these interface functions
between an Upper Layer Protocol (ULP) and an SCTP instance, the library
also provides a number of helper functions that can be used to manage
callbacks and timers, as well as UDP sockets for simple IPC.
Furthermore, SCTPLIB provides support for UDP encapsulation, making it
possible to co-exist with kernel SCTP implementations.

"sctplib <https://www.uni-due.de/~be0001/sctplib/>" builds these binary
packages:

  * libsctplib1 - User-space implementation of the SCTP protocol RFC 4960

SubNetCalc is an IPv4/IPv6 subnet address calculator. For given IPv4 or
IPv6 address and netmask or prefix length, it calculates network
address, broadcast address, maximum number of hosts and host address
range. The output is colourized for better readability (e.g. network
part, host part). Also, it prints the addresses in binary format for
better understandability. Furthermore, it can identify the address type
(e.g. multicast, unique local, site local, etc.) and extract additional
information from the address (e.g. type, scope, interface ID, etc.).

rsplib is the Open Source implementation of the IETF Reliable Server
Pooling (RSerPool) architecture, a novel framework for pool and session
management. The Reliable Server Pooling (RSerPool) architecture (defined
by RFC 5351 to RFC 5356) is an overlay network framework to provide
server replication and session failover capabilities to its
applications. Server redundancy leads to load distribution and load
balancing, which are also covered by RSerPool. But in strong contrast to
other solutions in the area of GRID and high-performance computing, the
fundamental property of RSerPool is to be "lightweight", i.e. it can
also be used on devices providing only meagre memory and CPU resources
(e.g. embedded systems like telecommunications equipment or routers).

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "sctplib
<https://www.uni-due.de/~be0001/sctplib/>":

  * Package name: sctplib
Version: 1.0.22-1
Upstream Author: Thomas Dreibholz mailto:dre...@iem.uni-due.de>>
  * URL: https://www.uni-due.de/~be0001/sctplib/
  * License: LGPL-3
  * Section: net

"sctplib <https://www.uni-due.de/~be0001/sctplib/>" builds these binary
packages:

  * libsctplib1 - User-space implementation of the SCTP protocol RFC 4960
  * libsctplib-dev - Headers and libraries of the user-space SCTP
implementation SCTPLIB
  * sctplib-docs - Documentation of the user-space SCTP implementation
SCTPLIB

Merging the Python 3 modifications into the Python 2 code would mean to make a
lot of changes to the stable Python 2 code. There is a high likeliness that the
currently stable Python 2 code would not work correctly in some rare cases any
more. So, it is better to leave the stable Python 2 package as is, and create a
separate Python 3 package -- as it is also done for a lot of other packages.

Re: RFS: rsplib (implementation of the IETF RSerPool framework and example applications)

2012-06-11 Thread Thomas Dreibholz
Dear George,

thank you for your review of the rsplib package.

Currently, the new release 3.0.0 is under development and it is now possible
to change the program naming upstream, according to your comments. That is:
- server = rspserver
- terminal = rspterminal
- registrar = rspregistrar

The new package for the first 3.0.0 release candidate is at:
http://mentors.debian.net/package/rsplib

   - debian/copyright: Format-Specification is empty.

  and lintian complain:
  N: Processing binary package librsplib2 (version 2.7.11-1) ...
  W: librsplib2: syntax-error-in-debian-changelog line 68 found trailer

 Yes, the debian/changelog could be improved a bit.

 I'd also like to add that some binaries with too generic names like [1] are
 being brought to the system by rsplib-tools package. These might look
 convenient, but are likely to clash (as in a file name conflict) sooner or
 later on whatever system or distribution.

 Other than that, the style looks impressive, and I wish we could have more
 packages like that in the Debian archive. Unfortunately I can't upload that,
 as I'm not familiar with RSerPool (and that implementation in particular)
 nor I could perform any sensible testing of it. I really hope you find a
 proper sponsor(s).

Re: Bug#670448: RFS: bibtexconv/0.8.16-3 [ITP]

2012-05-12 Thread Thomas Dreibholz
Dear ,

thank you for your review of the BibTeXConv package!

I have created an updated version here (version 0.8.19-1):
http://mentors.debian.net/package/bibtexconv .

 I took a look at your package:

   - Build fails in a clean chroot with g++-4.7:

   [...]
  dh_auto_build
   make[1]: Entering directory `/tmp/buildd/bibtexconv-0.8.16'
   make  all-recursive

   make[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/buildd/bibtexconv-0.8.16'
   dh_auto_build: make -j1 returned exit code 2
   make: *** [build] Error 2

Fixed.

   - In debian/copyright, the Format URL is wrong [1]. Although not
 required, it wouldn't be a bad idea adding an Upstream-Contact
 field.

 [1] http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/

Added.

 ltmain.sh should have its own Files paragraph.

   - Since you only have one entry in the changelog, version number
 should be 0.8.16-1.

Fixed.

   - You may want to use debhelper compat 9.

Done.

   - It looks like src/bibtexconv-odt doesn't use any bashisms, so you
 could use /bin/sh.

Changed.

 That script will fail if $BIBTEX_FILE or $EXPORT_SCRIPT contain
 spaces though.

Fixed. It now also processed files with spaces in their names.

 You would also get a more readable script (and less error-prone) by
 using set -e [2]; for example, you're not checking the exit status
 of mktemp.

Done.

 [2] http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s-scripts

   - bibtexconv(1) states that the following arguments have to be
 provided; it seems unlikely that all of the options are mandatory,
 so this needs to be clarified. In the synopsis, the usual convention
 is to put only optional arguments between brackets (the usage line
 of src/bibtexconv-odt should follow that convention too).

Changed.

 Some of the commands are not documented.

 The examples get wrapped in narrow terminals, in a way that make
 them invalid shell commands; it would be better to manually wrap
 them and have continuation lines end with '\'.

Strangely, in the first occurrence of \\ after .It, man converts \ to |
(i.e. the pipe symbol). I did not find a way to turn this wrong behaviour off,
therefore I did not add manual wrapping.

 Do not use a pair of '*' for emphasis (e.g. *not*), there are
 macros for that, such as .I.

Fixed.

 Please consider getting rid of the AUTHOR section (see
 man-pages(7)).

Removed.

Best regards

Re: Bug#669585: RFS: bibtexconv/0.8.14-1 -- Looking for a Debian sponsor

2012-04-21 Thread Thomas Dreibholz
Dear all,

thank you for your review of the bibtexconv package!

The updated package version 0.8.15
(http://mentors.debian.net/package/bibtexconv) should fix the problems:
- Files already installed by the build system are not listed in debian/ files
any longer.
- debian/copyright has been fixed (2012 instead of 2011)
- Empty Recommends removed from debian/control
- debian/rules updated, particularly: the changelog is now compressed.

Note, that the example files (*.export, *.bib and *.odt) are not compressed,
since they are read directly by bibtexconv. bibtexconv has no on-the-fly GZip
decompression support built in. This would not be very useful, since these
files are quite small and another dependency would be added. Also, the ODT
template is already ZIP-compressed, and a further GZip compression would not
provide any real benefit.

Dear Benoît,

thank you for your review of the bibtexconv package.

I have updated the package according to the comments below. The new version
0.8.3 is now on the mentors server at
http://mentors.debian.net/package/bibtexconv .

 I had a look at your package; here are a few comments:

   - You should install the example files in
 /usr/share/doc/bibtexconv/examples instead of /usr/share/bibtexconv;

Fixed.

   - It would be great if your debian/copyright file followed DEP-5
 (http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep5/);

Fixed.

   - Speaking of copyright, the upstream COPYING file refers to a
 COPYING.GPL file, but it isn't included in the package, which means
 there is no copy of the GPL provided with the package;

The file was missing in Makefile.am. It is now included in the upstream package.

   - I'm not sure why the man pages are in section 8. Seems to me like
 section 1 would be correct (see man man-pages for details). Also,

Yes, fixed.

 both man pages have an ARGUMENTS and an EXAMPLES sections; according
 to man-pages(7), they should be named OPTIONS and EXAMPLE,
 respectively. Oh and the last option in bibtexconv.8 is missing a
 leading dash (-non-interactive).

Changed.

I have named the examples section in bibtexconv.1 EXAMPLES (because there are
multiple examples included). ARGUMENTS have been changed to OPTIONS.

   - debian/changelog has only one entry, but it starts with 0.8.0-2; why
 not 0.8.0-1?

I had uploaded another version to mentors.debian.net, since I made a change in
debian/changelog without changing the upstream package.

Best regards

Thomas Dreibholz

uploaded an updated version to the mentors server, which fixes the problems
found: http://mentors.debian.net/cgi-bin/sponsor-
pkglist?action=details;package=rsplib

 I took some time to look at it and found out that lintian (from debian
 unstalbe) complains about the following problems [1]. All of these are easy
 to fix (look at the lintian comments/suggestions), though I'm not quite
 sure why you need to set rpath for your build.

 You should also document each change you have made to the package in your
 debian/changelog.

 Regardless of that I reviewed that package I don't particularly intend to
 sponsor it, and it is not because the package is bad or I'm evil, but it is
 because I will not be able to take responsibility for it if something goes
 wrong or in case of any issues, since I'm not familiar with RSP internals
 and implementation. So -mentors list wouild be your best bet ;-) I hope you
 will find a sponsor.

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package rsplib. RSPLIB is the Open Source
implementation (GPLv3) of the IETF's standard for Reliable Server Pooling
(RSerPool). RSerPool is a framework for server pool management and access. It
is an IETF standard, which has been developed by the IETF RSerPool Working
Group and documented in RFC 5351 to RFC 5356. From the programmer's
perspective, a pool is mainly seen as a highly available server. RSerPool
realizes a Session Layer in the OSI model. The API to access this Session
Layer is very similar to TCP/IP socket programming, so using RSerPool
functionalities in own programs is quite easy. If you are looking for a
simple-to-use workload distribution system including failover capabilities,
but without the overhead and configuration effort of GRID computing, RSPLIB
is probably what you are looking for! A lot of documents on RSerPool and
RSPLIB can be found on the project homepage at:

RSPLIB is already included in Ubuntu Intrepid and Jaunty. Therefore, we would

2009-01-30 Thread Thomas Dreibholz
Dear mentors,

We are looking for a sponsor for our package rsplib. RSPLIB is the Open
Source implementation (GPLv3) of the IETF's standard for Reliable Server
Pooling (RSerPool), which is described in RFC 5351 to RFC 5356. If you a
looking for a Grid compution solution which is simple, easy to setup and
mostly self-configuring, you are probably looking for RSerPool! It provides
leightweight protocols and functionalities for the management of server pools
and sessions between users and pools. In particular, RSerPool can be used for
highly available applications and for load distribution and load balancing in
server pools. Its API is simple to use and understand, making the development
of own distributed applications very easy. Details on RSerPool and the RSPLIB
can be found on our project's website: http://tdrwww.iem.uni-
due.de/dreibholz/rserpool/.

RSPLIB is already included in the Ubuntu Linux distribution. Therefore, we
would also like to contribute it into Debian, too.

Re: RFS: sctplib

2008-05-08 Thread Thomas Dreibholz
 What about http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=340938 ?
 Does it offer any advantage over lksctp which warrants a re-inclusion.

sctplib supports the latest version of the SCTP API, including sendx() and
connectx(). sendx() is not supported by lksctp, connectx() only by very
new kernels. Since sctplib is userland, it can also be used on kernels
without (working) lksctp. In particular, it also works with old kernels
that do not have a stable lksctp (lksctp does not work reliably on kernels
before 2.6.20). Furthermore, userland SCTP allows for replacing the SCTP
implementation without modifying the kernel.

sctplib still has quite a lot of users and I have been asked regularly for
up-to-date packages. Therefore, I have updated the Debian package to the
latest sctplib version.
