Package: sponsorship-requests
Subject: RFS - policyd-weight/0.1.15.2-11

Hi everybody,

I've created a new version of my package policyd-weight.

 * Package name: policyd-weight
   Version : 0.1.15.2-11
   Upstream Author : Robert Felber
 * URL : www.policyd-weight.org
 * License : GPL-2+
   Section : mail

As my sponsor Arno seems to be unavailable sice some weeks I'm asking here for
someone who
could upload my packages. Debdiff is found under [1], changes since last upload:

policyd-weight (0.1.15.2-11) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/postrm
+ Fix command-with-path-in-maintainer-script
  * debian/init.d
+ Updated LSB header
  * debian/rules
+ Add dh_lintian
  * Add debian/source.lintian-overrides
+ override for debian-watch-may-check-gpg-signature as upstream does
  not provide cryptographic signature
  * Update to debhelper 9
  * Updated 10_replace_net_dns_dn_expand.patch to use official replacement
Net::DNS::DomainName::decode for Net::DNS::Packet::dn_expand
  * Add 13_fix_default_rhsbl_dnsbl_in_man5.patch which updates default
dnsbls/rhsbls in man5 manpage
  * Add 14_ignore_rfc1918_a_records_config_option.patch which introduces
new config config option $IGNORE_RFC1918_A. If enabled A records with
RFC1918 addresses aren't treated as bogus addresses by policyd-weight
and therefore bogus_mx_score is not added. Updated sample configuration
and man5 manpage (Closes: #799314)
  * Add closing bug in previous changelog entry

Dear Maintainer,

policyd-weight uses the abusive hosts blocking list which has been shutdown on
january 1st,
more information can be found on the website of the dnsbl:

http://www.ahbl.org/content/last-notice-wildcarding-services-jan-1st

The list now replies which a positive response which may lead to false
positives. I hereby
ask for someone to upload this package to stable?

I've already recreated the package for unstable and uploaded it to mentors.
Meanwhile I've
backported the patch for stable. A debdiff can be found here [1]

Subject: RFS - policyd-weight/0.1.15.2-8

Hi everybody,

currently, policyd-weight is broken in unstable/testing due to recent
libnet-dns-perl upgrade,
technically speaking policyd-weight used Net::DNS::Packet function dh_expand()
which does not
exist anymore. This upgrade fixes policyd-weight, policyd-weight now uses
Net::DNS::Packet
function dh_expand_PP().

 * Package name: policyd-weight
   Version : 0.1.15.2-8
   Upstream Author : Robert Felber
 * URL : www.policyd-weight.org
 * License : GPL-2+
   Section : mail

Changes:

  * Add 10_replace_net_dns_dn_expand.patch which replaces Net::DNS::Packet
function dh_expand() with dh_expand_PP() (Closes: #752845)
  * Fixed description in 09_fix_net_dns_usage.patch

It builds those binary packages:
policyd-weight - Perl policy daemon for the Postfix MTA

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

Bug#753016: RFS - policyd-weight/0.1.15.2-8 (fixes broken policyd-weight in unstable/testing rc bug #752845)

2014-06-28 Thread Werner Detter
Package: sponsorship-requests
Subject: RFS - policyd-weight/0.1.15.2-8

Hi everybody,

currently, policyd-weight is broken in unstable/testing due to recent
libnet-dns-perl upgrade,
technically speaking policyd-weight used Net::DNS::Packet function dh_expand()
which does not
exist anymore. This upgrade fixes policyd-weight, policyd-weight now uses
Net::DNS::Packet
function dh_expand_PP().

 * Package name: policyd-weight
   Version : 0.1.15.2-8
   Upstream Author : Robert Felber
 * URL : www.policyd-weight.org
 * License : GPL-2+
   Section : mail

Changes:

  * Add 10_replace_net_dns_dn_expand.patch which replaces Net::DNS::Packet
function dh_expand() with dh_expand_PP() (Closes: #752845)
  * Fixed description in 09_fix_net_dns_usage.patch

It builds those binary packages:
policyd-weight - Perl policy daemon for the Postfix MTA

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/policyd-weight

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/policyd-weight/policyd-weight_0.1.15.2-6.dsc

It would be great if you could upload this package for me.

Cheers,
Werner Detter

Hi everybody,
hi Jan,

Changes since the last upload:

  * Updating standards version to 3.9.5
  * Add 09_fix_net_dns_usage.patch which fixes infinite loop when dns resolver
is reachable only via IPv6 (Closes: #726670)
  * debian/control added dependency on libio-socket-inet6-perl

I've updated Standards already to 3.9.5 as PTS is telling me already to do so:

Yes .. but .. Josh states:

 /etc/init.d/skeleton is wrong; only sysvinit's own internal scripts
 should use vars.sh directly. Other scripts should source
 /lib/lsb/init-functions and use the log_* functions.

Yes tag was premature and deactivated BUT will it be reenabled if
/etc/init.d/skeleton is fixed? I can take it back in - no problem
- but then i get the mentioned lintian-warning
init.d-script-call-internal-API so what to do here now?

Right, there is a problem somewhere but this needs to be fixed
before, in my understanding.

Probably, as soon as there is a solution for the actual issue.

 I can take it back in - no problem

I left it in in a script of mine and just ignored the lintian
warning, knowing that it will go away as soon as someone finds the
time to upload lintian.

Given that the init script doesn't use any of the variables from vars.sh
there is no reason to use an interface that is now deprecated to do
nothing, so I agree that taking this line out is the right thing to do.

The 'waiting for a fix' part is only relvaant if your script actually _is_
using those vars, IMHO.

So I'll upload as-is.

Subject: RFS - policyd-weight/0.1.15.2-6

Hi everybody,
hi Jan,

I've created a new version of my package policyd-weight. This version
just adds a patch which fixes problems with policyd-weight on
installations where only IPv6 resolvers (fixed DNS::Net usage).
Furthermore I've added a dependency on libio-socket-inet6-perl.

 * Package name: policyd-weight
   Version : 0.1.15.2-6
   Upstream Author : Robert Felber
 * URL : www.policyd-weight.org
 * License : GPL-2+
   Section : mail

Changes since the last upload:

  * Updating standards version to 3.9.5
* Add 09_fix_net_dns_usage.patch which fixes infinite loop when dns
resolver
is reachable only via IPv6 (Closes: #726670)
  * debian/control added dependency on libio-socket-inet6-perl

I've updated Standards already to 3.9.5 as PTS is telling me already to
do so:
http://packages.qa.debian.org/p/policyd-weight.html

It builds those binary packages:
policyd-weight - Perl policy daemon for the Postfix MTA

I would love to see this go.
Why is nobody interested in sponsoring this upload?

Hi Arno,

 did you try to contact your previous sponsors? Could you reach Hauke?

Not yet, I will try to contact them and get back to this thread if none
of the previous sponsor has time for an upload.

 This version includes a little bugfix and updates standard versions from
 3.9.2 to 3.9.3. Hence I'm looking for a sponsor for my package
 policyd-weight

 You don't try to get this into Testing, do you? I haven't looked at your
 package yet, but this does not sound like something which is targeting
 Testing at this stage. That's fine, of course, just telling you.

Thanks for the RFS bug workflow hint. The severity of this upload is normal so
it probably won't hit testing. It's not an RC fix.

Bye,

Also, I'm busy with other packages, and did that last upload

It would really help if someone else could also be the

The sponsoring game in Debian is a game of patience[1]. Sending an email
every two days telling you are waiting for an upload doesn't do much
more than annoy the very few people that are keen on sponsoring
packages.

Just be patient, and your turn will come. If your package isn't uploaded
in three or four weeks, then do send an other email to remind people.

Better yet, file a bug against the sponsorship-requests pseudo-package,
so that your request doesn't fall through the cracks. Documentation for
this is available at http://wiki.debian.org/Mentors/BTS.

Cheers,

Nicolas Dandrimont

[1] For my first sponsored upload, I waited for ~2 months for a reply on
the list, and when the package was finally upload, it waited in NEW for
~6 months (during the squeeze freeze). Yet I'm still here enjoying
Debian and the sponsor now reviews the packages directly. Don't give up!

Hi!

I am not DD/DM, but probably, IMO, you can change the debian/rules. See
http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/dreq.en.html 4.4.2 Default rules
file.

You can change the file to something like

%:
dh $@

and include some extra files, like policyd-weight.manpages,...

Is only a comment.

2012-02-16 Thread Werner Detter
Hi,

 The sponsoring game in Debian is a game of patience[1]. Sending an email
 every two days telling you are waiting for an upload doesn't do much
 more than annoy the very few people that are keen on sponsoring
 packages.

It's not my first sponsored upload but the second one. The first one is already
in stable, this is just a small update. The other side of the view is - I'm
pretty new in officially packaging stuff for debian. So a new wannabe maintainer
is motivated and wants to get things fixed. On the other hand - the package is
uploaded since weeks, nobody replies on the RFS's - and so not only the DD get's
annoyed but also me because just nothing happens.

In fact it's not the 10th try as suggested by the subject. This was just for
getting attention purposes.

 Just be patient, and your turn will come. If your package isn't uploaded
 in three or four weeks, then do send an other email to remind people.

I've uploaded the package three weeks ago.

 Better yet, file a bug against the sponsorship-requests pseudo-package,
 so that your request doesn't fall through the cracks. Documentation for
 this is available at http://wiki.debian.org/Mentors/BTS.

thanks for the hint.

Cheers,
Werner

Hi,

 The sponsoring game in Debian is a game of patience[1].

As the process is pretty new and I'm not (yet) familiar with normal time
slots for
sponsored uploads this is something learned. Thomas helped me a lot for which
I'm
really grateful, working with him is fun and it went fast. I've probably
expected
the same (fast) process for the next upload without him as he's currently busy.
Sorry for noise caused on the list and hopefully I'll find a second sponsor. The
time will come :)

Cheers,
Werner

Dear mentors,

I've recreated a new version of my package policyd-weight (previous version

uploaded to unstable. This version includes another bugfix, delivers the
/etc/default/policyd-weight

   Version : 0.1.15.2-2
   Upstream Author : Robert Felber
 * URL : www.policyd-weight.org

It builds those binary packages:

To access further information about this package, please visit the following

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Re: RFS: policyd-weight (3rd)

2012-01-06 Thread werner
Hi Thomas,

thanks for your helpfull comments.

 What was in /etc/default/policyd-weight? Why aren't you using
 it anymore?

It behaves like the current package in unstable/testing/stable.
The file /etc/default/policyd-weight isn't created but the init
script takes account of it.

/etc/default/policyd-weight is the place to add daemon-options for
policyd-weight.

What should we do here? Generate the file? Or don't take account of
it in the init script?

 Your package seems using /var/run/policyd-weight/, but where
 exactly is that folder created? Shouldn't an mkdir -p be added
 to your init.d script? What is the use of /var/run/policyd-weight
 by the way?

The creation of this directory is done by policyd-weight, so no need
to create it via the init-script. Policyd-weight uses this directory
for saving the PID and furthermore creates some more directories in
/var/run/policyd-weight (for caching etc.). It behaves like the current
policyd-weight in unstable/testing/stable.

Thank you and best regards,
Werner Detter

 Apart from that, I think the package is nicely improved, and
 would deserve to be uploaded.

 Thomas

to /etc/default/policyd-weight ?

Thank you,

typically you would put it in debian/policyd-weight and install it
through dh_install(1).

I'd add a file there, with lots of comments, and all the options that
you can put in it. It doesn't mater if absolutely every options are
commented out, the point is to document what can be done with
useful comments.

Maybe you can do that on your next upload?

 The creation of this directory is done by policyd-weight, so no need
 to create it via the init-script. Policyd-weight uses this directory
 for saving the PID and furthermore creates some more directories in
 /var/run/policyd-weight (for caching etc.). It behaves like the current
 policyd-weight in unstable/testing/stable.

Cool !

Since all the points I've asked you about have been addressed, I have

Mark fixed a bug in dak which produced your faulty error message. The
problem was the cryptic error, the rationale for being thrown however
was not. Apparently there is something completely wrong on Thomas'
system regarding the system time.

dak rejected the upload because of bad timestamps in the binary package.

[14:51] mhy that line is looking for files with really bad timestamps
which causes a reject - it's just that it failed to explain why it was
rejected due to the bug

Re: RFS: policyd-weight (3rd)

2012-01-06 Thread werner
Hi again,

I do have another question left.

I've just discovered that there are some files left in the debian directory
after package
creation, e.g.

debian/files
debian/policyd-weight.*
debian/policyd-weight.*.debhelper
debian/*.dephelper.log
debian/policyd-weight/

As source packages should not contain files like debian/files. I've enabled
Debugging via
DH_VERBOSE=1 and I do see that dh_clean is deleting those files pretty much at
the beginning
of package-creation.

-- cut --
debian/rules clean
dh_testdir
dh_testroot
dh_clean
rm -f debian/policyd-weight.substvars
rm -f debian/policyd-weight.*.debhelper
rm -rf debian/policyd-weight/
rm -f debian/*.debhelper.log
rm -f debian/files
find .  \( \( -type f -a \
\( -name '#*#' -o -name '.*~' -o -name '*~' -o -name DEADJOE \
 -o -name '*.orig' -o -name '*.rej' -o -name '*.bak' \
 -o -name '.*.orig' -o -name .*.rej -o -name '.SUMS' \
 -o -name TAGS -o \( -path '*/.deps/*' -a -name '*.P' \) \
\) -exec rm -f {} \; \) -o \
\( -type d -a -name autom4te.cache -prune -exec rm -rf {} \; \)
\)
rm -f *-stamp
-- cut --

So as those files are just deleted at the beginning of the package and
afterwards are recreated
through the build process. I'm not sure if

a) it's ok that the files reside in the debian directory ?
b) I missed a dh_clean (or pedant) somewhere ?
c) I have to delete those manually?

Thank you,
Werner Detter

I didn't actually try your source package, but it looks feasible. These
files are created by a regular build process and entirely typical for a
debhelper based workflow. Every temporary file in debian YOU don't
create during build but debhelper is being cleaned by dh_clean. So, as
long as you call dh_clean in your clean target, you do not need to worry
about it.

You will find them after every build attempt of your binary packages. As
long as they do not appear in the resulting source package (which they
won't, if you made everything right), all is good.

Clean the build tree manually if you're worried about them (e.g. call
fakeroot debian/rules clean). dpkg-buildpackage will do so

Hi Ansgar,

 And the version with unpatch and the include removed? From the error I
 suspect you moved the dh_testdir one line up behind the clean.

 With:

 # include /usr/share/quilt/quilt.make
 # clean: unpatch
 clean: dh_testdir
 dh_testroot
 dh_clean build-stamp

 That is wrong. dh_testdir is not a prerequsite, but part of the recipe
 (the shell commands run for the target).

I've already fixed that - the package is done, lintian clean and is waiting
for a sponsored upload :) Please check the latest Version of the package:

* Package name: policyd-weight
   Version : 0.1.15.2-1
   Upstream Author : Robert Felber
 * URL : www.policyd-weight.org
 * License : GPL-2+
   Section : mail

It builds those binary packages:

policyd-weight - Perl policy daemon for the Postfix MTA

To access further information about this package, please visit the following

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x

Hi !

If you put dh_testdir on the same line as the clean:,
then it will *not* be considered as a command, but as
a dependency of the clean target.

In other words, you should write:

clean:
dh_testdir

and not:

clean: dh_testdir

I hope that helps,

Using dh_testroot in binary* targets is certainly a good idea. It
usually takes significant amount of time to run these targets and they
always do require (fake)root privileges, so it's better to fail early if
the target was accidentally run as normal user.

However, this is not the case for the clean target: it's usually not
time-consuming, and there's a good chance that it runs correctly even
without (fake)root privileges.

Your debian/init.d script shouldn't set the PATH at all.
All the folders it is putting in PATH are already accessible
in the default $PATH, so don't change it.

What was in /etc/default/policyd-weight? Why aren't you using
it anymore?

Your package seems using /var/run/policyd-weight/, but where
exactly is that folder created? Shouldn't an mkdir -p be added
to your init.d script? What is the use of /var/run/policyd-weight
by the way?

Apart from that, I think the package is nicely improved, and
would deserve to be uploaded.

Why do you list temporary files in debian/source/include-binaries? They
should be removed by the clean target (dh_clean).

Keeping dh_testdir in the clean target also should not hurt.

There also is an empty directory debian/patched which is not needed (I

Hi,

Since I might be interested in using this software, I had
a quick look to the packaging. I've noticed some issues
that are remaining. Ansgar, feel free to correct me if you
don't agree with my remarks!

* Please run lintian with the options -Ii -E --pedantic so it
will show you more issues (like spelling mistakes in the
man pages, etc.). I wont details them here, since Lintian
does it better than me! :)

* Your debian/copyright doesn't mention yourself, I think
you should add yourself in the Files: debian/*. The
debian/copyright is also badly formatted, and generally
speaking seems to be using a very old definition of the
DEP5 specifications. It'd be great if you could update that.

* The debian/init.d script doesn't use lsb-base for printing
messages. Please switch to it (and depend on lsb-base) and
replace the echoes. Also, the set -e should be (IMHO) set
earlier in the script. As a bonus point, use the default in
/lib/init/vars.sh with something like that:

. /lib/init/vars.sh
. /lib/lsb/init-functions

case $1 in
  start)
[ $VERBOSE != no ]  log_daemon_msg Starting $DESC $NAME

* debian/postinst does some checkings against version
0.1.14-beta-3, yet, version 0.1.14.17-5 is in ole-stable,
meaning that right now, you will always get the same
result. It'd be great, IMO, to fix this, and remove the
tests and all, since you already know the result of them.

By the way, since the package is already in Debian, I
think it would be fine to have it uploaded without the
above fixes, and fix that on the next upload.

I hope that helps,
Cheers,

Thomas

Re: RFS: policyd-weight

2011-12-29 Thread werner
Dear Ansgar,

thanks for your helpfull reply. I have some more questions.

 From d/changelog:

 ++  * New upstream release
 ++- (Closes: #641227)

 The second line misses something behind the dash.
Changed.

 There is a debian/.pc directory which should not be there.
Removed.

 You should mention that the package has a new maintainer and close the
 bug indicating that the package is orphaned (#612734).
Done.

 debian/changelog has trailing whitespace.
Removed.

 debian/README.source is not necessary for packages using a standard
 format like 3.0 (quilt). You also do not need to build-depend on quilt.
Deleted the file, mentioned it in debian/changelog. If I remove the build-
depend on quilt lintian throws me:
E: policyd-weight source: missing-build-dependency quilt

 A note at the beginning of patches indicating the reason and author for
 the change would be nice.
Hm, how do i add comments with quilt to existing patches. Can i directly
edit the patches or is there another way/tool for it?

 From debian/rules:

 +include /usr/share/quilt/quilt.make
 +build-stamp: $(QUILT_STAMPFN)
  clean: unpatch
I had to leave the line include /usr/share/quilt/quilt.make otherwise
the package build fails.

 These are not needed when using the 3.0 (quilt) source format.

 From the package description in debian/control:
 Its intended - It is intended or policyd-weight is intended.
Fixed.

 The Vcs-* fields in debian/control are probably no longer current.
 Please update or remove them.
Removed.

I've reuploaded the package.

Thank you and best regards,
Werner Detter

Re: RFS: policyd-weight

2011-12-29 Thread werner
Hi,

I've added comments to my quilt patches and reuploaded the source package.
So there is stuff left:

 +include /usr/share/quilt/quilt.make
 +build-stamp: $(QUILT_STAMPFN)
  clean: unpatch
 I had to leave the line include /usr/share/quilt/quilt.make otherwise
 the package build fails.

 With what error? I guess you did not remove the unpatch dependency for
 the clean target (it's still in the new package)?

 That's right. After i removed the unpatch dep for the clean target I get:

 debian/rules clean
 make: *** No rule to make target `dh_testdir', needed by `clean'. Stop.

 Ok, I've also removed dh_testdir and get:

 debian/rules clean
 make: *** No rule to make target `dh_testroot', needed by `clean'. Stop.

 and so on :( So something is wrong and i currently don't know what.

Any help here is appreciated.

Thank you,
Werner Detter

 debian/README.source is not necessary for packages using a standard
 format like 3.0 (quilt). You also do not need to build-depend on quilt.
 Deleted the file, mentioned it in debian/changelog. If I remove the build-
 depend on quilt lintian throws me:
 E: policyd-weight source: missing-build-dependency quilt

That is probably triggered by the include you still have.

 A note at the beginning of patches indicating the reason and author for
 the change would be nice.
 Hm, how do i add comments with quilt to existing patches. Can i directly
 edit the patches or is there another way/tool for it?

You can just edit them and write something to the beginning or use quilt
header -e with the patch you want to comment on top.

There is also a standard format for comments:
http://dep.debian.net/deps/dep3/

I especially find references to bug reports useful when looking at
patches at a later time.

Ansgar

With:

I get:

seems like this entry in debian/rules fixed it :)

clean:
rm -fr debian/files
dh_clean

Furthermore I've uploaded the rebuild package to mentors.debian.net, so here's
the RFS: the package again.

 * Package name: policyd-weight
   Version : 0.1.15.2-1
   Upstream Author : Robert Felber
 * URL : www.policyd-weight.org
 * License : GPL-2+
   Section : mail

It builds those binary packages:

policyd-weight - Perl policy daemon for the Postfix MTA

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/policyd-weight

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/policyd-weight/policyd-weight_0.1.15.2-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Best regards,

dh_clean does remove debian/files, you don't need that explicit rm -fr.
