Given that the init script doesn't use any of the variables from vars.sh there is no reason to use an interface that is now deprecated to do nothing, so I agree that taking this line out is the right thing to do. The 'waiting for a fix' part is only relvaant if your script actually _is_ using those vars, IMHO. So I'll upload as-is. Furthermore I've added a dependency on libio-socket-inet6-perl. * Package name: policyd-weight Version : 0.1.15.2-6 Upstream Author : Robert Felber * URL : www.policyd-weight.org * License : GPL-2+ Section : mail Changes since the last upload: * Add 09_fix_net_dns_usage.patch which fixes infinite loop when dns resolver is reachable only via IPv6 (Closes: #726670) * debian/control added dependency on libio-socket-inet6-perl It builds those binary packages: policyd-weight - Perl policy daemon for the Postfix MTA To access further information about this package, please visit the following URL: http://mentors.debian.net/package/policyd-weight Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command: dget -x http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/policyd-weight/policyd-weight_0.1.15.2-6.dsc It would be great if you could upload this package for me. Not yet, I will try to contact them and get back to this thread if none of the previous sponsor has time for an upload. I haven't looked at your package yet, but this does not sound like something which is targeting Testing at this stage. That's fine, of course, just telling you. Thanks for the RFS bug workflow hint. Hi, The sponsoring game in Debian is a game of patience[1]. Sending an email every two days telling you are waiting for an upload doesn't do much more than annoy the very few people that are keen on sponsoring packages. It's not my first sponsored upload but the second one. The first one is already in stable, this is just a small update. The other side of the view is - I'm pretty new in officially packaging stuff for debian. So a new wannabe maintainer is motivated and wants to get things fixed. On the other hand - the package is uploaded since weeks, nobody replies on the RFS's - and so not only the DD get's annoyed but also me because just nothing happens. In fact it's not the 10th try as suggested by the subject. This was just for getting attention purposes. Just be patient, and your turn will come. If your package isn't uploaded in three or four weeks, then do send an other email to remind people. I've uploaded the package three weeks ago. Better yet, file a bug against the sponsorship-requests pseudo-package, so that your request doesn't fall through the cracks. Hi, The sponsoring game in Debian is a game of patience[1]. As the process is pretty new and I'm not (yet) familiar with normal time slots for sponsored uploads this is something learned. Thomas helped me a lot for which I'm really grateful, working with him is fun and it went fast. I've probably expected the same (fast) process for the next upload without him as he's currently busy. Sorry for noise caused on the list and hopefully I'll find a second sponsor. Hi Ansgar, sorry that I could not look at your package even after I said that I would earlier, but I did not have enough free time. But it was uploaded in the end anyway :) No problem - I've just fixed another bug (#641538) in my local packet. Re: RFS: policyd-weight (3rd)
Hi Thomas, thanks for your helpfull comments. What was in /etc/default/policyd-weight? Why aren't you using it anymore? It behaves like the current package in unstable/testing/stable. The file /etc/default/policyd-weight isn't created but the init script takes account of it. /etc/default/policyd-weight is the place to add daemon-options for policyd-weight. What should we do here? Generate the file? Or don't take account of it in the init script? Your package seems using /var/run/policyd-weight/, but where exactly is that folder created? Shouldn't an mkdir -p be added to your init.d script? What is the use of /var/run/policyd-weight by the way? The creation of this directory is done by policyd-weight, so no need to create it via the init-script. Policyd-weight uses this directory for saving the PID and furthermore creates some more directories in /var/run/policyd-weight (for caching etc.). It behaves like the current policyd-weight in unstable/testing/stable. Thank you and best regards, Werner Detter Apart from that, I think the package is nicely improved, and would deserve to be uploaded. Re: RFS: policyd-weight (3rd)
Hi again, I do have another question left. I've just discovered that there are some files left in the debian directory after package creation, e.g. debian/files debian/policyd-weight.* debian/policyd-weight.*.debhelper debian/*.dephelper.log debian/policyd-weight/ As source packages should not contain files like debian/files. Hi Arno, a) it's ok that the files reside in the debian directory ? b) I missed a dh_clean (or pedant) somewhere ? c) I have to delete those manually? I didn't actually try your source package, but it looks feasible. These files are created by a regular build process and entirely typical for a debhelper based workflow. You will find them after every build attempt of your binary packages. As long as they do not appear in the resulting source package (which they won't, if you made everything right), all is good. I see, i was a little confused but your explanation made things clear to me. Thank you. Would linitian complain e.g. for example about those files? Clean the build tree manually if you're worried about them (e.g. call fakeroot debian/rules clean). dpkg-buildpackage will do so automatically prior to build your package. I just ran fakeroot debian/rules clean after the build process, all files are gone. Thanks for your patience help and for answering my (maybe silly) questions! Hi Ansgar, And the version with unpatch and the include removed? From the error I suspect you moved the dh_testdir one line up behind the clean. With: # include /usr/share/quilt/quilt.make # clean: unpatch clean: dh_testdir dh_testroot dh_clean build-stamp That is wrong. dh_testdir is not a prerequsite, but part of the recipe (the shell commands run for the target). Their use is certainly not mandatory. In case of the clean target, it could be argued that dh_testroot does more harm than good. Using dh_testroot in binary* targets is certainly a good idea. It usually takes significant amount of time to run these targets and they always do require (fake)root privileges, so it's better to fail early if the target was accidentally run as normal user. However, this is not the case for the clean target: it's usually not time-consuming, and there's a good chance that it runs correctly even without (fake)root privileges. -- Jakub Wilk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-mentors-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi again :) Best is to create a patch, include it in your Debian package, and forward that patch to upstream so he can have his manpage fixed upstream as well (so you will later remove the debian-specific patch). Re: RFS: policyd-weight
Dear Ansgar, thanks for your helpfull reply. I have some more questions. From d/changelog: ++ * New upstream release ++- (Closes: #641227) The second line misses something behind the dash. Changed. There is a debian/.pc directory which should not be there. Removed. You should mention that the package has a new maintainer and close the bug indicating that the package is orphaned (#612734). Done. debian/changelog has trailing whitespace. Removed. debian/README.source is not necessary for packages using a standard format like 3.0 (quilt). You also do not need to build-depend on quilt. Deleted the file, mentioned it in debian/changelog. If I remove the build- depend on quilt lintian throws me: E: policyd-weight source: missing-build-dependency quilt A note at the beginning of patches indicating the reason and author for the change would be nice. Hm, how do i add comments with quilt to existing patches. Can i directly edit the patches or is there another way/tool for it? From debian/rules: +include /usr/share/quilt/quilt.make +build-stamp: $(QUILT_STAMPFN) clean: unpatch I had to leave the line include /usr/share/quilt/quilt.make otherwise the package build fails. These are not needed when using the 3.0 (quilt) source format. From the package description in debian/control: Its intended - It is intended or policyd-weight is intended. Fixed. The Vcs-* fields in debian/control are probably no longer current. Please update or remove them. Removed. I've reuploaded the package. Re: RFS: policyd-weight
Hi, I've added comments to my quilt patches and reuploaded the source package. So there is stuff left: +include /usr/share/quilt/quilt.make +build-stamp: $(QUILT_STAMPFN) clean: unpatch I had to leave the line include /usr/share/quilt/quilt.make otherwise the package build fails. With what error? I guess you did not remove the unpatch dependency for the clean target (it's still in the new package)? That's right. After i removed the unpatch dep for the clean target I get: debian/rules clean make: *** No rule to make target `dh_testdir', needed by `clean'. Stop. Ok, I've also removed dh_testdir and get: debian/rules clean make: *** No rule to make target `dh_testroot', needed by `clean'.
