The dget url for premake is different now. I took out the extra revisions
where I was fixing minor things.
So now it is 3.7-1, instead of 3.7-4.

RFS: premake

2010-08-14 Thread James Goppert
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package premake.

* Package name: premake
  Version : 3.7-4
Upstream Author : Jason Perkins http://industriousone.com/contact
* URL : http://premake.sourceforge.net/
* License : GPL v2
  Section : devel

It builds these binary packages:
premake- A build script generator.

The package appears to be lintian clean.

My motivation for maintaining this package is: It is a dependency of delta3d,
which I would like to also package.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/premake
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable
main contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/premake/premake_3.7-4.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.
If you would like to sponsor this packaged please
CC: james.gopp...@gmail.com when you reply.

Kind regards
 James Goppert

Hi James,

I'm not sure to understand really what your package will do but anyway there's
problem with your packaging. You must run lintian after make your package !
It gaves theses errors/warning easy to fix :
W: premake source: out-of-date-standards-version 3.8.0 (current is 3.9.1)

debian policy numbre is now 3.9.1

W: premake: wrong-bug-number-in-closes l21:#XX

Put the right number

W: premake: extra-license-file usr/share/doc/premake/LICENSE.txt.gz
W: premake: binary-without-manpage usr/bin/premake
W: premake: old-fsf-address-in-copyright-file
The new address is :nbsp; 51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA

E: premake: copyright-file-contains-full-gpl-license
Only put necessary paras !

W: premake: copyright-has-url-from-dh_make-boilerplate
put the right url for download

Thanks. The package is just a build program, like make. I'm trying to build
these packages on lenny. Guess that 's why my lintian didn't give those
errors. I guess I'll have to run a sid virtual machine or something since
taking my network to sid isn't an option.

First, make sure you are running lintian against the .changes file, not
against the .deb(s). That way, it can issue warnings for the source packaging
and mismatches between the source packages and the binary packages.

Second, most packages submitted to Debian should be built on a clean Sid
(unstable) system, since they will be entering the archives there and because
it is policy.

Third, pbuilder (and variants like cowbuilder) make it very easy to build,
maintain, and use a chroot environment for building packages and there are
fairly well-documented ways of running your lintian test from within that
chroot as well.

Forth, the dependencies for the lintian package in sid can usually be
satisfied with packages from current stable. When that's true you can use a
(dpkg -i) run or modify your sources.list (adding Sid) and preferences files
(pinning most of Sid to 99 or less, and lintian in Sid to 991 or more) to
install Sid's lintian on a stable system.

Fifth, thanks for the package, I hope you can clean it up and get it in
Debian.

premake whose software is in Debian.

For what it is worth (not very much, I suspect), I disagree that being
a build dependency for a Debian package is the only valid reason to
include a tool in Debian. I, like many others use Debian as a software
development platform. Having a good set of development tools is a big
selling feature for me.

I suspect there are other reasons why no-one has volunteered to review
Kaido's package, mainly the (non)-release of Lenny, and lua not being
as well known as other scripting languages.

Cheers,

David

I checked apt-file for any premake.lua files and found none, which
might mean that there are no packages in debian using premake or
simply that the devs dont include the scripts in source distros ( like
they often dont include autotools autogen/bootstrap scripts ) and just
ship the generated makefiles.
Koders.com query and general googling will turn up lots, though.
Its also kind of a chicken and an egg problem. Its difficult to have
software built for debian using premake directly if you cant simply
tag your package to depend on premake and use it for building.

lua not being as well known as other scripting languages.
:) Depends, its widely used by game developers, and the list of apps
that use it as customization and scripting language is rather long.

-kert

Just to point out, Premake is one of the few crossplatform build tools

similar alternative is CMake.
