RFS: screenkey - utility to display pressed keys in screencasts
Dear Debian Developers, I am looking for a sponsor for my package screenkey. It is a screencasting tool to display the pressed keys in a very nice configurable banner on the screen. You can see it in action, in this video http://youtu.be/aLtIvEiDD2k?t=2m1s I just found one other tool in the debian repositories (can't remember the name), but it differs from screenkey in the way, that it just displays Ctrl,Shift and mouse clicks. Screenkey looks much more modern and displays all pressed Keys, so that combinations like Alt+F2 chromium ⏎ are displayed. Since multimedia support in debian has improved a lot in the last months (due to great work by the multimedia team with supporting encoding of codec formats like H264, VP8 and MP3) I think it is now time to create howtos and tutorials in form of screencast. Screenkey can improve the quality of these videos, which are then a good way to promote for debian. This is my third attempt in finding a sponsor on the mentors ml. I already put much time and work in packaging (I am still happy if someone sees ways to improve it, though), so hope that a DD will upload it for me. .:: Further information ::. === * Package name: screenkey Version : 0.2-1 Upstream Author : Pablo Seminario pabluk at gmail.com * URL : http://launchpad.net/screenkey * License : GPLv3 Section : video Language: python/pygtk It builds the binary package: screenkey .:: URLS ::. mentors.d.n: http://mentors.debian.net/package/screenkey dget: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/s/screenkey/screenkey_0.2-1.dsc git VCS: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-multimedia/screenkey.git;a=summary Best regards, -- eshat cakar web: www.eshat.de gpg-id: 799B 95D5 signature.asc Description: PGP signature

This depends on python-gtk2, which has been obsoleted upstream by python-gobject and the GObject introspection therein: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnome.gtk%2B.python/15449 -- bye, pabs http://wiki.debian.org/PaulWise -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-mentors-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. * Paul Wise p...@debian.org [111007 16:46]: This depends on python-gtk2, which has been obsoleted upstream by python-gobject and the GObject introspection therein: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnome.gtk%2B.python/15449 Given that python-gobject with gtk support is not yet available in squeeze (not even in backports) and PyGObject's online documentation recommends to use python-gobject only with gtk3 as GTK2 still has a lot of breakage with PyGI, I can imagine that upstreams might yet not be very comfortable to port their applications. Thus this obsoletion indicate that one should look for active upstreams or otherwise might likely end up with some work in the future. But nothing else yet. Please let me know if anything of the above is not correct. Bernhard R. Link -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-mentors-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Eshat Cakar i...@eshat.de writes: You can see it in action, in this video http://youtu.be/aLtIvEiDD2k?t=2m1s Great video, cheers! I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me. While I can't help you with uploading, I glanced over the packaging, and would like to comment on a few bits and pieces (ie, my usual pedantic, cosmetic nitpickings): * upstream README You include the upstream README in the packaging, but it does not contain any useful information for an end-user: it tells one how to install and run the package, and the license. When installed from Debian, installation instructions post-install time are not useful, and the license is described in the copyright file aswell. The rest, in the package's long description. So, I'd remove this file from the debian binary, on the grounds that it serves no useful purpose there. * debian/rules 'tis not a sample file anymore! tsk, tsk! But other than this, the packaging looks solid. Well done! (If someone could sponsor it, that would be great. I actually had this package on my play with it when it enters sid list, and it's on the top of that list now. /me wants to play!) -- |8] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-mentors-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Thanks for the review Gergely, Great video, cheers! Kudos go to upstream(ubuntu) for the video. * upstream README You include the upstream README in the packaging, but it does not contain any useful information for an end-user removed. * debian/rules 'tis not a sample file anymore! tsk, tsk! cleaned up. I additionally added alioth git repositories. And did some other fixing, as you can see on http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/screenkey.git;a=summary Best regards, -- eshat cakar web: www.eshat.de gpg-id: 799B 95D5 signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
