RFS: tkgate (updated package)

2009-01-25 Thread أحمد المحمودي
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the new version 2.0~b4-1
of my package tkgate.

It builds these binary packages:
tkgate - Tcl/Tk based digital circuit editor and simulator
tkgate-data - Tcl/Tk based digital circuit editor and simulator
tkgate-doc - Tcl/Tk based digital circuit editor and simulator

The package appears to be lintian clean.

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/tkgate
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/tkgate/tkgate_2.0~b4-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Hi Ahmed!

What about bug #474496? Is it fixed?

 It builds these binary packages:
tkgate - Tcl/Tk based digital circuit editor and simulator
tkgate-data - Tcl/Tk based digital circuit editor and simulator
tkgate-doc - Tcl/Tk based digital circuit editor and simulator

Is the fact that tkgate is using Tcl/Tk important enough to be included
in the short description? For an end-user software, this is usually not
the case: don't say that a software is written in Python or is using QT
as toolkit.

About your lintian override for tree.tcl, you can also patch the file to
remove the she-bang. But a lintian override is valid for me.

uscan does not find the version you are packaging. You should update it
to let him find the correction version. I think that you will have to
use mangling options too.

The package looks fine otherwise.

Yes it is indeed. I will put that in the changelog.

 Ok, fixed.

Short discription should not start with a capital. For tkgate-doc and
tkgate-data, you could append something like - documentation and -
data files, even if this is obvious from the package name.

uscan does not find the version you are packaging. You should update it

Newest version on remote site is 2.0-a11, local version is 2.0~a11.dfsg.1
 (mangled local version number 2.0~a11)

You need to transform - to ~ (or the other way) too. You can use
uscan --report --verbose to check yourself.

BTW, there are still images generated by povray: the splash screen,
about dialog and at top right in the main interface. After reading the
thread in debian-legal, here is my opinion: source of images are
provided in the prefered form (povray sources) and since resulting
images are already shipped, you don't need povray to compile them. I
would say that DFSG are respected and the package respects the
conditions to be in main. It is a pretty weak argumentation and only
ftp-master can tell if they agree with it or not.

Maybe you should do the following: keep povray sources into orig.tar.gz,
add a notice about the problem in debian/copyright (e.g Some images are
generated using povray which is currently not present in main. Source
for those images are in povray/ directory) and upload the package into
main. ftp-master will tell us if they think that images should be
compiled from source with software in main.

Or you could choose to replace those images with some others.

Thanks.

A couple of should be fixed I noticed while looking at your diff.gz:

- You removed stuff from the orig.tar.gz, so you should rename the
  tarball, too. E.g. to tkgate_2.0.dfsg.1~a11-1.orig.tar.gz
  - A get-orig-source rule would be nice
- You build depend on debhelper = 6..., but your debian/compat is set to 5. I
think that's wrong, since you either should set debian/compat to 6 or
don't need to build depends in debhelper = 6.
(Somebody please correct me, if that's untrue; I'm not entirely sure.)

Oh, and you should have retitled the bug to RFA to indicate, that you
want to adopt the package and set the owner of the bug report to
yourself.

Yours sincerely,
  Alexander
