Bug#1068436: RFS: transmission/4.0.5-1.2 [NMU] [RC] -- lightweight BitTorrent client

2024-04-05 Thread Alexandre Rossi
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: important

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for the package "transmission":

 * Package name : transmission
   Version  : 4.0.5-1.2
 * URL  : https://transmissionbt.com/
 * License  : GPL-3 or LGPL-2.1, ISC, Expat, GPL-2, GPL-3,
public-domain, BSD-3-clause, GPL-2+-OpenSSL, Zlib, GPL
 * Vcs  : https://salsa.debian.org/debian/transmission
   Section  : net

The source builds the following binary packages:

  transmission - lightweight BitTorrent client
  transmission-common - lightweight BitTorrent client (common files)
  transmission-cli - lightweight BitTorrent client (command line programs)
  transmission-gtk - lightweight BitTorrent client (GTK+ interface)
  transmission-qt - lightweight BitTorrent client (Qt interface)
  transmission-daemon - lightweight BitTorrent client (daemon)

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

Alternatively, you can download the package with 'dget' using this command:

  dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/transmission/transmission_4.0.5-1.2.dsc

Changes since the last upload:

 transmission (4.0.5-1.2) unstable; urgency=medium

   * build webapp from source (Closes: #1041519)
   * fix build on bookworm
 .
   [ Sandro Tosi ]
   * remove myself from this package maintainership

I have not been able to get feedback from the maintainers and I feel they lack
time or interest in the package. My fix has been provided as a PR[1] for a
couple
of weeks now.

As I am a user and a DM, I could take over maintainance if that's wanted, or
provide any level of required support in that context.

lintian error note: my upload contains a lintian error source-is-missing and
source-ships-excluded-file. As this is a NMU, I chose not to change upstream
tarball and restrict to fixing the RC bug and FTBS in bookworm for backports.
Again, if I get ack from maintainers, I can prepare an upload cleaning up these.

New editor integrations for Debian packaging files (LSP support)

2024-04-05 Thread Niels Thykier

Hi

Sent to d-devel and d-mentors, since the members of both lists are the
target audience. If you reply, please consider whether both lists should
see the message (and prune the recipient list accordingly as necessary).

In response to a recent thread on debian-devel about editor support for
Debian packaging files, I have spend some time providing better
experience when working with Debian packaging files. Concretely, I have
added a Language Server (per LSP spec) to `debputy` that supports files
like "debian/control" and "debian/copyright" (machine readable variant
only).

With this language server and a LSP capable editor, you will get:

 * Online diagnostics (in editor linting result).
   - Instant gratification for common or simple errors. No need to wait
 for a package build to run `lintian`. Also, if `debputy` knows a
 solution, it will provide quick-fixes for the issue.

 * Online documentation ("hover docs") for relevant fields and values.
   - You do not have to remember what things mean nor context switch
 to look up documentation! It is served directly in your editor
 when you request it via your editors "hover doc" feature.

 * Context-based completion suggestions for known value or fields.
   - As an example, the completion will not suggest completion for a
 field already in the current stanza of debian/control (since
 that would lead to an error).

 * Automatic pruning of trailing white spaces!
   - If your editor supports the "on save" feature, the language server
 will trim away trailing white space in the Debian packaging files.
 (it is a small thing, but it is still one paper cut less!)

The diagnostics can also be used without the language server. Which can
be used for CI or when you do not have an LSP capable editor. It works
_without_ building the package first (unlike lintian) and it does have
an --auto-fix option (also, unlike lintian).
  On the other hand, the diagnotics/linter is not a replacement for
lintian. The `debputy` LSP/Linter is solely aimed at providing editor
support Debian packaging files, which is a much narrower scope than lintian.

For those interested, there are some screenshots from emacs with this
language server at: https://people.debian.org/~nthykier/lsp-screenshots/

As mentioned, any LSP capable editor should work. Which includes:
 * neovim
 * vim (with `vim-youcompleteme`)
 * atom/pulsar
 * VS Code (unsurpsingly, since Microsoft created the LSP spec)
 * Eclipse (via the `lsp4e` plugin)
 * ... and many other editors

# Getting started

To use these new features, you will need:

# Preferably, 0.1.26 (unstable)
# Though, dh-debputy/0.1.24 (testing) will do
$ apt install dh-debputy python3-lsprotocol python3-pygls

# If you want online spellchecking, then add:
$ apt install python3-hunspell hunspell-en-us

# Check if debputy has config glue suggestions for your editor
# - note: the output may contain additional editor specific
#   dependencies.
$ debputy lsp editor-config
$ debputy lsp editor-config EDITOR_NAME

# Once your editor is configured correctly, it should start the
# language server on its own when you open a relevant file.

# Using the diagnostics without the language server.
# - Check --help for additional features.
$ debputy lint

Additionally, for the editor features, you will need an LSP capable
editor and relevant editor configuration glue for said editor. The
`debputy lsp editor-config` command will list known editors and `debputy
lsp editor-config EDITOR` will provide an example editor glue. These
examples are maintained on a "best-effort" basis.

At the moment, `debputy` knows about `emacs` with `eglot` (built-in in
emacs/29) and `vim` with `vim-youcompleteme`. For other editors, you
will have to figure out the glue config - though, feel free to submit a
MR against the `debputy` repo, so others can benefit from it.

If you end up having to do your own editor config glue, you can start
the language server via `debputy lsp server` (check `--help` if you need
TCP or WS integration).

## Supported files

For the full list, please see `debputy lsp features`. The `diagnostics
(lint)` lines also explain where `debputy lint` has support.

Version 0.1.26 of dh-debputy adds support for `debian/tests/control`.
For `emacs`, the next version of dpkg-dev-el (RFS'ed in #1068427) is
also needed for `debian/tests/control` support.

# Future work

 * There will be bugs. Lots of bugs.
   - Issues and MRs are welcome at
 https://salsa.debian.org/debian/debputy/-/issues
   - BTS bugs (with or without patches) also work. 

 * There are lot more diagnostics that could be triggered. Feature
   requests welcome (see above).

 * Most of the hover documentation could probably use a review.

 * Most of the editor glue provided via `debputy lsp editor-config`
   should probably end up in packages somehow.

 * All this requires

Bug#1059643: RFS: wstroke/2.1-1 [ITP] -- Mouse gesture plugin for Wayfire.

2024-04-05 Thread Andrey Rakhmatullin
Control: tags -1 + moreinfo

Some issues found after a quick review:

- There are many issues listed by lintian such as outdated compat level,
  outdated Standards-Version, an issue with the short description, missing
  Rules-Requires-Root.
- There should be only one changelog entry, and in general changelog
  entries shouldn't list upstream changes.
- Why is the package directed to experimental?
- debian/copyright includes the same license texts several times instead
  of using common separate sections for them.
- debian/patches/series is empty but present.

Please remove the moreinfo tag after these are addressed.

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a mentor/sponsor for my package "photodedupe" please.

* Package name    : photodedupe
  Version : 1.0.1
  Upstream Author : LJ Bubb
* URL : https://github.com/InexplicableMagic/photodedupe
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: Rust
  Description : A utility for identifying duplicate images

Photodedupe is a command line utility for identifying duplicate photos in large
image collections, regardless of whether the images have been scaled or have
differing file formats. It compares the image content visually and does not
rely on metadata or file hashes to perform the de-duplication.

I have got as far as producing a lintian clean .deb installer, which is
available from my GitHub releases page:

https://github.com/InexplicableMagic/photodedupe/releases/tag/v1.0.1

I have filed an ITP which is here:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1064587

I am looking for advice as to what else may be required.

Thank You.

You need to provide a proper source package, not a dpkg-deb artifact.
Please open a new RFS when you have that.

Some problems I noticed after a short review:

- The package FTBFS: "E: pybuild pybuild:389: test: plugin distutils
  failed with: exit code=5: cd
  /<>/.pybuild/cpython3_3.11/build; python3.11 -m pytest".
- You should only have one changelog entry (also "Automated build" looks
  very suspicious there).
- Versioned (build-)depends on gzip and coreutils are satisfiable even in
  oldoldstable so they shouldn't be versioned.
- Standards-Version is outdated.
- rdw.conf going into both examples and /etc looks incorrect.
- Symlink stuff in postinst/postrm looks strange.
- /etc/rdiffweb seems to be created both during the package build and in
  postinst.

Note that some of these are detected by lintian and even shown on the
mentors page.
Please remove the moreinfo tag when these are addressed.

You should provide a separate -dev package, currently the development
files are shipped in the library package.
There is a hardcoded Depends: libkrb5-3, why is this needed?
There are unused files in debian/, such as libsmb2-dev.* and libsmb21.*.
You should remove the .la file instead of fixing it, unless something
needs it.
You shouldn't call dh_installexamples in override_dh_install.

Neither of these packages have salsa repositories under the debian group
yet. Could you please create these two repositories for me?

Please consider joining the Debian Python Team to maintain the packages.
You will have a much better experience asking the team for sponsorship.
sponsorship-requests is kind of the last ressort list.
In case you want to do that I am happy to sponsor the packages for you.
