Re: OOo packages and tasksel

2005-01-20 Thread Rene Engelhard
Hi,

Joey Hess wrote:
 - Remove openoffice.org (leaving -bin), and remove all OOo -help- and
-l10n- packages from all tasks. This is necessary because these packages
are available for all architectures, but have broken dependencies on
many architectures (openoffice.org-bin is only built on a few), which
breaks installation of the tasks of which they are a part on many
   architectures.

I thought you'd prodded me on irc about undoing the above change, but I just
looked and it still seems broken, for example openoffice.org-help-en is
arch all and depends on openoffice.org, which is arch all and depends on
openoffice.org-bin, which is only built on 4 architectures.

the -l10n-*'s were fixed. All the -help-* packages are comping from
separate source packages, therefore were not automatically changed with
that change and I forgot to update them separately then... (thanks for
the reminder, will do now.)

Bug#215841: Please modify PPD_PageSize value in /etc/openoffice/psprint.conf according to /etc/papersize

2005-01-24 Thread Rene Engelhard
Hi,

AKL. Mantas Kriauciunas wrote:
As upstream will never fix this bug in version 1.1.x it seems there is
only one way to make users happy - please modify PPD_PageSize (from
/etc/openoffice/psprint.conf) value according to /etc/papersize during
postinst and also make dpkg-reconfigure libpaper1 change not only
 /etc/papersize, but also /etc/openoffice/psprint.conf 's PPD_PageSize
 value.

Sorry, this is not possible:

/etc/openoffice/psprint.conf is a conffile. conffile modification is
FORBIDDEN by either maintainer scripts or another package. We would make
it no conffile to be able to do that and even then there is risk
something breaks. And doing package interactions like that is a *bit*
late...

In current situation users don't understand why reconfiguring libpaper1
doesn't change default paper format in openoffice.org

Just because it doesn't use libpaper. OOo 2.0 won't either but obey
LC_PAPAER environment variable and the default for !en_US is A4...

Bug#284487: Mention dialog option in /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-gtk-gnome/README.Debian

2005-01-27 Thread Rene Engelhard
Hi,

Michael R Head wrote:
Perhaps this could be mentioned in
 /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-gtk-gnome/README.Debian. That's the first
place I (and I think many/most people) go when a package doesn't seem to
 be working as expected.

It will be in /usr/share/openoffice.org/README.Debian with the next
openoffice.org-debian-files upload:
http://cvs.debian.org/oo-debian-files/doc/README.Debian.diff?r1=1.40r2=1.41diff_format=hcvsroot=debian-openoffice

Hmm. But yeah, maybe there should be a README.Debian there too. We would
do a symlink to the openoffice.org one since -gtk-gnome depends on
openoffice.org depends on openoffice.org-debian-files so there should be
no problem. I'll think about it.

Bug#293677: but gtk ui works?

2005-02-15 Thread Rene Engelhard
tag 293677 + moreinfo
thanks

Hi,

Jaap Haitsma wrote:
I for instance don't get a GTK file picker. I also tried setting
 OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome in /etc/openoffice/openoffice.conf

And the Gtk UIfication works? Then it is *no* bug. The Gtk file picker is
disabled per default for various reasons. See the discussion in
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=284487repeatmerged=no and
http://cvs.debian.org/oo-debian-files/doc/README.Debian.diff?r1=1.40r2=1.41cvsroot=debian-openoffice...
Just enable it ;)

Grüße/Regards,

René

Bug#295900: Depends on gnomelibs

revision would fix it. The necessary debian/* changes *are* there.
Unfortunately we forgot the ooo-build parts and it shlipped through my
testing. Humans make errors, don't they?

Still still is no reason why you simply couln't have reopened the old

before, at least for i386). isn't this the debian way? :-(

This bug was there before, it just didn't show up because it somehow
shows up only *sometimes* (timestsmp skew and so..).

The bugfix done in 1.1.3-5 was incomplete, so the the i386 deb now also depends
on gnomevfs where was only there on powerpc and s390 before.

As I said, humans make errors... That's why it's called unstable.

It'll be fixed in the next upload which will come soon.

Bug#296087: IMPORTANT: Microsoft EULA is NON-FREE and give MS specific rights!!

Right. To the submitter: Please *think* a bit before reporting such a
bug. Steve already closed the bug.

This indeed is part of THIRDPARTYLICENSEREADME, because the *Windows*
version contains those libs...

Grüße/Regards,

René

P.S: Ron, you probably should have sent this mail also to the submitter,
so it only went to debian-openoffice, which are the people which know
that this is a bogus bug.

and I'd think he completely got the point (1.1.4, but same for 1.1.3):

to create some debian packages in the unstable tree ?

I am working on some for experimental. It can *not* go into unstable
until the 1.1.3 versions will enter sarge since then 1.1.3-x won't go
into sarge (which currently due due some problems has 1.1.2..)

abiword/OOo and libwpd 0.8.0

2005-02-22 Thread Rene Engelhard
Hi,

yesterday evening I noticed that abiword now requires libwpd 0.8.0 for its
wordperfect import plugin whereas unstable only has 0.7.2. The abiword
mainatainers therefore apperently removed the libwpd7 builddep which
effectively results in building abiword without wordperfect import support
(which would need libwpd8[-dev]).

Although 0.8.0 is an API/ABI transition, I don't think there is a risk to let
it into unstable.
First, testing the library showed it being rock solid and secondly (which is
more important), it *won't* break existing applications in unstable. abiword
alredy has the needed version in unstable and the matching
writerperfect/wpd2sxw upload also is in NEW together with libwpd 0.8.0. OOo
does not dynamically link to libwpd yet.

Moreover, ooo-buillds OpenOffice.org 1.1.3 currently uses a old CVS snaphot
for the writerperfect import support whereas 1.1.4 uses libwpd 0.8.0 and we
can link to it dynamically which is better from maintenance and security
standpoint than using a internal static lib.

So this abiword/writerperfect/libwpd combination update has almost no risks
and won't have much to do except the probably needed hint to hint them in
together when they are ready.

So, knowing those facts, is it possible to approve libwpd/writerperfect to get
it out of NEW into unstable?
I talked with josk (abiword maint) about this on IRC yesterday and he said
this would be a good thing to do.

(NB: Didn't yet upload a new writerperfect source package with target unstable
but that could easily be done once libwpd/writerperfect are out of NEW. Or
should I do it now?)

Regards,

Rene

Bug#296982: openoffice.org-gnomevfs: Openoffice crashes using Gnome file dialogs

reassign 296982 libgnomevfs2-0

severity 296982 important
thanks

Andrea Vettorello wrote:
If i try to use the GTK/Gnome file dialogs Openoffice crashes with this

I've tried with a freshly created user (i.e. without previous configuration)
 but got the same error.

I've looked in the Debian BTS but found nothing, feel free to ask other
 info if needed.

This is a gnome-vfs bug. See

Since when does that happen? Did you change something except OOo? If

Anyway, I can't reproduce it (current sid); I guess we need more info...

No, the question here is where you were the last months. If you would have
been here (or using Debian sarge/sid) you would have seen that there were
regular openoffice.org updates for sarge and sid and experimental.

the openoffice.debian.net page is woefully out of date. Altho' if it's
any consolation, openoffice.org has an address in Germany that doesn't
even respond: they were last updated December 2003.

Yes, we know. That site isn't our priority. You could send us patches if
you want FWIW. There AFAIK was one who volunteered to maintain that page
but he disappeared again...

And well, what exactly do you want updated? NEWS? Except the upload of
new versions theer is nothing important there (well, we could mention
1.1.x, but the 1.1.0-2 stuff has the most important NEWS in Debian
OpenOffice.org history), the patches? The links should be quite self
explaining how to change them to get a site with the newest ones. The
package overview? Is automatically updated (since it's just a link to
the official DDPO).

Anyway, I will look whether I can find some time at this weekend to
update the page...

The news of a 2.0 Release Candidate availability hit my mailbox
today. I hope we are planning on packaging it! I have downloaded the

That's plain wrong. It's 2.0 *beta*. Release Candidate is still a few
months away. Beta doesn't mean RC, betais some time before you even can
think about calling stuff a RC. There is still so many stuff to do...

 OOo setup program.
I would like to help here. If I can do anything to make the news
more current, or to speedup the packaging effort, please let me know.

There are still so many bugs in that. Is the non-Java build currently
working (see the other post why we can't yet build with gcj-4.0,
expecially since major fixed for that wsere introduced _after_ beta, m82
to be precise). I ddidn't folow that too closely since I have to do official
testbuilds for suns qa (see below) with Suns Java anyhow..? Does it build
fine using the system libs (I guess the answer to the last one is yes).

Anyway we both which are doing OOo packaging don't have that much time and
still have to do 1.1.x stuff (and I am trying to get upstreams buildsystem
- wrt configure, libs, etc - a bit more in shape for 2.0 final)

That's what we want to do in future when it is possible; gcj-4.0
(in experimental currently) can build many parts of OpenOffice.org after some
patches for gcj support were made. (No idea about interpreting with
gij, though)

However, that would mean we'll get a dependency on the experimental
libgcc1 so the package won't be installable (and not buildable anywayn since we
need gcj-4.0) in plain unstable.

Not fine. Well... For a upload to experimental we probably could try but
it's really suboptimal.

And if anyone on the Debian OpenOffice Team would care to make other

This is my comment. Probably not suitable for a official quote but the

This exchange was six months ago, and I can't find anything more recent
using Google. Is there any status information about Debian pyuno around?

The two mentioned bug entries haven't changed in ten months either ...
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=220226
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=232905

There is mention of bringing up UNO for people using Bibus on Debian
 http://bibus-biblio.sourceforge.net/LinuxInstall.html
so it's not clear to me whether we couldn't just package what they did.
It seems to unpack and run reasonably well on Testing (i.e. OOo 1.1).

Right. The lack of a python-pyuno package is excatly the reason
mentioned in that bibus article below. (look for the ucs2 stuff=.

It'd build with python2.2 and
python2.3 but will not work with 2.3. And as I tried to make
policy-compliant package for python-pyuno I failed (puttting all stuff
in /usr/lib/openoffice/program is bad.)

OOo2 updates to python2.3 which gives us a bit hope that it may work
there (especially since they AFAIS don't use special configure options
to the included python...)

Bug#300260: openoffice.org-bin: Menubar depends on fontconfig

2005-03-20 Thread Rene Engelhard
tag 300260 + moreinfo
thanks

Hi,

Jonas Meurer wrote:
i've just installed openoffice into my i386 chroot, and i recognized,
that it didn't have any Menubar. After some debugging, i finally found
out that installing the packages fontconfig and libfontconfig1 fixed
the problem. The Menubar appears now, as usual.

as a consequence, i would highly suggest to make openoffice.org depend
on fontconfig, as an openoffice without Menubar is quite useless, and i
don't know whether other things don't work without fontconfig ...

Sure a depends is needed? OOo dlopen()'s fontconfig now

Grüße/Regards,

René

Bug#300345: ROUNDUP and ROUNDDOWN misbehave with negative argument

2005-03-23 Thread Rene Engelhard
tag 300345 + upstream
forwarded 300345 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=14521
thanks

Hi,

Am Samstag, 19. März 2005 07:30 schrieb Martin Godisch:
 In spreadsheets:

=ROUNDDOWN(+1.5;0) yields +1, this is correct.
=ROUNDDOWN(-1.5;0) yields -1, this is not correct, should be -2.

 Same problem with ROUNDUP.

This looks like http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=14521 to me,
where upstream says that this is correct behaviour.

Regards,

Rene

This will disable the MWMFunctions style for OpenOffice windows. Also,
another good tip is to enable stacking order hints, so that applications
can make full screen windows appear without the Taskbar getting in the

 Style * EWMHUseStackingOrderHints

Thanks. Maybe this bugreport should be cloned to fvwm95 (are there others who

Basically openoffice.org depends on openoffice.org-l10n-1.1.4 but

Am Montag, 20. Juni 2005 10:53 schrieb Andrew McMillan:
I have a patch for the openoffice.org-dictionaries-20030813 package to
add an en_NZ dictionary to it.

I also have a patch to it which makes it build a thesaurus package
allowing the en_US thesaurus to be used in the en_NZ locale. I think it
would be a good idea to have a package like this for every en_ locale
 that (a) does have a dictionary and (b) doesn't have a properly
 localised thesaurus.

hmm then add en NZ to the dictioonary.lst entry to en-us ane be fine. If I
read correctly, -en-nz would be identical to -en-us so it'd be a waste.

Although these patches are both pretty trivial, the first one at least
is fairly large because it includes the actual en_NZ dictionary (280k
 bzipped).

 Does anyone want this?

Yeah, you can send it along, I'll take a look.

Do the OpenOffice.org2 builds use the same dictionaries and thesauruses?

dictionaries, yes. Thesauri: no.

Would you like me to add do this for some other dictionaries, and
perhaps even some more you-can-use-the-thesaurus packages as above?

If they can build from a other source package with free tools (thescoder for
the OOo1 ones, I won't accept packaging of only the two binary .dat/.idx
files) it'd be ice if it was a extra source package. Same with OOo2
and ./th_gen_idx.pl (in this case, .dat is a text file)

Yes. It uses 2.6.

Unfortunately it is heavy patched so the possibility of using system-icu is
not that near.
OOo Upstream hoever wants to resolve that and get the patches upstream and
update icu then probably - so for some later version (2.0.1?) there will a
possibility to use system-icu. Not for 2.0, though :/ (Too bad, icu is

Bug#314254: openoffice.org: Menu item in wrong category

what does Categories=GTK affect? What does Categories=Gnome affect?
FWIW, OOo isn't a Gtk nor a GNOME app, it just looks likle it and that only if
you have -gtk-gnome installed :)

 /usr/share/applications/ooo645draw.desktop
 Categories=GTK;Gnome;Graphics;2DGraphics; or
 Categories=GTK;Gnome;Office;

I'd take the first one.

 /usr/share/applications/ooo645math.desktop
 Categories=GTK;Gnome;Office;

Isn't there any category for Formulas, Mathematical stuff etc?

 /usr/share/applications/ooo645printeradmin.desktop
 Categories=GTK;Gnome;Settings;HardwareSettings;
(would also fix the bug originally reported)

WIll think about it :)

If you add 'Application;' at the end of each Categories-line, these
desktop files will also be compatible with older GNOME versions
(possible to use it in upstream).

jup. Could you please also look at the OOo2 stuff? 1.1.x is not subject to
change that much anymore...

Further the package installs .desktop files
into /usr/share/applnk/OpenOffice.org1.1, which is not intended to be a
desktop-directory (see /usr/share/desktop-directories) and which leads
to an extra (needless) directory OpenOffice.org1.1 in XFCE4's system

That is KDE 3.2 stuff which I didn't yet remove. Should be done in the next
upload I guess :)

that even XFCE4 and GNOME read both /usr/share/applications
and /usr/share/applications/kde. But I don't know, what KDE reads.

KDE also reads /usr/share/applications.

 Yes. It uses 2.6.

Unfortunately it is heavy patched so the possibility of using system-icu is
 not that near.

For completeness' sake, the current patch can be found here. I'll yet you

The error and fix here is abvious. cp Debian.conf.in Debian64.conf.in

I think ooo team could make an effort to compile ooo2 into amd64 because
we can't make use of this tool natively and it would be very important
to have it (for me at least ... and for many people).

Oh, and building a package which does not work sensibly because OOo
still isn't yet ported fully makes sense? Well...

But I guess I can add Debian64.conf.in.

Note that Architecture: of the packages don't say anything about amd64
being supported natively, so

Bug#293015: Bug #293015 - openoffice.org-debian-files: IDL Compiler fails

2005-06-24 Thread Rene Engelhard
[ dpkg changes wrt arch variables]

Yes, problem already known.

Though i wonder if it should be used out of the dpkg system (it
would not work for non debian distributions ... and would require
a dependency on dpkg = 1.13.5). uname ? how does gcc manages
 this ...

But this is in adebian package and it is a debian paxckage warpper
script, so what? we know dpkg is there :)

After fixing this issue i got:
 $ LANG=C linux/bin/idlc idl/com/sun/star/uno/XWeak.idl
 linux/bin/idlc: line 5:
/usr/lib/openoffice/sdk/linux//bin/idlc.bin: No such file or directory

... i cannot find such a binary on my system (missing dependency
 or not compiled ?)

No. Install openoffice.org-dev. Just that the wrapper is in debian-files
doesn't say the needed binaries are there. And yes, making
openoffice.org-debian-files depend on -dev is nonsense...

CVS

Hi *,
sorry, I forgot which server the CVS is on and how to connect.
Can you help?

Additionally, I would ask how it is regulated with the CVS commit
access. How do I get one? Is there any possibility?

CVS has the contents of the debian directory. I suggest you first get the
source package and replace the debian directory with the one from CVS:

 apt-get source openoffice.org
 cd openoffice.org-1.0.0
 rm -rf debian
 export CVSROOT=:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs/debian-openoffice
 cvs login   {press enter}
 cvs -z4 co -d debian oo-deb/debian

Sure, I knew that but I forgot the pserver name.

Additionally, I would ask how it is regulated with the CVS commit
access. How do I get one? Is there any possibility?

Peter can assign access to people who have contributed to the package. You
need to get involved first, though. If you post diffs created by CVS diff,
 we'll commit them for you.

If you can, join us at #debian-oo on irc.openprojects.net for a chat.

OK, I'll do that later this evening (at the moment I am not at home).
I intend to help with packaging the german spellcheck for OOo in the
openoffice.org package which if I remember correctly is planned for -5.

See you on #debian-oo

Rene

I upgraded a few hours ago to -5 from vpn-junkies.de.

Went well.

I have uploaded copies of the .debs of libgcc1 and libfreetype6 from sid.
This should make it possible to install OOo from our archive without having
 sid in sources.list.

That's a good idea

you probably had put into this mail the contact address to the Debian

Rene Engelhard has packaged the German dictionaries. Depending on the
variant you wish to use, you can get them from our OOo mirrors with:

 apt-get install openoffice.org-spellcheck-de-de
 apt-get install openoffice.org-spellcheck-de-at
 apt-get install openoffice.org-spellcheck-de-ch

Can we use the BTS for them, too? How to set up?

Rene

P.S.:

I tried a subscribe to the PTS of openoffice.org to get all the BTS
mails and failed. It was said to me that tehers is no binary or source
package openoffice.org which is true :)

But I subscribed recently to the PTS of away which is going to be
upoload today or tomorrow and therefore not in the archive yet and
that works...

Maybe the pts has some problem with the dot ion the name?

$ zcat openoffice.org_1.0.0-pre1.0.1rc2.diff.gz | patch -p0

no .. this wont work, because, the patch with changes from 1.0 to 1.0.1
is not included there, because, its too big and in general not
 nessessary.

Please use chmod and try again

Oh, yes sorry. I did not recognize that because I did not do the
rm -rf debian. (why am I writing this then? :-( )

If you do a cvs co over the exitsting directory or move it away, make
a co, move it back, and make a up works.
