Re: Bug#541703: base-files: Please include FreeBSD license

For example, there are 19,893 packages in the archive that reference some form of the GPL, and given its length, we don't want to ship 19,893 copies of the GPL and have every Debian user have hundreds or thousands of copies of it installed. Hello everybody, I would like to add that it helps to make the copyright summary much more readable, when instead of having the information buried between long copies of common licenses, there is their boilerplate and a link to their full text. So personnaly, I support the addition of long licences to /usr/share/common-licenses even when their quantity is in the order of a couple of dozens (like the Artistic License 2.0). This is also addressed by DEP 5, without requiring license terms in separate files. That format allows specification of a named license for specific sets of files, while deferring the full license terms referenced by that name to later in the same file. So it's not necessary to have the terms in a separate file to improve readability in the manner you describe. -- \ “We are human only to the extent that our ideas remain humane.” | `\ —_Breakfast of Champions_, Kurt Vonnegut | _o__) | Ben Finney -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-policy-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Re: Bug#541703: base-files: Please include FreeBSD license
reassign 541703 debian-policy thanks In this bug, I'm asked to include the FreeBSD license (which is not exactly the same as the BSD license) into common-licenses. As usual, I delegate this decision to the policy group (hence the reassign). [ IMHO, the proposed license is so small that we don't save any space by putting it in common-licenses, but it's your decision ]. Thanks. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-policy-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
