maconlinux
Hello list, I have just installed mol and mol-drivers-macosx . Ran sudo molvconfig which apparently configured what everything OK. I got OSX X 10.3.9 installed. When I try to run as root startmol --osx mol switches to full screen, starts loading darwin kernel but it ends in kernel panic. Any ideas? -- http://okle.pl

Upstream seems pretty inactive these days and this is really beond my capabilities. (And I lack an OSX 10.5 installation for a start...) I think that probably only some minor changes to the bootx included in mol-drivers-macosx are needed. To fix this we need someone with a good knowledge about the mac powerpc boot process and bootx. Or someone with a bit of free time and willing to dive into all this. If you (not only directed at Rhonda) are willing to tackle this, I will try to support you as much as I'm able to. MacOnLinux and Network Configuration
Hello! I'm a new user of Apple Hardware, and i'm trying to get MoL working properly. It works pretty well, but till now i has not been able to get network working. I tried both sheep and tap drivers (i prefer tap, but tried also sheep). With sheep it simply does not work. there is little to configure for it, but does not work. I cant simply send packet in/out to/from the guest OS. With tap i did as follow: i created tap device /dev/net/tap, change permission to rw rw rw, then interface /dev/net/tap0 with tunctl (from root, to avoid permission issues), tried either with 192.168.2.0 (as documentation suggest, but it seems a bit strange to me) or 2.1, then i launched (by root) mol with tap0 -tap option. I configured MoL to use an address of 192.168.2.10 and netmask 255.255.255.0 for the new interface. but i cant send/receive packet too anbd i get, on console, a lot of messages like: enet2 write: Connection refused, when mol try to send packet outside. inside osX/mol i can in all configuration (sheep/tap) ping myself i would prefer TAP driver since i can do bridging with it, but sheep would be ok too.. Then i have another question: a few weeks ago i tried to configure osX color management from MoL. And it worked! I was able to see changes on the apple on screen when i moved slides up down on the wizard. Now i'm not able any more. I cant configure color management any more... Is this a my fault? can i have changed something that does not allow me to configure it? I installed Photoshop CS2 and C1 Pro 3.7, but they are stand alone soft i think.. Oh, i'm using osX Panther as Mac and debian ppc as Linux Thank you in advance for any advice! mol version mismatch in sid (MacOnLinux)
mol (Mac On Linux) allows you to run Mac OS programs natively while booted off of Linux for PowerPC on a Macintosh. There are two packages, mol and mol-modules. mol-modules is the source code for the required kernel modules. mol is the userspace programs. The version of mol in sid is 0.9.60-5. The version of mol-modules is 0.9.61-4. The versions need to match; if I select mol then the dependency screen tells me that mol depends on mol-modules but it is apparently unavailable. I tried converting the RPM's from http://www.maconlinux.org/ using Alien. I was able to get mol to install, but not the modules. I couldn't get the module source code to build, either from the release sources, or getting them from rsync or bitkeeper. Is there a mol-0.9.61 deb? I'd really love to give Mac On Linux a try. Re: mol version mismatch in sid (MacOnLinux)
Hi, Michael D. Crawford writes: There are two packages, mol and mol-modules. mol-modules is the source code for the required kernel modules. mol is the userspace programs. Not quite. There are three packages, mol with the userspace stuff, mol-modules-source with the modules source code and mol-modules-2.2.19 with binary modules for 2.2.19 kernels. mol-modules used to contain kernel modules, but is obsolete and should not even exist on any decent mirror. The version of mol in sid is 0.9.60-5. The version of mol-modules is 0.9.61-4. Where is that? In URL:http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/contrib/m/, there are mol and mol-modules-source version 0.9.61-4 and mol-modules-2.2.19 version 0.9.61-3. I've verified that these packages work with a 2.2.19 kernel. The versions need to match Indeed. Regards, Jens. -- J'qbpbe, le m'en fquz pe j'qbpbe! Re: mol version mismatch in sid (MacOnLinux)
I'm not sure if I was confused before, but now I am seeing the same versions for mol and mol-modules-src. However, the dependency conflict screen says mol depends on mol-modules, and it is not available. Note mol-modules is a different package from mol-modules-src. I don't seem to be able to get mol to install, even though I can download and install the source. Can I make the mol-modules package myself from the source? Mike -- Michael D. ReiserFS PPC + MacOnLinux = Crash
Hi, I just reformatted my root partition from ext2 to ReiserFS (I have single Linux partition), reinstalled Linux, and everything is OK except except MOL. I recompiled again both 2.4.2 kernel (with Endian-safe ReiserFS support) and MOL, stripped again NW ROM, changed MOL prefs, but nothing helped. I think the culprit is the ReiserFS partition where MOL keep its temp files, because I have the same setup as before, but it does not work anymore. Thanks in advance for any suggestion. Andrei
