Bug#590163: Changes in foomatic-db
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Francesco Poli wrote: You're welcome. Thanks to you, for your kind explanations! [...] How am I supposed to configure my HP LaserJet 1320 printer, next time I install a (print server) box? Here's how you can get your PPD file back, using the foomatic database (you need foomatic-db and foomatic-db-engine packages installed): Search for the printer ID : $ foomatic-searchprinter HP LaserJet 1320 HP-LaserJet_1320 Create the PPD: $ foomatic-ppdfile -p HP-LaserJet_1320 /tmp/HP_LaserJet_1320_Series.ppd And then you can do as before. That's great, but it doesn't seem to work: $ foomatic-searchprinter HP LaserJet 1320 HP-LaserJet_1320 $ foomatic-ppdfile -p HP-LaserJet_1320 /tmp/lj.ppd ERROR: foomatic-ppdfile: There is neither a custom PPD file nor the driver database entry contains sufficient data to build a PPD file. It turns out I was wrong, you should rather take a look at http://bugs.debian.org/590163#10 (Till's answer). In short, you need the hplip-data package installed. Does this work for you then ? If using CUPS, one should really use the web interface. I don't really like the web interface: it's slow and it's harder for me to document what I do via a graphical interface. A couple of simple command lines are easier to copy and paste to/from an administration notes text-file... Sure.
