I am working on this. I have the previous version online at
http://people.debian.org/~calvin/purepython/
which uses debhelper scripts.

Indeed this weekend I have been working on the new version, which
is similar to emacsen-common (per-package DB entries etc.).
I still have to test the scripts a little, so expect them to be online
in the next 2-3 days.

Why not take the emacsen-common method and code and use this for
python? It probably won't work for C-extension modules, but it could
make life easier for pure Python ones.
I have looked into emacsen-common scripts, but I dont like programming in
Perl, its a pain for me.
Anyway it would be an offense if a Python-related package was written
in Perl :)

Super! I'll check it out when I have a moment.

But of course! However, once it's translated into a sensible
language, the principles should be fine ;-)

I'm probably going to have a look at these soon and hope to give some input...

Just a thought; since we already have a database of packages in the form of
the dpkg database, is it possible to do something simple using it instead of
introducing some other database? As an example, can a python package call
dpkg-reconfigure for all installed packages that depend on python in
its postinst script?

The Python Registrar

2002-02-11 Thread Bastian Kleineidam
Hello.

The first version of the python-central package is online at
http://people.debian.org/~calvin/python-central/

It provides support for installing pure Python modules independent
of the Python version (see Python Policy 2.2.3).

I made a patch for the python1.5 package which uses this script.
And there is a tiny example package.

Use this script with care, its only tested with the example package.
To debug, add set -x at the top of /usr/bin/register-python-package.

Greetings from Munich, Bastian

per search.

Just send a minimum of $10(US) to:

Because of technical reasons beyond my control, I might
not be able
to receive emails that you send by replying to this email.
Please send
comments, suggestions and questions to the PO Box
above.

Include the DBNO(Database Number) listed beside each

and the names your searching for and your email address.
If there is
more than 1 of the same name in a database, It will be $1
(US) per
