Request to join the Python Modules Packaging Team

2010-06-05 Thread Alexandre Quessy
Hello,
I want to join the Debian Python Modules Packaging Team. My alioth
username is alexandrequessy-guest. I am a new member of the Python-App
Team and a prolific Python developer. I think I should be member of
this team too, since I have a few modules to contribute soon, and
probably more later.

My name is Alexandre Quessy. I am a developer from Montreal. I am
interested in free software for new media arts, nameyl audio, video
and electronics. I have been using free software for many years now. I
am the co-author of some free software projects such as those listed
above. I am mostly interested in the Python and C++ languages. Amongst
the tools I like are Twisted, GTK+, GStreamer, gettext, the GNU
Autotools, bash and vim. I have a strong background in image
processing, music theory, web development, communication protocols and
software process management.

I am motivated to become a Debian maintainer, and soon an uploader.
Debian and Ubuntu are my favourite operating systems. I have ongoing
art projects with free software, and you can read about them on
http://alexandre.quessy.net

Project on which in am author or co-author:
(I intend to package the three packages listed first.)
  * toonloop: Live frame by frame animation tool http://toonloop.com
  * scenic: Desktop application to stream audio, video and MIDI over
RTP http://svn.sat.qc.ca/trac/scenic/
  * lunch: Distributed process launcher http://svn.sat.qc.ca/trac/lunch
  * Other listed on http://bitbucket.org/aalex/

Specific Python modules I work on, or am interested in in the short-term:
 * python-portmidi
 * pygame
 * some python-lunch module soon. (I am the author of lunch which is a
new Python app in sid)

inject it into our repo (example command is in the policy)
and ask for review (f.e. by adding package name to #debian-python's

In my comment on REVU I stated "I would suggest..."! By no means is it
a "requirement" to get your package into Debian first. However from my
own past experiences IMHO you would get better, more timely reviews of
your package by joining PAPT and PMPT.

I recently updated https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NewPackages
to mention some active Debian teams. That was meant to document a
different workflow that, in most cases, works fine with NEW packages.

It's not a requirement, just a different approach which can can lead to
quicker and better reviews.

Require is a bit strong. I've more than once strongly encouraged people to
come to debian-python as the best way to go about it.

in addition to these comments (I only scanned the diff quickly):
* Architecture should be "all", not "any"
* use python-support or wait forever for a sponsor
* get rid of pyflakes local copy in the binary package and use the one
  from Debian package instead
* make sure the diff.gz doesn't touch files from outside debian
  directory before svn-injecting the package into our repo
* if spyderlib is not used outside spyder, please use private directory
  (hint: --install-lib). If it is, please rename binary package to
python-spyderlib
  and ping me to add you to DPMT instead.

Request to join the Python Modules Packaging Team

2010-01-19 Thread Tim Michelsen
Hi!
I'd like to offer my support related to scientific python packages:
* Spyder
* scikits.timeseries
* scikits.hydroclimpy
* scikits.pystatsmodels

I have already started to push some to Ubuntu:

* PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~pythonxy/+archive/individual-releases

* and REVU:
http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/p/spyder

The Ubuntu MOTUs require that the packages land first in Debian.

I registered at Alioth with "timmichelsen-guest".

What do I need to do next?

Regards,
Timmie

if you plan to adopt the package, please retitle the RFA bug to an ITA
(Intent To Adopt), so that it's clear someone is working on taking
over the package (and avoid potential duplicate work).

I'd be happy to review the changes once you'll be able to commit your
changes: just give me a ping (off-list, or on irc as morph on
#debian-python channel of OFTC network).

Request to join the Python Modules Packaging Team

2009-12-20 Thread Christopher Albert

Hi!

I'd like to offer my support related to the broken package petsc4py
(Bug#550458 - RFA: petsc4py -- Python bindings for PETSc), possibly
becoming its new maintainer.

I have already updated and fixed the package (for details, see the bug
thread at http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=550458) and
would love to become a member of your team in order to commit my changes.

My alioth username is ert_guest. As I am no DD right now I would need a
sponsor (maybe Sandro?) to upload the package.

Regards,

Chris
