That all remains to be seen.  I'd personally like to see some sample packages
with both alternatives so that we can play with them, and try to garner
consensus.

I agree with everything.

If somebody has time to update "my" packages to modern helpers,
convert them from svn to git, or enable Python 3, please go on!
