Hello,

Unfortunately the perl-doc-html maintainer orphaned the package last year
so it was removed so that it didn't reflect the wrong version of perl
shipped in that release.

It won't be possible (even if there was the will from someone)
to add it back to Debian 10 after the fact due to Debian's release
policies. There are some ideas about how to get it back into Debian in
 and
 so if someone
wanted to work on that it could be restored for Debian 11.

Since I last looked at this it appears there has been some work in
revitalising perldoc.perl.org which had itself fallen into unmaintained
mode if I recall.

If anyone would be interested in working on this please ping me so we
can discuss if/how it should be integrated into the perl packages.

Cheers,
Dominic.

I'm not sure where the original tooling for perldoc.perl.org has gone,
but it seems like it might not be the best option these days.

Bug#825220: fwanalog: please Build-Depend on rename

2016-05-24 Thread Dominic Hargreaves
Source: fwanalog
Version: 0.6.9-7
Severity: normal
User: debian-p...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: perl-5.24-transition rename-deprecation

Dear maintainer,

This package was found to contain uses of the 'rename' and/or 'prename'
(which is an alias) command. This was previously implemented by a script
added to the perl package by Debian, but there is now a maintained
alternative in the 'rename' package.

Please add a Build-Depends on 'rename', to avoid breakage in your
package when we remove the rename script from the perl package
(expected after the release of stretch). Additionally, if you are
currently using 'prename', please use 'rename' (which is handled by the
alternatives mechanism) or file-rename, which is the new implementation.

You can see more background about this change at
.

Thanks,
Dominic

Details of the use of (p)rename in your package follow:

debian/rules
39: ( cd debian/fwanalog/usr/lib/fwanalog ; rename 's/\.sh//' *.sh )

Version: 1:3.2.0b6-14

The perl 5.22 transition just started (see
https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2015/12/msg5.html)
and we seem to have missed that this package depends on the deprecated
virtual package "perl5" like some other packages did.

The perl 5.22 packages don't provide perl5, making this package
uninstallable.

I'll do a QA upload shortly.

Dominic.

This bug just hit me in Debian stable (as it happens, it appeared to
be a particularly severe form where /etc/resolv.conf was wiped out
altogether; perhaps some sort of race condition?)

I'm not sure why rdnssd was installed at all. I can't see any mention
of it in debian-installer, and not a single package Depends or Recommends
it. Morever it was installed without resolvconf (which I suspect would
have mitigated this issue), despite it recommending resolvconf, and no
change to the default of installing recommends having taken place.

Release team; would you consider a QA upload of this package targetted
at stable, fixing this bug in the same way that Michael fixed it in
unstable - this will hopefully stop others having the experience of
having networking break on a freshly installed Debian system every 20
minutes or so.

Dominic.

Oh, right. It seems that that bug got closed because noone had a suitable

Hello,

As part of the upcoming perl 5.22 transition we are removing the Provides
for a long-obsolete virtual package 'perl5', which this package
Build-Depends on. Most likely the correct fix is to just Build-Depend on
'perl' instead.

This bug will become RC when perl 5.22 enters unstable in the upcoming
weeks/months.

Greetings from the Barcelona Perl team sprint!

Bug#696254: qa.debian.org: PTS has outdated current policy version

 - package in testing should match debian-policy in testing
 - package in unstable should match debian-policy in unstable
 - package in experimental should match debian-policy in unstable

The first three version parts are sufficient, but it's not an error if all
 four
 parts are used.

 - debian-policy version 3.9.3.1 -- standards version 3.9.3 is sufficient
 - debian-policy version 3.9.4.0 -- standards version 3.9.4 is sufficient

The message should be produced only if the package's standards version is
 lower
than the (first three parts of the) version of debian-policy, not when it's
higher. So I would not complain about a package in testing having
 standards-version 3.9.4 at this time.

This is the existing message template :

The package should be updated to follow the last version of Debian Policy
(Standards-Version first three version parts of policy version instead of
   package's standards version).

I suggest to change that to this template to allow multiple messages per
 source
 package :

Version package version of this package has Standards-Version: package's
standards version and should be updated to follow version first three
version parts of policy version of Debian Policy.

When a package has the same version in multiple distributions, then two
versions of debian-policy could come into play, and then I suggest to look at
the lowest version of debian-policy only. For example for gwhere
0.2.3.dfsg.1-3 currently in testing and unstable :

Version 0.2.3.dfsg.1-3 of this package has Standards-Version: 3.8.1 and
should be updated to follow version 3.9.3 of Debian Policy.

I understand your proposal, but it feels like overkill to me. I'm not
convinced there's really anything special about 3.9.4 than any other
version of policy w.r.t the freeze. Russ, in his 3.9.4 announcement,
reminded us not to gratuitously update the S-V of a package during
the freeze (and he did mention 3.9.4 there) but wouldn't the same apply
to a package that currently had 3.9.2? A gratuitous bump to 3.9.3
wouldn't make any sense for a package targetted at wheezy.

How about a simpler modification to the current template:

The package should be updated to follow the last version of Debian Policy
(Standards-Version first three version parts of policy version instead of
package's standards version). We recommend that such changes do not
take place during a freeze for packages targetted at the testing
  distribution.

Please remove hybserv. It hasn't seen a maintainer upload since

Hello,

I use hybserv in squeeze and would like to continue using it after
wheezy comes out. I'd like to suggest that I take over this package
and re-introduce it into Debian (it looks Aurélien's other packages have
been orphaned (eg #677763). The package works with hybrid-ircd which
I have just adopted.

As far as I can tell from the bugs that were closed when it was removed,
this package did not have any serious issues outstanding; it's true
that there has not been a new upstream release for a while, however.
On the subject of IPv6 support, I do not believe that this is significant
in that the only direct network connection used is to the IRC server; I
imagine that most of the time this is on the same host.

Note that there are likely alternatives to this package, but they
are not available in wheezy (or compatible with the ircd-hybrid in
wheezy AFAIK). Once ircd-hybrid 8 has been packaged then there will
be more options available for ircd-hybrid users, I believe.

So, any feedback from the QA team and the release team about whether
I can reintroduce this package into sid and/or request it be migrated
to wheezy?

Thanks,
Dominic.

Bug#659426: mgp: Uses perl4 corelibs without Depends

2012-02-10 Thread Dominic Hargreaves
Package: mgp
Version: 1.13a+upstream20090219-3
Severity: normal
User: debian-p...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: perl4-corelibs

Dear maintainer,

This package currently uses one or more deprecated perl 4 era packages,
as shown on the lintian report[1]:

usr/bin/mgpembed:19 getopts.pl

As detailed at [2] we would like you to either add a dependency on

libperl4-corelibs-perl | perl ( 5.12.3-7)

or (ideally) to replace their use with more modern equivalents.
We'd like to have this in place for wheezy, so that we can follow
cleanly the upstream deprecation cycle in wheezy+1.

If you prefer, I will NMU your package with the dependency added.

The wiki page [2] has references (taken from the source of the libraries
in question) for the recommended replacement libraries.

Thanks,
Dominic.

Bug#482135: qa.debian.org: backports.org data out of date on DDPO?

Package: qa.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hello,

I noticed that (for example) on
http://qa.debian.org/[EMAIL PROTECTED]

the backports section is not updated; the openafs version on bpo is now
higher than that listed, and libtemplate-perl is not listed at all when
it should be.

Are package list updates from bpo broken?

Thanks,
Dominic.

Bug#272356: libquantum-entanglement-perl: Package contains spurious /usr/lib/perl/5.8

2004-09-19 Thread Dominic Hargreaves
Package: libquantum-entanglement-perl
Version: 0.25-3
Severity: important

This package seems to contain /usr/lib/perl/5.8, which is preventing
perl-base 5.8.4-2.2 from installing, since:

Unpacking replacement perl-base ...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/perl-base_5.8.4-2.2_i386.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/lib/perl/5.8', which is also in package
 libquantum-entanglement-perl

If I read the situation correctly, the problem is with this package and
not perl-base (which wants to update the directory to a symlink to
/usr/lib/perl/5.8.4).

Severity important since this prevents perl-base from being upgraded.
