Tried to configure open weather extension for UK standard barometric pressure unit of millibars, as used in public weather forecasts. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Enabled the extension. Opened it from the tile bar. Noted that it used the US unit of inches of mercury. Selected the settings option and units tab and tried to select mbar. * What was the outcome of this action? There was no mbar unit. The closest was Bar, but to the, default, 1 decimal place precision, this is not sufficient. Pa (pascal) gives the right precision, but gives the decimal point in the wrong place. * What outcome did you expect instead? The menu to include a mbar, or millibar option, which reported numbers with values close to 1,000. I checked the upstream on GitLab, and this did include a mbar option, in extension.js, as enumeration 10. I looked at the same file in Debian, and the last entry was enumeration 9. It is fairly clear from the source code that the internal reprsentation is in millibars! -- System Information: Debian Release: 9.5 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.9.0-8-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_GB.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_GB.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages gnome-shell-extension-weather depends on: ii dconf-gsettings-backend [gsettings-backend] 0.26.0-2+b1 ii gir1.2-clutter-1.0 1.26.0+dfsg-3 ii gir1.2-glib-2.0 1.50.0-1+b1 ii gir1.2-gtk-3.0 3.22.11-1 ii gir1.2-soup-2.4 2.56.0-2+deb9u2 ii gnome-shell 3.22.3-3 Versions of packages gnome-shell-extension-weather recommends: ii gnome-tweak-tool 3.22.0-1 gnome-shell-extension-weather suggests no packages. -- no debconf information --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: gnome-shell-extension-weather Source-Version: 0.0~git20201103.d8be50f-1 Done: Anthony Fok We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of gnome-shell-extension-weather, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. Please check whether this extension is compatible. You'll probably want to add a Recommends or even Depends on gnome-shell-extension-prefs, a new package split out from gnome-shell that is meant to be taking over responsibility for enabling and disabling extensions from gnome-tweaks (at the moment they both offer this, but there's a gnome-tweaks merge request open to remove the duplicate functionality). One thing that is definitely not compatible is that this extension runs: Util.spawn(["gnome-shell-extension-prefs", "openweather-extens...@jenslody.de"]); This is no longer supported since GNOME Shell 3.36.1: gnome-shell-extension-prefs no longer takes a UUID as a command-line argument. Some of the Debian GNOME team have wondered whether it's feasible to patch back in, but the code involved is surprisingly extensive, so the answer might be no. As far as I can tell from GNOME Shell's upstream commit history, the preferred way to launch extension preferences in sufficiently recent versions is to call imports.misc.extensionUtils.openPrefs(), which was added by gnome-shell!1163. It isn't in 3.36.1, but the version in experimental (which is halfway between upstream 3.36.1 and 3.36.2) does have it. To support older GNOME versions, fall back to the spawn call if imports.misc.extensionUtils doesn't have an openPrefs method.
