While checking how many packages are still using the deprecated
libsoup2.4, I noticed that gthumb is one of only two packages in Debian
that still depend on libsoup-gnome2.4-dev.

libsoup-gnome was originally a sub-library for parts of libsoup that
depended on GNOME infrastructure, like GNOME's gconf settings for proxies.
My understanding is that all of that functionality has now been superseded
by components at the cross-desktop layer, like GIO extension points and
the glib-networking package.

gthumb has a build-dependency, but the actual binary has no dependency
on libsoup-gnome2.4-1, and from a quick look at codesearch I can't
see any sign that it is actually using this sub-library. Can the
build-dependency be removed?

This would also be a step closer to being able to port
gthumb from the deprecated libsoup2.4/libwebkit2-gtk-4.0-dev to
libsoup3/libwebkit2-gtk-4.1-dev (a mass bug filing for that will follow
at some point). libsoup3 does not have libsoup-gnome any more.

Thanks,
