Currently the Always option has the same behaviour as the Never option, starting new processes on every launch, rather than creating a window from an already running konqueror-process (should there be one). I think this should be fixed as it improves performance on slower computers by quite a bit. As it is now, users may think that they've chosen the fastest option, while they've actually got the slowest one going. --- Received: (at 281393-done) by bugs.debian.org; 4 Jan 2005 09:15:49 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Jan 04 01:15:49 2005 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from 84-120-64-130.onocable.ono.com (chistera.yi.org) [84.120.64.130] by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1Clkn6-0004KR-00; Tue, 04 Jan 2005 01:15:49 -0800 Received: from userid 1000 by chistera.yi.org with local (Exim 4.34) id 1Clkn5-0004sR-R0; Tue, 04 Jan 2005 10:15:47 +0100 Date: Tue, 4 Jan 2005 10:15:47 +0100 From: Adeodato =?iso-8859-1?Q?Sim=F3?= [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: debian-qt-kde@lists.debian.org Subject: more bugs closed by the KDE 3.3 tranisition Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mail-Followup-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED], debian-qt-kde@lists.debian.org Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-No-CC: Please respect my Mail-Followup-To header User-Agent: Mutt/1.5.6+20040907i Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-1.8 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,FROM_ENDS_IN_NUMS autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 X-Spam-Level: X-CrossAssassin-Score: 6 The following bugs against KDE packages were tagged sarge. I haven't been able to locate _exactly_ where the problem comes from, but it happens very often that, when I quit KDE (be it by logging out, restarting or turning off my computer), the screen becomes black with the mouse pointer centered, and everything freezes. I then have no choice but to power off my system manually. The only thing I'm sure about is that the problem is somewhere in the base packages of KDE: this bug only happens when I use KDE (I've been using gnome, xfce4 and others to test X, but this *never* happened with others window/desktop managers), and closing all apps before exiting makes no change. I've rebuilt some of my packages with apt-build (never using higher levels than -02 plus a few extra safe options) and I wondered if this had something to do with the unstability of my system under KDE, but I don't think so; since I use apt-get dist-upgrade on a daily basis, surely most of - if not all - those packages have long since been replaced. Dying to read a solution ... KDE is such a great environment with such great apps, but this is really getting on my nerves. More and more. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.26 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (ignored: LC_ALL set to fr_BE) Versions of packages kdebase-bin depends on: ii kdelibs4 4:3.3.0-1 KDE core libraries ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.16-6 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-16 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libfam0c102 2.7.0-5client library to control the FAM ii libgcc1 1:3.4.1-5 GCC support library ii libice6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libidn11 0.5.2-2GNU libidn library, implementation ii libpam-runtime0.76-22Runtime support for the PAM librar ii libpam0g 0.76-22Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpng12-01.2.5.0-7 PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt 3:3.3.3-3 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libsm64.3.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++51:3.3.4-9 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxrender1 0.8.3-7X Rendering Extension client libra ii libxtst6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System event recording an ii xlibs 4.3.0.dfsg.1-6 X Window System client libraries m ii zlib1g1:1.2.1.1-5compression library - runtime -- no debconf information

Using Sarge, however, I have been experiencing random Konqueror crashes for some time now. For this reason, I am adding the sarge tag to this report (I really wish the RMs would let in KDE 3.3). It happens totally at random. I cannot associate any particular usage pattern on my part with these crashes, and it can happen with any URL imaginable (I believe it has happened even with sites such freshmeat.net, linuxtoday.com, and slashdot.org). System is a recent Sarge install and fully up-to-date (including t-p-u). There is usually a long time (up to a couple of days) between crashes. I use this system 24/7 and Konqueror is always open and heavily used with several tabs (URLs) accessed/opened. I don't get it, and unfortunately I don't feel like experiencing with http://www.kde-debian.org/~domi/debugging-kde-crash.html on this particular system. Sorry, about that. I know this report is not of much help to you wrt debugging the problem. Checking the postinst it is quickly clear why: if [ $upgradescript ... ^ The 'test' ('[') invocation should not be there; the if needs to check the exit code of the upgrade script by itself. Ooopsss.. yet another typo. Guess i have to seriously consider migrating to 'dbconfig-common' to avoid these in the future :-S Anyways, the fix is already included. I seem to remember having fixed this before for the v6-v7 upgrade in my NMU. It's certainly possible. I might have made a mistake when hand-patching or somehow re-introduced the bug later. Anyways, it won't happen again. Patch attached. Thank you very much, Filip. The corrected version will be uploaded as soon as possible (as soon as my sponsor is back home) Best, J.L.
Bug#285794: Kmail crash fixed upstream but is not in 3.3.2
Hi! This bug has also bitten me, and a lot of other people it seems. It is noted upstream in this report: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90320 From comment #11 and #14, the fix has not made it too 3.3.2, it seems. I figured it may be useful for the maintainers too, in case the fix could be backported to Debian packages for upcoming uploads. I'm trying to make a small contribution by reviewing stuff in the BTS, but I'm a bit unsure how to appropriately tag the bugs. Yesterday, I marked a bug forwarded, just to have a record of where it was forwarded, not that I forwarded it. That might not be such a good idea, I guess. This bug should be marked upstream for sure, but I'm a bit uncertain whether it should be marked fixed-upstream too, as it has not been fixed in any packages yet released. Please clue me in, if there is time. Bug#288653: kdelibs-data fails to install because of a clash with kjscmd
Package: kdelibs-data Version: 4:3.3.1-4 Severity: normal While upgrading my system with aptitude from KDE 3.3.2 to KDE 3.3.1, the package kdelibs-data could not be installed. The installation aborted with the error message Preparing to replace kdelibs-data 4:3.2.3-2 (using .../kdelibs-data_4%3a3.3.1-4_all.deb) ... Bug#288653: kdelibs-data fails to install because of a clash with kjscmd
I solved the problem in the following way: 1. I uninstalled the package kjscmd by hand, using dpkg. After that, aptitude was able to continue without problems. 2. I re-installed kjscmd. This also worked without a problem. -erik -- Erik Schnetter [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.aei.mpg.de/~eschnett/ My email is as private as my paper mail. Big thank you
Good morning The KDE 3.3 transition seems to be over and to be a success. At this point I want to send you KDE-Maintainers a big thank you for your work and wish you (and all readers) the best for the new year. Thank you Mario
