Package: libarts1
Version: 1.3.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Since the change from KDE 3.2.2 to 3.3.1 in testing I have massive
problems with sound. I've took a look at google but only found a
similar problem in sid, but not in sarge:

At first I had problems with my profile; Icons on desktop moved
themselve to another place and icon realplayer was doubled. It was
solved with removing *all* user-settings (~/.kde, mcop and so on).

But there is a *angry* problem without any solution:
If I play a system-sound and I hear it really from my loudspeakers,
and I play another sound within 15s, I hear this sound immidiately.
If I wait 20s instead of 15s, I have a delay of 7s between starting
to play an hearing the sound:-((

This makes sound-notification for example in kopete unusable.

Also I realised that I hear nothing when playin
/usr/share/sounds/KDE_Beep.ogg
but for example /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Event_1.ogg I can hear!?
Whats that? The file is not corrupted, with the one from another PC
with KDE 3.2.2 copied to my one I get the same problem.

Again: with KDE 3.2.2 I have had *no problems* all the time on the
same computer, problems occured with upgrading sarge to 3.3.1, never
mind on creating a new user-profile or not. Sound-server settings on
both were default, but changing them takes no effect, likewise
changing from oss to alsa takes no effect.

AMD K6-III 400, 640MB RAM, Chaintech 5AGM-2 motherboard, Soundblaster
16 ISA without pnp (but properly installed), Kernel 2.6.8-1-386.

And, another one: with the new KDE system hangs completely about 3 times!
It hangs so awesome that there was no remote-login via ssh possible.

Package: kdepim-wizards
Version: 4:3.5.9-5
Severity: normal

We have a Scalix server for mail and shared calendars; when we set up Kontact
with the scalixwizard it puts this into the Configure Kontact Calendar
Free/Busy Server URL fields (for both Publish and Recieve):
###
scalix://user%20n...@.myscalixdomain.net/freebusy/Calendar/user.n...@emaildomain.com
###

Note what it is doing, scalixwizard replaced the . (dot) in my email address
with %20 (and, later, the other punctiation is replaced as well, but Kalendar
gets its error before that data is sent) and fixing this alone doesn't resolve
the issue. When one then tries to publish or retrieve information, this leads
to the error:
###
The software could not upload your free/busy list to the URL
'scalix://UserAuthorization failed, Unable to login. Probably the password is
wrong. The server .myscalixdomain.net replied: LOGIN failure, user name or
password rejected authentication not
supported0n...@.myscalixdomain.net/freebusy/Calendar/User.Name%40emaildomain.com'.
There might be a problem with the access rights, or you specified an incorrect
URL. The system said: %2.
Please check the URL or contact your system administrator.
###

The work around for this is to sigle-quote the Server URL after correcting it,
so that it reads:
###
'scalix://user.n...@.myscalixdomain.net/freebusy/Calendar/user.n...@emaildomain.com'
###
Note that double-quoting the Server URL doesn't work, nor does trying to escape
(\) the punctuation issues.
This error may not exist for everyone, as it likely depends somewhat on how one
is required to log into the server, etc., but it has been a long time annoyance
with only recently the work-around figured out.

Bug#580355: kate: Opening file or using document browser gives The process

2010-05-05 Thread Moshe Yudkowsky

Package: kate
Version: 4:4.4.3-1
Severity: important

I have kate-plugins installed, 4:3.5.9-2, and I the filesystem browser,
the XML validation, tab browser, etc. plugins activated.

The filesystem browser window, if I attempt to use it, gives me a popup
window with the text The process for the file protocol died
unexpectedly. each time I click on a directory link at the top of the
window or if I select a bookmark.

If I use open, from the menu or from the icon bar, I get the same message.

kate can be used by using kate -u filename to add a file to the
editor, or by selecting the menu item Open Recent.

This behavior started in my update to this most recent package.
Restarting kate does not help.

Bug#580370: kdebase-bin: When suspending (S3 S4) screen locking can be avoided in a specific circumstance

2010-05-05 Thread Sheridan Hutchinson
Package: kdebase-bin
Version: 4:4.4.3-1
Severity: important

This is a security bug.

KDE4 has made great efforts to enforce screen locking when a machine is put in
to suspend (S3) or hibernate (S4) modes.

After reviewing KDE 4.4, which recently arrived in sid, I have discovered that
there is only one remaining way of avoiding screen locking preferences.

To reliably reproduce:

1.) Click on the 'K'

2.) Hover the mouse cursor over 'Leave'

3.) Click shutdown

4.) A new dialog will appear. Hold and press the left mouse-button on the text
'Turn off your computer' and select either suspend to RAM or suspend to disk
(whichever your poison).

5.) Your machine will suspend as commanded.

6.) Resume your machine, to find any previously set screen locking preferences
are evaded.

Bug#525877: Plugins now visible

2010-05-05 Thread Moshe Yudkowsky
Not all plugins are visible.

The plugins in the release I am currently using, 4:3.5.9-2, seem to work
better: the plugins that are visible remain both enabled and properly
configured between logins. (In previous iterations, the plugins would
not remain enabled, and if re-enabled, e.g., tab bar, the configuration
would vanish.)

Having said that, I notice that some plugins are still not visible. The
XML Validation plugin is visible, but the xmltools plugin is not
visible. That's the one I'm particularly interested in...

My apologies for the slow response to your request. My current config is
below. I also have a new bug related to kate, 580355; the thought
crosses my mind that the Filesystem Browser interacts poorly with Kate
and causes the problem I report there, but even when that plugin is
disabled I still have problems.

Also, I bring to your attention that reportbug kate does not list
plugins, as you will notice in the output below.

I have a own background image for kdm tuned for the right size. Until
the last update it was working well. Now with the newest version the
background disappears and only a black background is displayed. (If that
helps, my background is a JPEG mostly black with a motive on the upper
right position.)

Hi,

Thanks to take care of the bug.

So the bug is gone now.

Please note that the debian bugtracker says that the bug is in version

Bug#580396: libkio5 exit handler crashes

2010-05-05 Thread Remi Denis-Courmont
Package: libkio5
Version: 4:4.4.3-1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

Hello,

libkio5 appears to register a buggy exit handler.
This triggers a crash after VLC returns from its main(),
if and only if the Open file dialog has been shown.
libkio is loaded by KDE dialog plugins for libQt4Gui,
as VLC does not use KDE directly in any way.

Hi,

automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the
same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has
detected the following problem:

Selecting previously deselected package libkimono-cil-dev.

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail, and violates
sections 7.6.1 and 10.1 of the policy. An optimal solution would

Here is a list of files that are known to be shared by both packages

Bug#580420: konqueror does not report cleartext content in https pages

2010-05-05 Thread Daniel Kahn Gillmor
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:4.3.4-1
Severity: normal

Most web browsers show a lock and/or change the address bar to
indicate that an https site has been connected to via TLS. konqueror
shows (afaict) a green shield with a check-mark. Fair enough.

But other browsers also indicate a broken lock or something similar
when an https page sources plain http content (e.g. in an img,
stylesheet, or script). This is to indicate to the user (who can't
tell which pieces of content are served over encrypted channels and
which ones are exposed in transit) that the rendered page is not
entirely confidential communication.

Konqueror does not display this state to the user, so konqueror users
are vulnerable to data being sent in the clear without their
knowledge.

Thanks for maintaining konqueror in debian,

Bug#580438: phonon: Output device preferences are not applied

2010-05-05 Thread Elora HRanma
Package: phonon
Version: 4:4.6.0really4.4.0-4
Severity: normal

Using phonon-backend-xine, I have a list of output devices including
HDA NVidia (AD198x Analog), Esound (ESD), HDA NVidia (AD198x Digital) and
others. That is the order in which I have set the preferences, since all but
the first fail to work or, in the case of the second and third show a message
stating that they did not respond, and fall back to the AD198x Analog.

However, when I launch Amarok 2, it displays a pop up which says that Esound is
not available and will thus fall back to AD198x Analog. Since this is the
preferred device, it should be used automatically, but it looks like it is not.

Bug#580444: [akregator] 4.4.3-1 cannot start and consume almost 100% CPU

2010-05-05 Thread Liang Guo
Package: akregator
Version: 4:4.4.3-1
Severity: minor

After upgrade akregator from 4.3.4 to 4.4.3 in Debian/sid, akregator cannot
start and consume almost 100% CPU.

After remove ~/.kde/share/apps/akregator/Archive, akregator works fine , seeds
still exist, but old Articles lost.

I think this is cause by akregator 4.4.3 don't compatible with 4.3.4 Archive
format
