Bug#584861: kdebase-workspace-data: File conflict with ksplash (/usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x1128/apps/ksplash.png)
Package: kdebase-workspace-data Version: 4:4.4.3-1 Severity: serious User: debian-...@lists.debian.org UserTags: debian-edu When trying to upgrade KDE from Lenny to Squeeze, the upgrade fail because kdebase-workspace-data refuses to install because ksplash version 4:3.9.5.dfsg.1-6+lenny1 is already installed and they share the file /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x1128/apps/ksplash.png. I guess some kind of breaks/conflicts/replaces should be used here to ensure upgrades go smooth. And it still happens with KDE 4.4.4. I think this bug should be fixed before Squeeze, thus I am cc'ing KDEPIM developers with a plea for help. Otherwise all Squeeze users will likely see this pretty annoying bug for one year at least until Debian Squeeze +1 is out. As noted in the upstream bug, this is hopefully fixed now, or at least substantially improved. I apt-get'ed the sources for kdepimlibs and copied the three modified files from KDE 4.4 branch into it. Installting libakonadi-kde from the newly built packages fixed the problem for me. Further testing very welcome. Cheers, Kevin signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Bug#584905: plasma-netbook not auto-starting on a fresh install
Package: plasma-netbook Version: 4:4.4.4-1 Severity: important On Mon, Jun 7, 2010 at 3:39 PM, Brendon Higgins blhigg...@gmail.com wrote: Hi list, I think I've found a reason why plasma-netbook doesn't autostart. /usr/share/autostart/plasma-netbook.desktop doesn't exist. The equivalent, plasma-desktop.desktop, does exist (in the plasma-desktop package). Presumably, this is why plasma-desktop will autostart, whereas plasma-netbook won't. Now I don't know if plasma-netbook.desktop ought to exist given upstream sources, or not. A quick search in KDE sources doesn't find anything, yet apparently there is such a file in Ubuntu (Lucid). :-S I guess the Ubuntu file could be distro custom. I should file a bug with KDE, perhaps? Peace, Brendon I'm turning this email into a bug report, since this seems to be a packaging problem. The relevant kubuntu patch seems to be this one [1] and it seems it has been removed from the 4.5 beta packages, with a changelog message indicating it has been fixed upstream, although I see no plasma-netbook.desktop in their plasma-netbook.install file. I don't fully understand though how this is going to work when one has both plasma-desktop and plasma-netbook installed... are they both going to be autostarted? Also, why does plasma-netbook autostart when plasma-desktop is installed and a netbook form factor is selected in systemsettings? When playing test sound, i can see sound process in pavucontrol, i can change it's volume, starting volume is not 0%, but speakers remains silent and volume meters (pavumeter) also shows no activity. Strange, but about 1/10 times sound plays and everything is normal. I'm not sure if it's really phonon-backend-xine's bug, or it's xine itself, because i've also having bug described at launchpad (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xine-ui/+bug/231507), but that one looks different - when starting playback with xine, it's volume in pavucontrol is 0% and when i set it to some value (no matter, in xine-ui or in pavucontrol) i can hear sound. Gstreamer backend works. Too bad it conflicts with amarok, so i can't use it also. Sorry for messy report, please tell me if you need some more information. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages phonon-backend-xine depends on: ii libc6 2.10.2-9 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libphonon4 4:4.6.0really4.4.1-2 the core library of the Phonon mul ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.6.2-5Qt 4 D-Bus module ii libqtcore4 4:4.6.2-5Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui4 4:4.6.2-5Qt 4 GUI module ii libstdc++6 4.4.4-2 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libxcb1 1.6-1X C Binding ii libxine11.1.18.1-1+b2the xine video/media player librar ii libxine1-x 1.1.18.1-1+b2X desktop video output plugins for phonon-backend-xine recommends no packages. phonon-backend-xine suggests no packages. -- no debconf information ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: phonon Source-Version: 4:4.6.0really4.4.2-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of phonon, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: libphonon-dev_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_amd64.deb to main/p/phonon/libphonon-dev_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_amd64.deb libphonon4_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_amd64.deb to main/p/phonon/libphonon4_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_amd64.deb phonon-backend-gstreamer_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_amd64.deb to main/p/phonon/phonon-backend-gstreamer_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_amd64.deb phonon-backend-null_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_all.deb to main/p/phonon/phonon-backend-null_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_all.deb phonon-backend-xine_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_amd64.deb to main/p/phonon/phonon-backend-xine_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_amd64.deb phonon-dbg_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_amd64.deb to main/p/phonon/phonon-dbg_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_amd64.deb phonon_4.6.0really4.4.2-1.debian.tar.gz to main/p/phonon/phonon_4.6.0really4.4.2-1.debian.tar.gz phonon_4.6.0really4.4.2-1.dsc to main/p/phonon/phonon_4.6.0really4.4.2-1.dsc phonon_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_all.deb to main/p/phonon/phonon_4.6.0really4.4.2-1_all.deb phonon_4.6.0really4.4.2.orig.tar.bz2 to main/p/phonon/phonon_4.6.0really4.4.2.orig.tar.bz2 A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
