Bug#709972: kppp doesn't need to run suid

2013-05-27 Thread Mathieu Parent
Package: kppp
Version: 4:4.8.4-1
Severity: serious
Tags: security
X-Debbugs-CC: secur...@debian.org

Hi maintainers,

According to Ilja's report [1] about Linux desktop security, there is
no need to run kppp suid.
According to kppp FAQ:

There is no need for the setuid bit, if you know a bit of UNIX®
systems administration. Simply create a modem group, add all users
that you want to give access to the modem to that group and make the
modem device read/writable for that group.

kdm working authenticating against a directory with pam_ldap here;
however, if a password change is forced by the admin, kdm prompts for
the new password, but keeps prompting over and over no matter what is
entered. After a while it segfaults. There really isn't anything in
the logs to go by, and pam_ldap seem to ignore the debug argument
I've passed it. Please note that login works fine with this feature.

My common-passwd is:
password required pam_ldap.so debug
password required pam_unix.so nullok obscure min=4 max=8 debug

I've tried commenting out pam_unix altogether, it doesn't make a difference.

Package: kde-window-manager

I have a dual monitor twinview configuration. What worked
good in KDE 3.5.9 is now broken:

1.
It's not possible to tell KDE (4.2.2) to maximize a window
only to the size of one monitor instead of maximizing it
over the whole desktop (two monitors).

2.
It's not possible to tell KDE 4.2.2 to open a window on
a specific monitor (in my case, the right one).

Others (users of the debian NG) report, that their windows
maximize always to one monitor and they cannot find a setting
to tell KDE to maximize over two monitor. They use an older
Qt-Version so this might be related.

What works is, that I can tell KDE to use different background
images. When configuring the login manager (system settings)
both monitors are recognized and identified as '1' and '2'.

In the display settings dialog, there's no sign that I use
two monitors. Everything looks like I had one monitor with
a setting of 2048x960 (just like pure xinerama). The button
'identify output' recognizes the whole desktop as one
named 'default'.

I made screenshots, that show the problem. They can be
found here:

http://81.169.152.37/screens/xinerama-1.jpeg
http://81.169.152.37/screens/xinerama-2.jpeg
http://81.169.152.37/screens/xinerama-3.jpeg
http://81.169.152.37/screens/xinerama-4.jpeg

Other window managers (I testet at least icewm) maximize the
window to only one monitor using the same xorg.conf setting.

My xorg.conf can be found here:

http://81.169.152.37/screens/xorg.conf

Thanks for reading.

Package: kopete

When trying to connect to the ICQ server, kopete aborts after milliseconds
with the error $ID disconnected, where $ID is the ICQ number of my user.
This is completely reproducable.

Testing a different ICQ user there is no error, so it seems to be user
dependant.

Using another ICQ client (centericq) works for the problematic user, too,
without errors or problems, so only the combination of a specific user and
kopete leads to the error.

The problem exists for some weeks now, and it seems I am not the only one with
that problem:
http://www.nabble.com/kopete-in-Lenny-defekt-!--td24889303.html
http://debianforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29t=113722
Unfortunately both pages are in German, but effectively they have the same
problem. The only known solution is using a different client. According to the
first report the problem could be related with a wrong checksum of a network
packet, but I do not know if that is related somehow.

Please tell me, if I should provide more information or do a network sniff
myself. I could not provide log files, as I did not find any.

On a fresh install when the user logs in the first time into kde4, the
startup-sound plays as normal (but the volume-icon won't show up!). In kde
system settings - multimedia, the audio test with the sound card (first entry)
works fine.

However, when doing a clean reboot and logging in the same user again, phonon
shows a notification that there's a problem with the sound card and it will
fall back to PulseAudio:

Notification from Phonon: KDE's Multimedia Library
The audio playback device NVidia CK804 with ALC850 does not work.
 Falling back to PulseAudio.

After this notification, the volume is reset to zero. Sound works (I guess via
PulseAudio, don't know) when set to a higher volume again. This happens on
every reboot (not when just logged out and logged in again).

Hi,

akonadiserver never starts due to it trying to create a column in
schemaversiontable
when it starts, 'version' column, and just exits instead of continuing on once
it sees
it's there already. IME/IMO, it should just continue once it's sees this is the
case,
and the schema is up to date. it should be noted i'm trying to use the
postgresql driver.

 .
   * New upstream release.
   * Add myself to Uploaders.
   * Update Homepage, Vcs-Browser and Vcs-Git in debian/control.
   * Add changes done by Ubuntu:
 Timo Jyrinki:
   - Update debian/watch.
   - Update debian/copyright.
 Felix Geyer:
   - Compress binary packages with xz.
   - Build qtcreator out-of-source.
   - Link Qt Creator against the system botan library instead of using
 the bundled one.
 - Add botan_system_lib.diff slightly adapted from openSUSE.
 - Build-depend on libbotan1.10-dev and pkg-config.
   - Drop Use_bzr_branch_instead_of_bzr_clone.patch and
 Fix_revno_detection_in_bzr_log.patch: merged upstream.
   - Don't call dh_makeshlibs as qtcreator doesn't provide any public shared
 libraries.
   * Remove posix_rt_nonlinux.diff. It applies against 3rd party botan, but we
are now using the system botan.
   * Export CFLAGS, CXXFLAGS, LDFLAGS for hardening and QT_SELECT to choose qt4.
   * Change Depends and Recommends of packages qtcreator and qtcreator-doc.
   * Update 02_use_x-terminal-emulator.diff. The changes seems to come from
Ubuntu, but I don't know who did it.
   * Remove unused patch posix_rt_nonlinux.diff.
   * Make every package that ships a binary managed by qtchooser depend on it.
   * Build the documentation using qmake. Taken from Ubuntu.
   * Override dh_install to pass --fail-missing.
   * Tell git to use dpkg-mergechangelogs on merging changelogs.
   * Update install files:
 - Fix documentation path.
 - Do not install the private version of libbotan, we are not using it.

Using openbox, not kde; when trying to use kstart --alldesktops from the
command line, all
existing windows are set to all desktops, but oddly, not the application being
started with
kstart. Even minimized applications are brought back to the desktop and made
sticky to all
desktops.

Hi
I am using lxde for desktop manager and when I launch konqueror and select the
text of the address field, klipper shows a menu and the focus get lost, so I
have to reselect again. This behavior is annoying and is not supposed to happen
because konqueror is on the list of the applications for whom the actions are
disabled. The only way I found to fix that is to remove all actions because
unchecking enable actions work only for the current session because it is not
persistent (see bug #528125).

Hi

Sometimes I just lose my keyboard and it won't respond anymore under
kde. I can help myself by changing to a system console and restart kdm.
Not sure what debugging information you'd want me to include. I am happy
to collect some files next time it occurs. Sorry for not giving more
details in this initial report.

Cheers
Steffen

Package: konqueror
Version: 4:4.6.5-1

Dear Maintainer, Tue Jul 31 06:35:55 PM EDT 2012
I am trying to upgrade my system Debian Wheezy, using various
commands as superuser (the symbol # is the superuser propt):

 # apt-get update; apt-get -y upgrade
 # apt-get update; apt-get -y -f dist-upgrade
 # apt-get update; apt-get -y dist-upgrade
 # apt-get update; aptitude -y safe-upgrade
 # apt-get update; aptitude -y full-upgrade
 # apt-get update; apt-get -y upgrade konqueror
 # apt-get update; apt-get -y upgrade apt
 # apt-get update; apt-get -y -f install

Each of these commands produces an error message, and I believe
nothing is upgraded. For example,
 # apt-get update; apt-get -y upgrade
ends with the message

You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 kde-baseapps-bin : Depends: kde-baseapps-data (= 4:4.8.4-1) but it is not
installed
kdepasswd : Depends: kde-baseapps-data (= 4:4.8.4-1) but it is not installed
 konqueror : Depends: kdebase-bin (= 4:4.6.5-1) but 4:4.8.4-1 is installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

   Then trying
 # apt-get update; apt-get -y -f install
ends with the message

Errors were encountered while processing:
 /var/cache/apt/archives/konqueror_4%3a4.8.4-1_amd64.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

All the other commands listed gives errors. I would be happy
to provide more information if needed.

Sorry that we haven't addressed this issue yet, but we are a bit swamped in
1300 bug reports and sometimes things fall past the cracks. If this is
unsatisfactory, you are most welcome to join in or alternatively contact your
software vendor and ask for a refund.

Attached is a patch fixing the problem. It is untested, since I don't
feel like installing all the dependencies to build kde4libs. You could
also just define KDE_NO_DEBUG_OUTPUT, but that might be a bit much.

Just as a note, this bug has been present in KDE for at least the last
decade. I didn't mean to be so blunt, but as a non-KDE user, it pops up
at the most inconvenient times, and it is rather annoying when it does,
since it forces me to abandon a terminal that I'm working in, usually

About gpgme1.0 (1.4.1-0.1) and libpth-dev

2013-05-27 Thread Maximiliano Curia
¡Hola!

In your upload of gpgme1.0, you dropped the libpth-dev build-dep which
means that libgpgme-pth.so is not generated. This causes a FTBFS for
kdepimlibs, and also breaks the current libgpgme++2 in unstable and testing.

This is not the expected way to handle libraries and transitions. Please,
whenever you deal with libraries you need to have extra care not to mess up
with the packages that depend on it.

Is there any reason for the drop? If not, please add it again.

Happy hacking,

I have just tried what you described with qtcreator 2.7.0-1 and could not
reproduce this bug.

On the other hand, in case this stills applies for you, it's just a wishlist
bug, so I'm lowering the severity to that value. And I really think this is a
problem on your window manager, as Qt creator just follows Qt's behaviour.

Hello,

the bug you reported is a KDE bug. Please report it via
Help - Report bug... menu item of the respective application
or by visiting https://bugs.kde.org/ and following instructions
to report a new bug.

Debian Qt/KDE maintainers do not have resources to deal with
non Debian-specific bugs and therefore it is unlikely that
your bug will be solved if you do not report it to KDE developers
directly (unless it is/has been reported by somebody else).

Whenever you open a bug report on the KDE bug tracking system, or
you find that the bug has been already reported on it, you can couple
both this Debian bug and the KDE bug together by sending a mail with
the text below to control at bugs.debian.org (replace KDE-BUG-URL with
the address of the bug report on https://bugs.kde.org/)

Dear Debian folks,

Qt Creator crashed for me when clicking through the sidebar and the
following lines were printed to the terminal.

SOFT ASSERT: i != -1 in file taskmodel.cpp, line 172
SOFT ASSERT: i != -1 in file taskmodel.cpp, line 172

I am not sure if that is the cause of the crash, but I was able to find
an upstream issue for it [1]. And we are lucky, that it is marked as
fixed in Qt Creator 2.6. It would be great if the patch could be
backported.

Thanks,

Paul
