Bug#652583: [kdm] greeter doesn't reappear after logout from kde

I just switch to vt 1 and then back to vt 7 and there's kdm back, no need to restart X. Also, do you have an Intel video card? Lisandro Damián Nicanor Pérez Meyer wrote: I just switch to vt 1 and then back to vt 7 and there's kdm back, no need to restart X. Tested it now; in my machine the greeter screen is still black after returning from a console vt. Also, do you have an Intel video card? No; as I mentioned, it's a Radeon HD 6320. Wondering if tweaking some specific X parameter could somehow force 'refreshing' (if, as it seems, the greeter is actually there but invisible). Anyway, following the suggestion in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1665405 I uncommented TerminateServer=true in /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc and now the greeter shows up nicely after logut (maybe also generically useful (in a preventive way) in order to get a 'cleaner' restart?). Getting this or similar with kdm 4:4.7.4-2 in Wheezy (in a Asus Eee with Radeon HD 6320) --- but even though the screen is black, it seems that the greeter may be there: the mouse cursor changes when over what seems to be an input area... Stopping kdm and starting it again, (/etc/init.d/kdm stop, then start) the greeter shows up normally again (vt7). Bug#652583: [kdm] greeter doesn't reappear after logout from kde
Package: kdm Version: 4:4.6.5-3 Severity: normal --- Please enter the report below this line. --- There is only a black screen. According to ps the kdm process is still running, though. '/etc/init.d/kdm restart' as root enables logging in again, but the X server on vt7 is killed, and a new one is started on vt8. After subsequent logouts and kdm restarts the X server always comes up on vt8. Why does it move on the first restart, but doesn't move later I'm using unthemed greeter btw.
