It seems ekiga has important regressions when compared to gnomemeeting,
 in particular:
 - unusable under PPC, seems like an endianness issue, probably on other
   arches as well
 - no IPv6 support

Which are now two serious bugs.

Are the Security and Release team still preferring the removal of
 gnomemeeting from etch?

Request for permission to upload sl-modem through t-p-u for l10n purposes

2007-03-04 Thread Christian Perrier
The sl-modem package currently has a 2.9.9d+e-pre2-9 version in
unstable. The version in testing is 2.9.9d+e-pre2-7

The unstable version has changes that make it unsuitable for a freeze
exception obviously.

Some debconf templates translations in testing are incomplete while
they're complete in unstable.

I hereby request for the permission to upload a fixed
2.9.9d+e-pre2-7etch1 version in t-p-u with translations grabbed from
unstable.

Of course, if Eduard, the maintainer, prefers doing it himself, I will
let him do it (please contact me, Eduard, to get the needed changes).

Please unblock lm-sensors/1:2.10.1-3

2007-03-04 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Hi,

I have just uploaded a new version of lm-sensors, which includes not
code change, but only a change of the upstream URL. I have been asked to
do so by upstream, as this URL appears on the packages.d.o page, and
as they do not plan to have a redirection for a very long time.

Could you please unblock it?

Unblocked and bumped the urgency, but getting this in depends on someone
being available to trigger a britney rerun before the next dinstall.

2007-03-04 Thread Robert Luberda

Hi,

Unfortunatelly I had been bitten by #364510 and mis-uploaded new
upstream version of sysstat to unstable instead of experimental.

I'd like to ask you to force sysstat 7.0.0-4 to testing (if it is
possible) before today dinstall run, when it'll get overwriten by
the newer version. The 7.0.0-4 has been in unstable for 5 days.

sysstat (7.0.0-4) unstable; urgency=low

If I remove all the useless stuff (.svn stuff that crept in, upstream
Changelog which for some reason had a number of changes, autotools
noise, debian patches that have been incorporated into upstream, NOOP
RCS header date changes, fedora yum repo gpg key change (unrelated to
debian) gentoo initscript changes (unrelated to debian), redhat initpost
changes (unrelated to debian), documentation changes
(doc/configuration.html, configuration-xhtml.xsl, configuration.xml),
redhat spec file changes (unrelated to debian) and the THANKS change,
leaves:

58 files changed, 189 insertions(+), 446 deletions(-)

Removing the 20+ trivial fixes of:

- -   WRITE_MSG(2, " --help\" for more information.\n");
+   WRITE_MSG(2, " --help' for more information.\n");

Leaves 40 changes, 169 insertions(+), 426 deletions, not that much when
you consider a new kernel API is supported.

The reason for requesting this is to make etch+.5 transition smoother,
and as I understand it, a newer kernel is expected to be introduced in
etch+.5, and anything newer than 2.6.18 will break all vserver support.
Additionally, any user who installs a backported kernel, or a
hand-rolled one, will be unable to use vservers with 0.30.211-6.

Dear release team,

I have just adopted id3ren and in the process fixed the important bug
#369260. id3ren has no rdepends and this bug is a regression from
previous versions, so I see no problem allowing it into testing.

The changelog is:

 id3ren (1.1b0-3) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Adopt package. (Closes: #365641)
   * Move filename sanitization to around tag contents,
not resulting filename, and enable '/' replacement.
 Closes: #369260

Please consider hinting this for testing.

Thanks,

Please unblock apache/1.3.34-4.1

2007-03-04 Thread Matthew Johnson

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Dear release team,

My NMU of apache to close #357561 has just been uploaded. It closes a
security vulnerability which was only not RC due to it being terminal
related. I feel that even so, when a fix is available it should be
allowed into Etch. The changelog entry is as follows:

 apache (1.3.34-4.1) unstable; urgency=low
 .
   * Non-Mainainer Upload.
   * Revert 033_-F_NO_SETSID patch and re-fix #244857 in such a way that a
local root hole is not created (Closes: #357561)

The change I made is to revert 033_-F_NO_SETSID, but retain it's functionality
by adding 033_SETSID_allowfail which still calls setsid, but allows it to fail
when the -F flag has been specified to apache without it exiting.
514_nice_proxy_cache_cleanup is patched against the same bit of file, so this
has been changed so that it applies cleanly.

This is a minimal change and has been confirmed to still solve the problem for
which 033_-F_NO_SETSID was introduced.

Thanks,

Matt

The question if the change is acceptable for Etch and if it is worth
delaying D-I RC2 for it, is for the RMs to answer.
The only information I can give is that ssh _is_ included in some D-I
initrds and thus I would have to delay the upload of debian-installer
until they have migrated to testing.

If the RMs decide to accept this change, openssh should be uploaded ASAP
with priority high. Of course, at this late stage of the release you
should also be absolutely certain that the change will not break
anything.

Cheers,
FJP

The upgrade process from ssh-krb5 to openssh-client and openssh-server is
still broken, albeit in a more minor way. I've filed two patches (#404863
and #407766) that should fix the remaining issues.

OpenSSH produces a udeb package.

I'd really like to have this upgrade be clean for etch if possible, since
I believe there's a substantial install base of ssh-krb5 at academic
institutions with large Kerberos infrastructures. Is there any hope of
getting an additional OpenSSH upload that includes these two patches?
Neither of these patches are large and they only affect the ssh-krb5
transitional package. I'm happy to help with an NMU if desired.

10 days is too late to my liking. Please do an upload with priority high
or at least medium.
See the D-I RC2 release schedule for reference:

Ah, OK, which makes a lot of sense why you wouldn't need any of the
e2fsprogs udebs. Sorry, one of these days I need to read up and
understand the whole d-i architecture.

So would I be correct in assuming that there is no objections to my
uploading a bug-fixed e2fsprogs udebs to unstable, and then requesting
the release-team for a freeze exception to get these moved into
testing ten days hence?

There is more to d-i than just the initrds...
The udebs are loaded in the course of the installation (either from CD or
over the network), more precisely when the partitioning components are
being loaded. The initrds only contain those components required to start
up the installation and make it possible to retrieve all other
components.

Yes, they are very much used and needed.

Please unblock refpolicy/0.0.20061018-4

2007-03-04 Thread Manoj Srivastava
Hi,

This does not impact debian installer, since the new and old
policy packages are almost bit-for-bit identical, modulo version
number change, and one change that allows the TCP based openvpn
 products to work.

The major addition in this upload, apart from a README.Debian
change, is the creation of a new binary package (which does not
conflict with any of the old packages) that allows people to build
 local policy modules.

I confess that I did not initially see the need for this,
since everyone I know who builds policy modules also hacks at the
policy source, but with the wider deployment of SELinux I think it is
important to let local policy module building for site specific
 policy more usable.

Also, in the new -dev package, lives a SELinux policy version
of deb_make, called policygentool, that greatly simplifies creation
of a policy module interactively. I think this is very useful for our
 Etch users.

manoj

refpolicy (0.0.20061018-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Bug fix: "selinux-policy-refpolicy-targeted: does not suggest a way to
fix the 'maybe failing' attempt in postinst", thanks to Eddy Petrisor.
While this does not belong in the postinst, I have addedthis to the
README.Debian file. This should be a low risk change. (Closes: #407691).
  * Bug fix: "Default build.conf doesn't match default strict/targeted
policy", thanks to Stefan. The build.conf included in the reference
source policy describe to build a policy of the type "strict". The
default binary policies coming with Debian are build with the policy
type "strict-mcs" or "targeted-mcs". Change the build.conf shipped in
source to conform to what we really use. (changes TYPE=strict to
TYPE=strict-mcs, very low risk change.(Closes: #411256).
  * Bug fix: "selinux-policy-refpolicy-targeted: openvpn policy do not
allow tcp connection mode", thanks to Rafal Kupka. This bug really
should be at least important, and we should fully support a class of
security product like OpenVPN on machines which are running SELinux,
and this is a very low risk change.(Closes: #409041).
  * Install header files required for policy building for both strict and
targeted policies in a new -dev package, so it becomes really useful
to work with the source package. Moved the examples from the -src
package to this new -dev package, since the example is only useful in
with the headers provided. This is a new package, but it contains only
files already in the sources (No upstream changes at all), and is the
result of make install-headers. This new package has no rdepends, and
should be a very low risk addition to Debian.
  * This release should be a whole lot better for building local policies,
including the policygentool for creating a new policy from scratch,
and ability to build local policy modular packages. The build.conf
files have been cleaned up, and the source policy defaults to targeted
policy, which is standard in Debian, as opposed to the strict policy,
which has priority optional.

Unfreeze of a number of packages

2007-03-04 Thread Ola Lundqvist
Hi

I would like you to unfreeze a number of packages:

* ntop
Correction of a crash and japanese translation
* cron-apt
Added missing dependency on cron
This is an important fix.
* dpsyco
Correction of a very annoying error message
* vnc4
Terminal handling improvement.
Not that important but useful.

* kernel-patch-openvz
And finally I would like you to consider to accept the version
of kernel-patch-openvz that I have uploaded to experimental.
I know that this is a quite big change but there are a number
of reasons why it should be done.

1) Upstream push to have this version incorporated to stable
as they consider the 015.1 version to be much more stable
than the 007.1 version that is in testing now.
2) I have tested to build the kernel on sparc, amd64, 486, 686
and k7 architectures, and it all went well.
3) It has been regression tested on 486 architecture as all
   other uploads have.
4) The package is rather new so it have not received
that much testing anyway as I'm one of the ones that have
   tested it most.

A quite big number of corrections have been made to this
kernel patch.

http://git.openvz.org/?p=linux-2.6.18-openvz;a=log;h=028test015;pg=1

If you accept this version (which I suggest you to do), I'll upload
it to unstable so you can unlock it.

Best regards,

// Ola

Please unblock policycoreutils/1.32-2

2007-03-04 Thread Manoj Srivastava
Hi,

This is a release that prevents running setfiles with no file
path (the file path is a required argument to setfiles) if no
writeable SELinux capable filesystems exist on the target
machine. This came up when someone tried to install SELinux o0n a
machine with just reiserfs filesystems, and reiserfs does not support
the xattr functionality SELinux uses for setting security labels on
filesystem object. The fix is just a check to see if any fileststems
were found, and issueing a diagnostic if not; this is just a shell
 if()  conditional.

This upload also changes diagnostic messages (no valid FS),
changes an audit2allow error message to not mention "rpm" packages,
updates a man page, and is wholly low risk.

This does not impact the debian installer.

manoj

policycoreutils (1.32-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Bug fix: "policycoreutils: fixfiles should warn if no suitable fs
found", thanks to David Härdeman. This was a missing simple check --
now fixfiles does not attempt to run setfiles on an empty set if it
did not find a valid directory. Low risk, simple test. (Closes: #397198).
  * Bug fix: "policycoreutils: audit2allow line 135 should refer to debian
package", thanks to Russell Coker. It now asks the users to install
the checkpolicy package, not the chckpolicy rpm package.
   (Closes: #401369).
  * Bug fix: "policycoreutils: patch for semanage.8", thanks to Russell
Coker. This adds some options that had been missing from the man page.
   (Closes: #406702).
  * Bug fix: "policycoreutils: fixfiles excludes reiserfs", thanks to
David Härdeman. Actually, it should: Support for atomic inode labeling
has not been implemented in reiserfs, so there is no SELinux support
for it. This is documented in selinux-doc. Reiser just won't label
files when they are created making it basically worthless for xattr
labeling. (Closes: #397196).

I doubt a very much faster procedure would be possible. As I've said
before, syncing things to testing and doing the builds just takes time,
partly because of the manual actions involved.
This schedule already assumes that Jeroen and James will respond promptly
to sync and byhand requests.
I intend to follow up on things as fast as possible, but I also don't
think it is a good idea to skip final testing.

Please unblock gtk+2.0/2.8.20-6 (has udeb)

2007-03-04 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi there,

Please unblock gtk+2.0/2.8.20-6 which has an udeb and was uploaded this
morning with urgency high. The changelog entry is as follows:
  * New patch, 040_ia32-libs.patch, for ia32-libs support via ia32-libs-gtk;
based on a patch by Goswin von Brederlow with the following changes: a)
use .32 and .64 suffixes in all cases (compatible with Ubuntu), b) fix
typo, c) use g_file_test() instead of g_access(); does not cover module
loading via env vars; closes: #406453.
and the upload adds the attached patch which permits preferring
alternate Gtk runtime files when running Gtk 32-bits under a 64-bits
arch and vice-versa. This is targetted for use in ia32-libs
(ia32-libs-gtk) which provides 32-bits libs to users of the amd64
architecture which need to run 32-bits programs using these libs (e.g.
 acroread, the flash plugin etc.).

This shouldn't affect the udeb, but obviously fjp has the final word.

[ I know it's terribly late, and I apologize for not uploading earlier,
but I kept postponing adding this patch because I wanted to handle more
cases (environment vars in particular). None of the other
distributions with the patch handle this though (with the exception of
OpenSuse with GTK_PATH64, but no other env vars), so I suppose it's
good enough for the kludge that ia32-libs is anyway. ]

Yes, very true.

Which I guess brings me to another question, and I'll *completely*
understand if the release team says NO. If I'm going to do an uplod,
and if the d-i images are going to be respun anyway, would you mind if
I also slipstream in the following very low-risk patch:

http://thunk.org/hg/e2fsprogs/?cs=1619c81226d1

It's a four-line addition to debugfs to prevent a core-dump if
"dump_unused" is run while a filesystem is not open:

sor:~ # debugfs
debugfs 1.39 (29-May-2006)
debugfs: dump_unused
Segmentation fault

Basically the fix involves adding an error check to detect this case
so it's a very low-risk change. It represents the only other bug
which has been fixed in my source tree since the version of e2fsprogs
currently in testing. But this would cause the source requirements
for d-i to require the d-i images to be respun, and the bug that it
fixes is relatively low-priority, so if the answer is please don't,
I'll completely understand and only upload the one-line change to
debian/control:

http://thunk.org/hg/e2fsprogs/?cs=69a666bd25f5

After all, the function of release managers is to counteract
developers' natural desire to fix "one last bug" or add "one last
feature" when it might end up delaying the release, no? :-)

- Ted

Damm, I forgot to check for the dependencies, acr38 is stalled due to
pcsc-lite :/

Could I have the permission to upload directly to testing? package
version is 1.7.9-1etch1, same changes than 1.7.9-2.

Steve, I feel you are missing the point here. The reason I feel it is not
correct to allow packages that build udebs included in any D-I initrd
into Etch after RC2 has been built is as follows.

D-I has package management, including a /var/lib/dpkg/status file. For
udebs that are included in a D-I initrd, the status file in that initrd
lists the exact version of the udebs included when the initrd was built.
So, if you allow new versions into etch after initrds have been built,
there will no longer be a source package available in the distribution
that matches the version listed in the status file.
IMO that would be violation of the source requirements, even if the change
does not affect the udeb.

I do agree that just "built against a previous version" would not be an
issue, but with D-I this is not the real issue. The issue is that a udeb
is included integrally _as a package_ in the initrds.

Hope this clarifies my reasoning on this subject.

Cheers,
FJP

In this case it is not a problem because, AFAICT, none of the udebs built
with e2fsprogs are included in any D-I initrd.
I will reply separately to d-release with my reasons why I feel it would
be a bad idea if it *had* been included in any initrd.

unblock request: dbconfig-common 1.8.31

2007-03-04 Thread sean finney
hey folks,

i just did an upload of dbconfig-common to unstable, which contains a
large number of debconf translations supplied by the latest il8n
efforts. there are no code changes from the previous version (1.8.30),
but the previous version is not currently in etch afaik.

wrt the changes between the etch version (1.8.29) and the version in
sid: it's almost entirely bugfixes and it has been in unstable for over
a month without any bugreports. to give you an idea of the changes,
here's the changelog entry from 1.8.30:

  * remove some "-a" and "-o" bashisms.
  * dbconfig-load-include now returns the exit status of the "exec"
format (where the output is based on running a script), if
appropriate.
thanks to Matt Brown for the patch (closes: #397089).
  * single-quote settings in /etc/dbconfig-common/package.conf instead
of double-quoting them, and make sure any single quotes in the
settings are properly escaped when written.
  * escape SQL-sensitive character sequences in passwords for user
creation SQL snippits.
  * escape shell/sed sensitive character sequences that are used in
dbconfig-generate-include (closes: #405598).
  * another dpkg order-of-operations corner case: if unpacked but not
(pre-)configured, our debconf templates aren't registered yet, so
if some dependant package tries to use us in such a state (i.e. its
config is run before ours), fail gracefully and let its postinst
script pick up the work with a second config run.

OOI, are any of these dates fixed by calendar considerations? E.g., even if

until the 9th because that's the first chance anyone will have?

I'm sure the release/ftp teams will happily do whatever possible to move
things forward ahead of schedule, even if it's just to give you more slack
elsewhere in the schedule.

> If someone feels this is a bad idea, please speak up :-)

Sounds good to me. It's nice to see we're getting close!

Thanks. I'm doing a small call for new translations and will update
both the testing and unstable versions.

2007-03-04 Thread Christian Perrier

Dear release team,

I would suggest numbering it 1.5.0-1+etch1 instead of 1.5.0-1.1, for
clarity.

Please don't change debhelper levels during a freeze.

Otherwise, yes, this looks like an important change to have for the package
in etch.

Request for permission to upload nufw through t-p-u for l10n and debconf QA purposes

2007-03-04 Thread Christian Perrier
The nufw package currently has a 1.0.23-1.1 version in unstable. The
version in testing is 2.0.9-5.2

The debconf templates in testing are quite badly written and some of
them are even impossible to understand.

In the same time, most of these templates were rewritten for the 2.0.9
version in a NMU I did back in December.

In the same time, all translations in testing are strongly outdated
because the maintainer ommitted to run debconf-updatepo. So while some
PO files appear as complete they are about 60% complete.

I hereby propose the following:

- for common templates, bring back the text of the unstable version
- for templates that are only in testing, rewrite them to make them
  compliant with the Developer's Reference
- update existing translations with the following method:
  - merge PO files from unstable and testing
  - resync them with the rewritten templates

The result of this, if translations are not updated, is translations
with the same translation ratio than before, so no regression.

Of course, a last action will be:
- call for translation updates

As a consequence, on can expect:

- much better debconf templates
- for some languages, complete translations of these templates

In general, this would slightly enhance the version in testing. Would I ve
authorized to do that upload?

Attached are the changes to the templates files. Other changes will
only include debian/po/*.po files
