 Why?
It's a new upstream release which adds new support for
 5 Canon printers
12 Epson printers
   111 PCL printers
as well as a number of changes for existing supported models.

These are mainly new models which won't be supported in squeeze

Yes, and the same argument holds for the new features of $foobar which

Yes, and the same argument holds for the new features of $foobar which
will not be supported in squeeze because we have frozen.

Sure, but this is hardware support, and users will be stuck with
unusable printers if they don't have the current stable release
(and I must emphasise that this is a stable upstream release that
they have tested extensively--gutenprint upstream is very
conservative and this is just a point release of a very well
tested stable series). This should not be a risky update--
it does not introduce new features, and it almost all purely
support for new printer models; the core logic is unchanged.

Gutenprint has an extensive testsuite--it takes several tens of hours
to run--and it's passed that.

I disagree. Sorry, I really don't see how we can reasonably review
 this.

(I have looked over the diffs, and I was the original author of
a good chunk of it.)

The driver logic is separated into two parts
1) XML metadata
2) Code
The XML metadata for each model references code (generally static
tables) that describe inks, paper types, print head features etc.
Support for a new model involves addition of the XML description
and also addition of new tables in code (if different than already
supported models). The changes in this release are mainly XML, plus
some new data tables.

Upstream have also refactored some debugging/assertion macros in
this release, so most of the code changes are just changes in
capitalisation for that. There are also some changes to the
Foomatic generator code to keep up-to-date with current foomatic
(this is just glue logic to integrate with print spoolers other
than CUPS)

It's up to you, but I don't personally think this is a major risk;
I think having support for new hardware is important to have, and
it was just bad timing that we froze 4 days before this 6 month
update.

Roger

 should show the problem

except that it doesn't, it refuses to do upgrade vlc-nox in this
scenario. If forced with 'apt-get install vlc-nox', then I can finally
reproduce the problem.

I now could verify that this indeed fixes the bug properly.

As i tried to describe above APT rates the package which should
be removed as too important - at least compared to the package
it can fix with this remove, so if you see this error or not depends
 on the installed packages:
With ffmpeg is the dependency chain strong enough to indicate
that libavcodec51 has to leave, if you have only vlc-nox (which doesn't
require ffmpeg) installed the chain isn't strong enough.

interesting.

Also, requesting a package explicitly with install will modify the
scoring so you will likely get a different situation compared to a
 dist-upgrade.

as said before, I had to explicitly request the upgrade.

So, in summary: Its possible that no normal user will ever
see this upgrade problem as such a user will likely have more
packages installed which depend on these libav* stuff…
(you only need to define what a normal user is now…)

TBH, I find this bug highly obscure and I think it will not be a problem
in practice. However, we have a patch now uploaded to the archive which
is known to fix the problem.

Dear release team, please unblock ffmpeg_0.5.2-3 for squeeze.

 * Auditor correctly handles chains of empty nonterminals
 * Zone fetcher can block zone transfers if AXFR once failed.
This is a bug in ldns versions 1.6.5 and lower. See KNOWN_ISSUES for
 more information.

Hrm. 1.1.1-2 was unblocked, but you didn't give it enough time to make
it into testing...

And it needs ldns 1.6.6 and dnsruby 1.49 for some bugfixes
Both are also just a bugfix releases, changelogs:

 ldns 1.6.6
 http://www.nlnetlabs.nl/svn/ldns/tags/release-1.6.6/Changelog

   * Fix ldns_rr_clone to copy question rrs properly.
   * Fix ldns_sign_zone(_nsec3) to clone the soa for the new zone.
   * Fix ldns_wire2dname size check from reading 1 byte beyond buffer end.
   * Fix ldns_wire2dname from reading 1 byte beyond end for pointer.
   * Fix crash using GOST for particular platform configurations.
   * extern C declarations used in the header file.
   * Removed debug fprintf from resolver.c.
   * ldns-signzone checks if public key file is for the right zone.
   * NETLDNS, .NET port of ldns functionality, by Alex Nicoll, in contrib.
   * Fix handling of comments in resolv.conf parse.
   * GOST code enabled if SSL recent, RFC 5933.
   * bugfix #317: segfault util.c ldns_init_random() fixed.
   * Fix ldns_tsig_mac_new: allocate enough memory for the hash, fix use of
 b64_pton_calculate_size.
   * Fix ldns_dname_cat: size calculation and handling of realloc().
   * Fix ldns_rr_pop_rdf: fix handling of realloc().
   * Fix ldns-signzone for single type key scheme: sign whole zone if there
 are only KSKs.
   * Fix ldns_resolver: also close socket if AXFR failed (if you don't,
it would block subsequent transfers (thanks Roland van Rijswijk).
 * Fix drill: allow for a secure trace if you use DS records as trust
 anchors (thanks Jan Komissar).

 107 files changed, 10620 insertions(+), 19520 deletions(-)

Most of it seems to be autotools noise, but still... Care to provide a
stripped down diff?

 dnsruby 1.49

If the amount of changes isn't very different from the ones quoted in
your mail, that should be possible. It'd be better to have it as early
as possible, but I'd say if the package was ready to move to testing
(i.e. 10 days old in unstable) by the end of september that would be ok,
I think.

 - would you allow openttd-openmsx to migrate to Squeeze so that
together with (already included) opensfx and opengfx Squeeze will
provide a complete out-of-the box game? (This implies a migration
   of a 1.0.3 or 1.0.4 with Recommends: openttd-openmsx set)
 - would you allow nforenum 4.0.0 to migrate to Squeeze to include a
   normally versions stable release?
 - would you allow grfcodec 1.0.0 to migrate to Squeeze to include a
   normally versions stable release?

If they're ready to move to testing at the same time as openttd I'll
consider them together.

Re: Freeze for LLVM packages

2010-08-29 Thread Stéphane Glondu
Le 29/08/2010 23:10, Arthur Loiret a écrit :
 There you go:

 http://people.debian.org/~aloiret/squeeze/llvm/llvm-2.6_2.6-10.dsc
 http://people.debian.org/~aloiret/squeeze/llvm/llvm-2.6_2.6-10.debdiff

From the diff:
  define libllvm-ocaml-dev_extra_binary
   if test x$* = xlibllvm-ocaml-dev ; then \
 - cp $(D)/debian/$*.META
 $(D)/debian/$*/$(OCAML_STDLIB_DIR)/METAS/META.llvm ; \
 + cp $(D)/debian/$(strip $(call pkgname,$*)).META
 $(D)/debian/$(strip $(call
 pkgname,$*))/$(OCAML_STDLIB_DIR)/METAS/META.llvm-$(UVERSION) ; \
   fi
  endef

This won't work because of . in $(UVERSION). . is reserved for
delimiting subpackages. You should replace them with something else
(e.g. _), or drop punctuation altogether (as in META.llvm27). And the
contents should also reflect the (findlib) package name.

Actually, the same applies for llvm-2.7 as well... The META files should
be fixed for both, or dropped. They are useless as they are (it was fine
when the package name was versionless).

Attached is a (tentatively) fixed META.llvm-2_7 file. Beware that the
directory variable refers to the actual directory (here, llvm-2.7),
and the requires refer to the package name (i.e. the extension of the
META file, here llvm-2_7 or whatever you choose).

And by the way, libllvm-ocaml-2.7-dev doesn't respect OCaml packaging
policy (which is still work in progress...) and is not handled by
dh_ocaml (the virtual package with ABI hash is not provided)...
something like libllvm-2.7-ocaml-dev would be better.

Cheers,

Freeze exception for mupdf 0.7-1

2010-08-29 Thread Kan-Ru Chen
Hi,

I'd like to upload a new upstream release that should fixes two FTBFS
and one correctness bug: #590263, #590264, and #590245, respectively.

In fact due to the bugs mentioned above, mupdf is not in testing
yet. Would it be acceptable to add new packages to testing like this? If
not, should I update the package in unstable and wait until squeeze
is released? (hopefully it wouldn't take too long :)

Although the upload closes #593799 it has a new upstream
version and some major changes, so I'm a little bit hesitant in
unblock this without a second opinion.

Upstream site http://blog.jwchat.org/download/ says the
1.3.2 happened back in 2008, the Package QA shows the package is
untouched since end 2008.

 * Is it really better to have a new upstream without any
tests at this point? Or, can you elaborate a little bit of why
it would be important to have a new untested upstream version
   at this point?

 * Can you provide a backport to 1.3.1 that would fix the non-free
   bug?

Hi Ola,

I have corrected a release critical bug (#594783) in vzctl and
would like you to allow this change into squeeze.

In your diff you added this:

+### BEGIN INIT INFO
+# Provides: vzquota
+# Required-Start: $all
+# Required-Stop: $all
+# Default-Start: 2 3 4 5
+# Default-Stop: 0 1 6

+# Description: This command is used to configure and see disk quota statistics
for Containers.
+### END INIT INFO

According to this page http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts
you shouldn't (or couldn't) use $all for the stop sequence.
Not sure if this is up-to-date and the best reference, but it
seems to be accurate, can you comment on this? It also seems
that $all is only known by insserv.

There are no problems in unblock your package, but I would like
to confirm your changes before allowing it to enter testing. :)

The update is really about changing a lot of PNG files. The

wasn't absolutely necessary for Squeeze, but it doesn't seem to

Unless you have a stronger reason to unfreeze mupdf, I'm sorry
