Yes, please excuse the confusion and allow me to explain. For some as yet still unclear reason, several bug fixes to the maxima package were lost on each upstream upgrade starting from 5.20.1. (e.g. 5.21.0, 5.21.1, 5.22.0, 5.22.1). The issue seems to be with uupdate, as I've relied for many years on the procedure 'uscan --verbose' to upgrade my packages to follow upstream. This script is failing now to propagate the previous changes, and I have not had time to figure out exactly why. Each of the issues you mention above (save the tk dependency version change), together with the fix to the bug explicitly referred to in this thread, were fixed in previous maxima releases that propagated into testing, and were erroneously reverted on upstream upgrade in this manner. This is the meaning behind 'related items'. The files listed in your last point are build generated/modified files erroneously included in the source diff. All of these 'were not intended to be shipped'. This was a fix erroneously reverted. The replacement of the gv dependency with mime-support and postscript viewer was a fix to an explicit bug which had been erroneously reverted. I did tighten the relationship a little by moving this dependency away from maxima and to the sub-packages explicitly requiring this functionality. maxima suggests maxima-emacs was a bug fix erroneously reverted. quilt was an improvement erroneously reverted. If you want, I can send you the bug numbers, and/or re-weaken the package by reintroducing any of the now fixed bugs in a new upload. hppa and squeeze
Hi, As mentioned in the minutes of our recent IRC meeting[1] we have reached the conclusion that hppa will not be a release architecture for the Squeeze release. Within the next few days, we'll be taking the next step in this process, and instructing the testing migration scripts to ignore hppa for all practical purposes; this means that hppa will still be in testing but unblocked packages may migrate from unstable to testing even if they have not been successfully built on hppa or if they introduce new installability problems on hppa. We won't be removing the architecture from testing for a while yet, to give you a chance to decide whether you'd like to try and produce an hppa/squeeze release and, if so, how you'd like to do that (e.g. by talking to debian-ports or ftp-master). The debdiff is rather large but upstream is very sane when it comes with release management and there are no new features, only bugfixes and documentation/translation updates. Upstream release policy if you want to learn more: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.2/internals/release-process/ The debdiff on the binary package shows removed files and also changed dependencies, this is because the previous version was built with multiple python installed and some files ended up on version-specific path when there was no good reason for this (I'll file a bug on debhelper for this). [britney] RFC: Behaviour change for approve hints
[ Short version for the impatient - I'd like to make britney require all architectures to be built in t-p-u before paying any attention to an approve hint ] Hi, For as long as I can remember, the advice for adding approve hints to migrate packages from t-p-u to testing has been make sure the t-p-u package has built on all architectures first, otherwise the remaining architectures won't get built. This was predicated on the assumption that the source version would be removed from t-p-u either automatically or semi-automatically once it had migrated to testing; so far as I can see, this is not currently the case and I'm told that with the current buildd trigger code the missing architectures should continue to be built so long as the source remains in t-p-u. However, adding an approve hint before all the architectures are available still seems to have some issues. As a test, I took a set of britney data from a couple of days ago, before gnucash/tpu migrated, and added the new source to the testing Sources file; a britney run using that data failed to migrate any of the binary packages, claiming that they would all become uninstallable (for reasons I haven't spent too long investigating, possibly related to gnucash's dependency on arch:all gnucash-common). As a consequence of all of the above, I'd like to propose modifying the semantics of approve so that the hint can be added straight away and the t-p-u package only becomes a valid candidate once it's available on all the architectures on which it exists in testing; the attached patch does so. Bug#597370: unblock: xorg/1:7.5+7
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock The main reason for this request is #567909, the rest is mostly cosmetic. +xorg (1:7.5+7) unstable; urgency=low + + [ Julien Cristau ] + * Nuke x11-common's Conflicts.
