[SRM] kvirc 4:4.0.4-1 for stable-proposed-updates [2nd attempt]
[Please keep Raúl, Mark and myself CCed on all replies] Dear Stable Release Managers, I'm a co-maintainer of KVIrc and upstream has just released a bugfix release for their stable branch (4.0). Debian Stable has 4.0.2 but 4.0.4 fixes some serious problems: CRASH r4795 fix for a crash when opening join channels widget CRASH #878 Crash by fuzzing CRASH #879 Another crash through fuzzing REGR #1010 Channellist Background problem with Gnome CRASH r5289 fix for a crash in /exec (related to #0164) REGR #1068 Perl was updated to 5.12.2 +latest Kvirc (SVN) CRASH #1093 crash on /list CRASH r5476 fix for a crash in regchan.showlist() CRASH #1098 Crash while pasting new topic over old topic in topic bar REGR r5576 backported relevant patches to fix addon installation and several translation updates. No other changes (except a few updated meta files, like the splash screen, some Windows/Mac-OS-X-only stuff which isn't affecting us but I didn't feel would warrant a repacking and some formatting changes) where made, as the debdiff at [0] shows (I've sent this e-mail earlier already with the debdiff attached, but that hit the size limit of the limit, as the debdiff is rather large due to the translation updates). Would it be ok, to upload KVIrc 4.0.4 to stable-proposed-updates? Thank you in advance for your reply, kind regards, Kai Wasserbäch P.S.: Raúl bid me to point you to [1], where I wrote about these changes and most of the bugs listed above are linked to. P.P.S.: Raúl and I have been testing 4.0.4 for some time now (since RC1) and didn't find any regression so far. Bug#611185: unblock: kingston-update-notifier/1.2+nmu1
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock Dear Release Team, with the consent of Sune [0] I just uploaded a new version of kingston-update-notifier to unstable (which was accepted [1]). The upload closes three bugs and consists mainly of an added translation (German) to Kingston. Furthermore a Recommends was added and a minor change to the code base happened (addition of a Reboot button). Because of the translation and the usefulness of the other (minor) changes, I'd like to request an unblocking of Kingston, so it can enter testing (Squeeze). If you prefer this to go through s-p-u, let me know and close this bug. Kind regards, Kai Wasserbäch P.S.: I'm CCing Sune, to keep him in the loop. So far as I can see, other than the translation, the two bugs fixed have severities wishlist and important; is that correct? If so, then I'm afraid it's too late to get them in to squeeze. Yes, apart from the translations we have wishlist and an important bug, but as the changes made for them are really minor, I hoped they could tag along with the translation. Both non-translation bug fixes would improve the usefulness greatly. I'm also slightly confused (and possibly missing something) as to how the Recommends on anacron ensures that updates are checked for, as the package does not seem to ship any cron fragments. Anacron ensures, that the apt cronjob, which updates the package lists, is run, even if the system is not up 24/7. The Recommends: anacron approach was also taken by update-notifier, which's lead I was following here. Bug#588089: aptitude: SIGABRT when typing ~ in search box – RC?
[CCing the bug report, so the maintainer gets another ping about this.] Dear members of the Release Team, bug #588089 is a longstanding bug in aptitude, which can lead to unexpected behaviour for many users, the workaround fix would be trivial: add apt-xapian-index for the time being (that is until the fall-back code is part of aptitude becomes part of a (stable) aptitude release) to aptitude's Depends. (N.B. I was only able to reproduce this bug in the ncurses interface and not when I was searching from the CLI like `aptitude search ~i yawp`.) Can you consider to make this a blocker bug for Squeeze? If you decide for that I'd be happy – unless Daniel as the maintainer steps up first – to prepare this trivial fix as a NMU. Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to say they wouldn't be ok, just that without a description of what they were supposed to fix I didn't know whether they would be acceptable or not. Anyway, if you'd like to upload with just the copyright fix, then go ahead. Ah, ok. Then I try to explain the other changes, because it would be much easier for me to just have the latest upstream version in Squeeze. ;) First of all: the remaining changes are very minor wrt their impact on how stable yaWP is. Most of them are replacing (KDE_VERSION_MINOR == 3 KDE_VERSION_RELEASE = 70) || KDE_VERSION_MINOR == 4 with the macro provided by KDE (KDE_IS_VERSION(4,3,70)) in #if…#else…#endif parts of the code. And nothing (from the code path chosen) will change for Debian. Then there is one bug fixed, which is present in the current Debian version: the determination of when sunrise/-set will occur wasn't working all the time as expected. The remaining changes only affect builds against a KDE = 4.5.{0,2}, which isn't in Squeeze (4.4.3). Sorry: should have been KDE 4.4.5. So I'd say the risk for Debian would be minimal. But in case KDE 4.5 will enter Debian Squeeze at a later point (e.g. point-release), then yaWP would be ready already. Freeze exception for yaWP 0.3.5?
[Please CC me on all replies, I'm not subscribed to debian-release.] Dear Members of the Release Team, the upstream for plasma-widget-yawp released a new version (0.3.5), with the major change being (see [0] for a diff between 0.3.4 and 0.3.5) the adding of the copyright of Shawn Starr. One of the previous maintainers has based his Ions on the work of Shawn but somewhere along the editing the copyright notice was lost. The neglect to mention Shawn's copyright might (!!!, I'm no lawyer, just guessing here and hoping for your input based on your extended experience) make yaWP undistributable in the form as it is currently in Debian. Therefore I'd like to know, if the thought of a Freeze Exception would be entertained by the Release Team? Thank you in advance for your time and effort!
