The fact that there is other stuff is what makes this a non-candidate for
etch.  Sorry, this is not the time in the release cycle to be
adding/re-enabling features like smb support, whether or not they appear to
be innocent.

If you have time to prepare an upload for testing-proposed-updates including
only the changes that fit the freeze policy, I'll happily accept that. 
Otherwise, the security fix will need to go through the security team.
